In our neverending quest to increase blood pressure and die sooner, we have bought a deep fryer. We made French Fries last weekend and plan to make some funnel cakes this weekend. Does anyone have any good recipes for deep frying?

You could fry a piece of poop and it would taste good. :)

Thanks! Found a recipe for Australian Deep Fried Chicken Wings. I'm also looking for the recipe for the Cheeburger Cheeburger Onion Rings. They're delicious.

Here's one thing we learned when deep frying anything - use PANKO (japanese bread crumbs). Everything comes out extra crunchy and flaky - the stuff is delicious. Sometimes it's hard to find, however - check the Asian section of your supermarket.

My wife and I tried using panko in our recipes this year and we will never go back to the old school crap we used to use.

Wonton Wrappers work well deep fried.

Last weekend I made some cream cheese filling. It had creme cheese and picante sauce in it. Was pretty good.

I have also made breakfast eggrolls. Sausage, egg, cheese rolled up and deep fried. Cook the eggs and sausage first though.

You could also make fruit pies the same way. Get some cherry and or apple pie filling, and fry those puppies up.

Oh yeah one other thing you can try. Get some flour tortillas, cut them up in the strips and fry them. Those go great with tortilla soup. Or you can sprinkle cinnamin and brown sugar on them for a tasty snack.

Try using tempura batter for shrimp or veggies.

I use a good dark beer, flour, garlic salt, and paprika for a good shrimp or onion ring batter. Also good for white fish.

Just crack an egg and throw it straight in. My dad does that and he's not dead yet.

If you cook fried food right, its not that bad for you, and retains very little of the oil you fried it in...

What's a good oil to use in deep frying? I've heard peanut oil is good and lasts a long time.

Depends on what you want to fry. I wouldn,t reccomend peanut oil for everyday frying as it does impart flavor into your food. Not a bad thing though if that is your goal, but if your making funnel cakes, you might not want them to be peanutty.

I personally fry with canola oil. From what I have heard, its a better oil than vegetable.

How often you change the oil depends on what you fry. Some foods will leave flavor in the oil which can be picked up by later frying. I know that you should change your oil after frying fish, and i am sure there are a few others.

When you do change you oil, save a bit of the old oil, and add it to the new oil. It helps the new oil fry better.

Make tempura and buffalo wings.
Buffalo wings are best done in a deep fryer.
