How come you only ever hear about the defense getting tired?

IE: The Defense has been on the field all day today, it looks like they are getting tired out there.

And you never hear the same thing about the offense?

Does the defense have to work harder during a game? Or is it some other reason?

Hey. Let's not forget Donovan McNabb in the Super Bowl. :D

I've often wondered the same thing. I believe it can be attributed to the idea that the offense doesn't work as hard since they know coming out of the huddle what the play will/should be. The defense, by this principle, has to work harder because it has to be ready for anything.

In all honesty, I believe this to the extent of linebackers and defensive linemen.

because defensive players are pussies who like to blame the offense for losses.

Actually it relates to the fact that once the ball is snapped ONLY the main blockers and the ball carrier have to really push hard, and generally only the ball carrier on most plays, as opposed to the fact that the entire defense has to keep running until said ball carrier is tackled, it leads to a much higher fatigue level on defense when they are on the field for long periods of time.

Worst thing for any defense is the 15 play 9 minute drive that goes 90 yards. It simply tears their hearts out.

That's what I was trying to say. Good job, RendeR.

During the Sunday night game, Sterling Sharpe mentioned that the offensive lineman held because the drive was long and he was tired. He said that if a drive was long the lineman would get tired and use his hands/arms more and hold than move his feet and get in a better blocking position.
