They keep playing it here in Colorado, I am amazed this man still has a job today. Becuase It is hillarius. It looks like they have given this job to a senior citizen that hates Baseball.
Leyland says over and over again in his interview that he doesn't know who is on the roster, doesn't know anything about the team, and has no idea where team stands.
This was his first interview since he became Manager of Detroit and looks like the only thing he knows is where he can cash his next pay check. I would of loved if someone would of asked him Why he would take a job that he knows nothing about? Hell, from the way he looked and sounded yesterday I wonder if he knows it is for a baseball team located in Detroit?
After that interview they may want to show this guy the door. Unless you truly want a Manager that just doesn't care about your team.

Here's whats going on and nobody is hitting it. Dave Dombrowski has the heat on him after 5yrs. The Tiger's farm system was the worst in baseball when he took over, yet after 3 managers and 5yrs folks don't want anymore excuses. So DD is doing what most in his situation would do...going with a trusted ally and proven commodity in Jim Leyland. Many think this will make or break DD, not sure but JL is proven unlike Trammell learning on the job and still not getting it right.

It sounds like Leyland and I are of one mind when it comes to Baseball. While I agree with him overall, I do not think this quality is one I would look for in a manager of my baseball team.
Dombrowski's job is on the line with this hire. I doubt he would hire a complete idiot. That said, I think Leyland might quit his third job if the Tigers have a abysmal first couple months.

But, would he hire a Manager that has determined that this time he just won't care? He will not learn the player's names on his team, because as soon as he does the
Owner will trade that player away for a dozen bats and a sack full of money.
I am a huge Jim Leyland fan from back in his days in Pittsburgh, "All I need is a pack of amokes in my front pocket and $20 dollars in my back pocket and I am happy", but I believe after giving his all to 3 teams before only to watch his favorite players get sold by their owners, he is just going to not give a crap and cash his weekly paycheck.
Really hurts to see a great guy like Jim Leyland get run over by the machine that is MLB financing.

At first I was hoping that the Pirates would bring Leyland back, but it looks like the Bucs are better off without him. I wish him the best in Detroit, but I can't help but wonder what he's thinking if he wants Lloyd McClendon to be his bullpen coach. That's just crazy, man.

Yeah, thats a step in the right direction in the coaching career.... from MLB manager to bullpen coach. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

The signing of Lloyd McClendon as the Tigers' bullpen coach will send shockwaves through the baseball world. Perhaps he can sign Terry Muholland as pitching coach and Operation Shutdown to be hitting coach.

I think I'd really rather see Derek Bell as some sort of fashion consultant for the team. The could also bring in Al Martin to organize the wive's clubs...

Leyland has probably been so busy scouting the NL for the Cards that he really hasn't had time to breakdown the Tigers roster, I wouldn't read that much into the interview.

Let's complete some sort of collection of has-beens and never-wases here and hire Lou Piniella to ruin the minor league system. I mean run the minor league system.

I think Dave Dombrowski has earned himself one more year and Lloyd McClendon is a helluva bullpen coach. How things have changed in one year.:D
