I was here on the first day FOFC was created (that was 5 years ago, in October 2000, when we received an email telling us the move from the Sideline to this place had been officialized and we were invited to set up our new accounts here...)

5 years...that have passed so quickly.

Just a couple of weeks before the move, I was very, very pissed at Blackie, because he had been telling us that a "big announcement" was forthcoming, and many were hoping that it was the next Solecismic game. When it became apparent that it was "just" a move to a new server, I was among the leaders of the torch 'n' pitchfork crowd heading to Blackie's lair. :p However, due to both of us being banned from The Sideline near the end of that whole debacle, we were able to find common ground and move forward.

1. You mentioned that there was a big announcement coming up.
2. Many of us speculated that it had to do with a game by Solecismic.
3. Jim G. posted that he had no idea what the big announcement was.
4. I, among others, posted that if the announcement was merely some site redesign or something, you shouldn't have led us on like that. (The pitchforks and torches began to be distributed at this point, I think.)
5. You then posted to clarify that it didn't have anything to do wtih a Solecismic game.
6. Shortly thereafter, you got banned.
7. Some time within 0-72 hours of you getting banned, I got banned for sticking up for you.

Well, I did need everyone to pay attention and check the site, because we had to move quickly. Which we did, so it was all good.

I wonder what ever happened to Tony. As I said, they threatened to sue me and I had to threaten to countersue (for using my material on their site without permission or payment) to get it resolved.

They were trying to make a claim that I hacked their old site. I took down parts of it when we moved (content that I had created for free) and they said that I had defaced the old site by removing content.

Basically, they were going to lose money from the ads because we had a ton of hits and were pissed off.

I ended up having to get my attorney to speak to theirs before it all died down. My attorney said that if they wanted to claim that the content I created was theirs and also try to sue me for removing that content, then my counterclaim would be that they had failed to pay me for that content and to sue them for back compensation. It was absurd and it cost me a bit of cash. I was told not to talk about it by my attorney, but I'm sure it doesn't matter now.

Those were certainly exciting times. I remember waiting a bit (day? couple days?) before re-registering at the new site, just watching to see if things would come back from the dead. They seem to have. :)

I remember the old board. I didn't read the forums much at all, all I did was play FOF and post random dynasties in the forums, mostly baseball ones because the Mogul ones (which is what I played at the time) weren't nearly as active.

I didn't realize that was 5 years already though. Wow.

I swear I cannot realize it's already been so many years...it's funny because, altough for the most part we haven't "seen" each other in persons, we know each other for a long time now...I don't know if that's the case on most other boards but seing the same old names here, time after time, is really something I'm grateful of...

The Sideline was the first message forum I ever posted in. But I have forgotten so much about that place. I remember arguing about Napster a lot. I remember I didn't like Blackadar back then, either but I can't remember why I did or why I would remember that. I barely remember STIX, but I think there was a picture of him that was pretty goofy. I remember being pissed because FOF2k1 wouldn't run on my Voodoo5 graphics card! It kept freezing up and every since then I have been a staunch opponent of the "fancy graphics" in text sims...just in case. I have upgraded my card, btw.

What's fun about this place, once I started posting in the main forums and not in the dynasty ones as much, is the fact that I don't really watch a lot of TV or get into pop culture too much. But I can keep up with pretty much everything, just by reading here. So it always made my ex mad whenever she'd talk about one of the dumb shows she liked, that I knew about it, after reading here. Or knew about something like, NASCAR better than she does, even though I don't really watch that stuff that much.

So, it serves it purpose. Plus, you get a fairly good mix of viewpoints and opinions and that always makes it interesting.

I recall though that while it was good to get away from GA, we went into a bad forum (software-wise). Took us a while to finally stabilize. The young whippersnappers of today take way too many things for granted. ;)
