The owner of the site is taking it down, so someone will need to grab the files and take over disbursement duties if we want this to continue. Sorry I couldn't go another year.

You got any idea how much bandwidth your site used in a month?

Also, what's the ETA for everything going down? Can I grab everything from the site later tonight instead of *right* now?

I could put it up, but there won't be a whole lot of bandwidth/speed coming from my site.

I hope that someone can take this on, just in case I d/l all the draft files I think I'm gonna start up a career in 1970 and see how she goes.

Not sure where things are at but i would be willing to help defray the cost of the hosting. Anybody have any updates.

Thul and I have the files backed up, as we need those for the HFL league.

I can give it a home, but if we want to keep a message board on there, I'll need someone to step up and volunteer to be the moderator/admin.

Question revisited:

What is the best way to start a historical career? To my understanding, having completed 1 career before (from 70-about 2040), the teams that didn't exist in 1970 get a whole bunch of scrubs for player. ratings around 20 or so.

Would a dispersal draft or all out draft be better? What works for eveybody here that has played 1 or more long careers with the historical files.

I don't think the board was used a whole heck of alot, so maybe there just needs to be an email address or a link to this board to deal with any questions.

First of all, I want to say thanks to all the guys who put their efforts on these files. They're great!!! Fantastic job.

I have a (cosmetic) question: is it normal that every player, starting in 1970, is born "Outside of The United States"? Am I forgetting something? I mean, it's not that important, but I wanted to know if there was some fix to this...
I want some kind of new challenge to play FOF again, and this is perfect.

It can be edited, yes. Either by editing a csv file with the 1970 data, or by editing the data file itself in the faf_editor v1.4. Instead of a "0", which is translated to "outside the US", you can enter any random number between 1 and maybe 15000, I don't remember. Of course, this will be grossly inaccurate but in most ways there's no way of knowing where the player came from (without a lot of research)

Oh, and what about those players on certain teams that are born in 1980...playing in 1970? That was one thing that always frustrated me.

Ok...sorry to bring this up from the bottom somewhere...but...where is the historical project file's new home? I need a fix and I've lost ALL my previous work.

Don't you just love having to start from scratch!

You have to scroll down and select 'free'. Then you'll have to wait for about 20 seconds before you can start your download.

Got the email with the files, thanks 3ric.

I have uploaded them and just wrote a basic html page for them, tomorrow will make it prettier (it's 1 am here) and will add also all the fof graphs i have from different authors, like scoreboards, logos, etc.

It's one of my bussines servers so don't worry about them being deleted, i'll keep them online and will add all the new ones as long as my bussines is running, that will be hopefully for 10 years more. The 40's is a good age to retire :D

I would like to write in that page who are the authors and the notes/instructions that they wrote if any, so please post here if you know that info.

Of course Skydog can link to it in the reference thread if he wants.

I think 3ric did the 71 draft, I did most of the ones between 72 and 90 plus a few at the end maybe 03-05? Then Dfast did the rest. Then for the roster files, someone originally did the 1970 file but it was edited a few times so I don't know who did the final version. The 2004 one might be my file. Probably best just to reference the three of us 3ric, Dfast and myself as the creators for the draft files.

I did an edit of uglytyco's(I think that was the right person)...it was posted on the old website...any chance anyone still has that one? I used thrym over there too I believe.

It might be moot though, I think that was for FOF4...will it even work with FOF2k4? I seem to remember it wouldn't.

I'm pretty sure the 1970 file posted at Icy's is your edited file, Thrym. I converted it from FOF4 to FOF2k4 though.

Whew! Glad to see the historical draft files got saved. I still need to continue my Buccaneers dynasty and get back to the form that let me make the playoffs in my fluke season. :D

Again, thanks! I have another question...

I am using the 1.4 version editor to look at the draft files...the 1971 file opens but gets a runtime error 9 and crashes out when I say ok...some kind of overrun error.

The 1972 is fine, as well as all the others I tried to open but the 1971 is not. Anyone know is it will be ok to use(just can't edit it) or what?

Thanks again to everyone!

I get that error myself, it's strange as I edited it before we used it in the HFL, with no problem... I have the previous version as well, and that one opens without error in the 1.4 version of the editor.

yeah, I found the same version I think from a linked site in this thread...a zip file of ALL this bunch of stuff(thank you to whomever it was that posted that link) and it opens just fine too...

Over the next few weeks I will be going over these files with a fine-tooth comb...the 1970 players file(mostly getting the correct home city and some other naggin things in there) and making sure that all the right folks are in the draft files.

When I'm done, I'll let you know if you're interested in seeing this work :)

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

This file crashed when I tried to import it into my SP league, but the original version didn't. Unfortuantely, I know that there were a number of name fixes in the new file. Is there something that can be done to fix this file, or is it something I'm doing incorrectly?

thrym

Well, I've compiled the 1970 file again for 2k4...fixed the top 100 HoF point players birth date/place as well as all players with 7-8-9 over all.

Some players I could only find their birth year but if I could find anything else, I added it.

Going to test this out a little and see how it runs through a season or six...

I think Nettles, a safety is in there twice. I'm not sure what build of the file that was in though.
