I looked through the demo of TEW, and can't really get into it without seeing real wrestlers, networks, etc...

Does anyone know if there are patches that can change this?

There aren't any finished mods available yet. The RaveX Real World mod should be out soon.

That's a link to the GDS TEW 2005 mod forum. You can find the RaveX pre release thread there.

I am waiting for the '84 mod myself.

Can't wait for the "Death of Territories" mod myself. As it is, me and my brother-in-law are adding in two local feds to the "Cornellverse" in the New England region so we can play an email game and see who can be the the first to bring our respective fed to the big time while competing over talent. Should be a blast.

Even more interesting is he'll probably start with a "Hardcore" fed, with me leaning towards going "Traditional". (although I was considering going Lucha-Traditional or Lucha-Extreme but wasn't sure I could pull them off in New England.) Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Some of the in-character smack talk we've been throwing at eachother on the family forums has other family members thinking we've finally snapped and gone insane.

Family forums? I've never heard of that before?

And it looks like I'm not the only one waiting for the RaveX mod. :)

Family forums? I've never heard of that before?

Its what happens when you come from a large and computer literate family that likes to stay in touch. We actually have a whole php-nuke portal setup. :)

While I'll probably grab the RaveX mod, I'm not really *that* interested in the current state of wrestling.

Wasn't there a mod out somewhere that recreated the WWF vs WCW vs ECW wars when WCW was on top for those 80+ weeks?

The cornellverse is great if you can give it a chance. I never played it in TEW 2004, didn't buy the RP game he made b/c it never really got a real world update.....but I have given it a chance in this game and I must say I'm hooked. If you are having trouble getting into it I reccomend North of the Border Pro Wrestling. So much talent and story(hell, just one look at the guys and the roster and you can imagine it all in your head.)

It is ran by the stone family, which just looking at them appears to be based on the Hart Family. Dan Stone is Stu, Dan Jr. appears to be Owen, Jeremy appears to be Bret, I'm not sure on Duane, and Edd is Teddy Heart. Throw in Dark Angel who reminds me a bit of Sting with some Great Muta thrown in and Sean McFly, who is the best pure wrestler on the entire game and there is a roster there to be tapped. And you won't lose any of the guys that count to bigger feds, as they are all family and under lifetime contracts.

R.K. Hayes reminds me of Ron Simmons, Mammoth=One Man Gang, just a great roster.

Taking them will allow you to slowly get used to the world, hell just 2 weeks in and I feel completely comfortable with it. Almost like its as real as the real world update. Kinda weird.

And when you start looking @ it more in-depth when you get used to it, you get depth in the US as well. TCW is kinda like WCW in that they stole the talent(Sam Strong, etc.) of the SWF and started out and are the undisputed #2 in the US. SWF is a combo of WCW and WWF. They are the #1 company, that raided the territories in the 80's, built Sam Strong(think Hulk Hogan), but are now in a situation where politics have hurt them. All their main eventers are old, beat up, and nearing retirement age. The only new stars they have build aren't talented at all(think a combination of Goldberg and Batista).

DAVE is the ECW of North America, trying to tackle the big 2, but constantly losing talent to them and have a serious lack of money.

Then you get Japan, which I am just starting to get used to, but from what I've read and seen has serious depth as well.

I'm going to give the demo a try today. It looks like good stuff, and I'm not even into wrestling.

I'm going to give the demo a try today. It looks like good stuff, and I'm not even into wrestling. I'm not into wrestling either but I'm having an ok time with it. Probably will like it more when the '84 (Death of the Territories) Mod is done since I was into wrestling in the 80's and early 90's. Getting to rewrite history has some appeal.

It's an ok game. Not that great, IMO, but considnering I have no interest in wrestling anymore and the fact that I do play it for a good hour or so most days since it came out says something. Makes the days go a bit faster in my wait for The Movies and Civ IV. :)

I was a little bit into wrestling in the 80's, although I don't really remember any of the wrestlers well enough for their names to mean anything to me now. I don't know how wrestling promotion works at all these days, so a fictional career might have some appeal to me. I might enjoy just seeing what hapens if I try different things out.

I think your second paragraph does say a lot, and that's making me more excited about trying the game out. These days, I love games that I can play for an hour or so and then move on to something else. This game will probably be another good one for that, along with FOF and Space Rangers 2.

Now how could you talk about the US in the cornellverse and not mention the AAA fed?

Time to rebuild and relive the glory that was G.L.O.W! ;)

Me too. I also had a "run" as a wrestling fan in 2001/2002, didn't follow it since then. Meanwhile, here in Italy the thing literally exploded. All of a sudden, all the kids want to be John Cena...
Anyway, I think I'm gonna try this game as well. Last one I tried was Extreme Warfare I think, which was free if I remember correctly. I also have Wrestling Spirit, but that's a different type of game.

First off, I didn't download the demo for TEW last night. I was doing other things instead. I might get to it tonight. Anyway, I tried the last free version that Adam Ryland did, and although I liked the concept, the game just ran way too slowly for me. One of the improvements in TEW2005 seems to be a speed increase, so that's a plus. I like Wrestling Spirit a lot, even though I never got very immersed in it. I never really paid attention to any of the stats or abilities of the other wrestlers, and I just focused on my own guy. That probably hurt my results. I understand that I'll need to pay a lot more attention to the "talent" in TEW, and I'll use the demo to see if I'm really up for it.
