So now Patriots will only beat them by 10 in the playoffs? ;)

Hehe. I remember when Freeney was such a force, and the Pats just moved rookie TE Daniel Graham over to his side. Freeney did nothing the rest of that game. "In Bill We Trust"!

Anyone know the details of the contract (how much total? signing bonus?)

5 year, 30 million is what I've heard. I haven't heard anything about bonus total though.

I heard it was a $13m bonus in the $30m deal.

You're right.
30 million total (which is what I assume you meant- lol), and 13 million in bonus.

He's a pretty good player.
But when his fat ass is running off the field every 5 plays because he needs a break, you're going to want some of that money back

So it sounds like this deal basically broke down to $5M upfront bonus and a minsal in year 1 and then an $8M roster bonus for 2006 with the other $16M spread out over the last 4 years (likely backloaded). Seems like a very good contract for the Colts as they essentially get him for one year at $5M with a cap hit of something like $1.5M. Next year they can cut him if it doesn't work out (and eat only $1M and then $3M cap hit over the next two seasons) or essentially "give" him a four year deal with a $8M bonus or reneg the deal if he falls somewhere in between.
From Simon's point of view it doesn't seem much better than what the Eagles were offering with the franchise tag. He still only gets a little over $5M and one year guaranteed and he loses the ability to negotiate anything better next year if he has a good season.
As a Colt's fan I don't have much experience with good FA deals, but it seems like the Colts finally figured out this FA thing and made a great low risk, high potential deal here.

From what I've read Simon just wanted a long term deal, which the eagles wouldn't give

So how long until the Colts collapse beneath the weight of Manning and Harrison's contract(and possibly James, but I son't see that)? :D. They better get it done this year.
