Just purchased an iPaq Pocket PC...

Just wondering what is needed to play audio files (MP3), Video, and if there are some killer games/apps out there that anyone would suggest.

Thanks,

If it has the pocket version of windows 2003 or the new 2005 it should have media player installed.

If not, there are several media players available for free like GSPlayer and PocketMusic.

Apps I love:

Pocket Informant (personal info manager)
iLauncher
Pocket Stars (Astronomy)
CodeStore (store passwords and stuff)

Games:

Blitzkrieg: War in Europe 1939-1945 (WWII strategy game by Playtek)
Arvale II (RPG)
Hot Death Uno (Cards)
Legacy (RPG)

hxxp://pocketpcfreewares.com has lots of decent freeware but the good stuff is going to cost ya.

Alright, thank you for that...This has 2002 PocketPC OS on it, so I am wondering if thats my main issue, but I am unable to connect to my wireless router here at home, and it is set for "mixed" mode to allow for the b/g on the wireless.

DOLA,

Games, I recommend anything by the folks at PDAMill: http://www.pdamill.com

Personally my faves from them are Snails and the Arvale games (Arvale and Arvale II), but I've got all their games and they're all very well done.

You might also want to check out Astraware's website, http://www.astraware.com

They have a wealth of games you'll probably recognize.

Forgot all about Snails, great game. More games...

Shadowgate is another RPG you can find more @ http://www.portable-games.com/
ARGENTUM: This is war is an incredible RTS title. (Available on Pocketgear.com)
Fade (adventure game)
SCUMMVM emulator so you can play old lucas sytle adventure classics and you can download the freeware version of Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen ! (http://www.scummvm.org/)
SimCity2000
Speedball 2 by the Bitmap Brothers
Strategic Assault is another RTS game.

More apps...

I use ministumbler to find open wifi spots.
ConverterCE is a freeware conversion util that will convert things for you. Xconverter Pro costs money and does the same thing. (Temp, Speed, Length, Volume, etc.)
MySport training to keep track of my diet and training routine.
and I can't live without Total Commander CE! It's a file explorer replacement that rocks... also free.

The only problem you might run into is you are running an older OS. What type of software are you interested in?

There are some cracking pocket PC games out there ... personally though I'd suggest getting a PSP unless you really need the office orientated stuff ...

Hot Death Uno (Cards)

Wow, this game is awesome. My fiancee and I love Uno, and now are hopelessly addicted to this game. Nice find.

You guys are all hitting the nail on the head with what you are suggesting as far as games and apps go.

The MySport software is looking slick and is certainly up there.

Can I upgrade my OS and such on the iPAQ? It's the HP 5450, one thing I am noticing is that the wireless connection is a little touchy.

Your ipaq should be upgradable to PPC2003.

If you are in need of GPS capabilites, I recommend the Destinator package. Since the 5450 has on-board bluetooth, you can pick up one of the bluetooth GPS receivers and eliminate the cord clutter.
