who knows, HA did pose as coolroy in an attempt to get back in the league (coolroy did fill in for another owner or two)
and your commish, as well as your league presidents, were well aware of me.
and i was never outed, rather, i came out and revealed who i was when i decided that i didn't want to go back to IHOF afterall. as coolroy i was responsible for designing your IHOF monthly magazine covers and for creating some widely acclaimed images, i contributed more in my short time as coolroy than many in that league. stop making this into into me being evil or deceitful - i told my plan to the commish that once i was in line to get a team i would have revealed myself. i wanted people to treat me differently than they do someone named Hell Atlantic. that was all.
and i was going for that WWF routine that the Sports Guy always goes for, when JR goes "wait...that's Hell Atlantic's music.....oh my God! nooooooo!!!", lol. woulda made for some great entertainment. :)

regarding my leaving - IHOF is a very nice league, elite, even, but they take it personally when you leave, almost as if you're foolish for wanting to leave *them*. i enjoyed many over there, but it became impossible for me to be myself and to enjoy myself due to my getting too passionate about my team and for getting a little too involved in bashing other people's team. kinda made me not liked by almost half the league. wasn't fun after a while. i left because it wasn't fun for me. that's all. i haven't been in the league since Feb or March of '05, and i hate having to constantly talk about it, by people who are happy i'm no longer in the league or whomever. i'm past IHOF, i wish them the best. i left of my own accord, John. i tried to leave even before that, behind the scenes without much fanfare, but the commish and even a league talked me out of it because they valued my contributions. as much as i chide cthomer from time to time, i like him, and i respected him asking me to come back when i left the first time. when i decided to leave the 2nd time i didn't look back.
i don't think you'll find anyone who'll say that i cheated or bended rules at IHOF. my thing over at IHOF, as many will say, was roleplaying, i treated the players as if they were players and not formula's (which they essentially are). in fact, many will say i was a big supporter of "gentleman's rules", where things regarding fair play and no cheating shouldn't have to be spelled out - they should already be assumed.
the fact that i was so vocal about fair play and wasn't ever called out at IHOF for any rule bending makes me even more furious. of course, since i don't have many friends over at IHOF i don't think they'll rush to my defense, they might get a kick out seeing me angered. but, it is what it is.
I agree with all of this basically. I don't ever recall any accusations of H.A. cheating, I thought he was a valuable member of the league (both for his photoshop/writing work and his "bad guy" element), and did help talk him back into the league when he first considered leaving. I could call him a lot of things, but cheater is not one of them.

I agree that HA’s response was/is a bit over the top. However, a banning or suspension here would not be just. I am fully aware of the history of HA. I think he was provoked and no one, not even Blackadar, has come up with any justification for the provoke. I also remember a recent thread where Blackadar said some pretty offensive comments about someone’s wife but was not punished for it.

I concur. Although I tired of him shooting his mouth off all the time (and that holds here at FOFC as well), and in the end felt the IHOF was a more enjoyable place with him gone, I personally never had a direct problem with him. He was a diehard with his team, and I think cheating was never even a consideration.

so you leave IHOF because you "can't be yourself" and then return as another person with a different persona? makes sense to me
i explained to your commish and league president at the time (albion) that i wanted people to not attack everything i wrote, for them to see i wasn't all about negativity. i decided IHOF needed a break from HA, that not everyone wants to hear how and why their team sucks, and decided that people getting used to me, albeit in another guise, would go far in showing them that i can "play nice with others". at the appropriate time i would have revealed myself, at which time i felt many who considered me a bad element to the league would say "hey, i dealt with him as coolroy, and he was a normal person who i had good relations with, i guess he isn't as bad an influence to the league as i originally pinned him". that was the plan, at least. but there was no cover up, everyone in a position of authority knew who i was, and probably a few others who had their suspicions. no malicious intention to deceive people.

I didn't get the impression that it was a rookie-contract you posted there. Obviously the guy has cheated beyond belief, my point was that that single contract wasn't obviously ridiculous (to me). There is a ton of bonus money there.
What I pointed out earlier is that I didn't think it was an unfair contract, just a stupid one. I also pointed out earlier that he shelled out over 120 million dollars in bonus money to 9 players alone. Cheating? No. Stupid? In my opionion, yes.

No real cheating as far as I'm aware. There were accusations of Blackie tanking to get the top pick. However, they were accusations.
HA left because he had become such a jerk that everyone ganged up on him whenever he posted. He got tired of being the punching bag, picked up his photoshop and went home.

In a complete threadjack, Ashley Olsen is in my brother's French class. Much more impressive than when I was in college--my only brush with a celebrity classmate was when I had a class with Tracee Ross, of "Girlfriends" fame. i just want to say, as i eat my lunch, that i feel very foolish for allowing myself to fall for the bait and got myself worked up in a tizzy. i don't apologize for anything i wrote, because what i wrote is a good snapshot as to how i felt in that point in time, i don't want to undermine the feelings of Hell Atlantic from 2 hours ago. but, yeah, i'm trying to show a different side to my personality and not be a cartoon or cariacature of the Hell Atlantic everyone thinks i am, and responding like that doesn't help things. i'm normally good at knowing when i'm being provoked.
what i wanted to do was nip things in the bud. if you let (blatantly false and malicious) accusations like that go uncontested, pretty soon myth becomes fact. then months from now when i find my trustworthiness being questioned, someone would eventually say "well, there *were* some things called into question about his days in IHOF...". i wanted to eradicate some silly doubts cast by some unscrupulous members here before they got seeped into people's minds. but i'm disappointed in allowing myself to get worked up - these are merely words, after all, and it's over an online MP league.
so, again, i don't apologize for what i said, but i feel bad if anyone got offended and i feel foolish for allowing myself to get worked up. carry on.

Aboslutely, yes. Logging on as the commish or another team for any reason whatsoever should be prohibited in my view.
Doing what you suggest is definitely cheating. You gain an advantage by seeing what the player looks like up close (on the team) and through the eyes of another team's scout.

However, given that Skydog has already given the order to go back to our respective corners, you'd probably be better served by not trying to bait me.
are you just going to repeat the same thing in each thread?
you are the one that caused this whole situation by being a bigot and a troll. you should be boxed immediately as far as I'm concerned to stop this whole nonsense.
I see your whole mission now is to simply try and divert attention from yourself.

elseIf (transaction_text = "signed a renegotiated contract")

Since we've just past the 10th anniversary of the OJ Simpson verdict, reading that thread immediately brought to mind the intelligent juror (Brenda Moron) who commented about the evidence of domestic abuse presented at the trial: "Domestic abuse, to me that was a waste of time. This was a murder trial, not domestic abuse. If you want to get tried for domestic abuse, go in another court room and get tried for that."

he'll need a new IP address, because I, like many others are going to put his IP in the ban list. it's hard to join a league when you're not able to access the site. But there are ways around that, tho hes not smart enough to figure them out.

I read those threads and do not understand all the talk about redoing the entire Free Agency stages.
I thought it was determined that the only thing you could do with this particular cheat was to get a rookie to sign another contract. I saw the Leonard Davis post, but I didn't think that had anything to do with this cheat.
Why would they be talking about wanting to resim their entire Free agency stages?

because by using the rookie signing cheat, he was able to free up money he shouldn't have had, and signed players in FA that (potentially) would have gone to other teams, had he not cheated.

sachmo what league are you in?
strictly minor leagues. bush league, even.
Related questions as i just too knowledge about anybody being able to open the league as commish or as any other team.
- Does it mean that for example Kansas owner can open the league as Miami, release all the players, export and upload the file? That is an extreme example that would be easily noticeable, but there are tons of minors things that could be done that way to your oponents.
- Also, if you open it as another team, can you see their gameplans for the past week?
- Can i open as any other team and watch all the roster throught the eyes of their scouts instead of mine?
I think the answer to all that questions is yes, and if so then we have a major problem that would make me reconsider if it worths to play in any online league, not only because GM's being able to cheat during contracts etc, but also because there is no point on having scouts or gameplanning thinking that nobody knows how do you play. I feel i have been playing blind until now.

Yes, yes, yes.
Dola, i have been confirmed about all that what is really sad. I doubt that a lot of GM's have done any major cheat with contracts etc, but i'm pretty sure that some have opened the file as other teams to watch their gameplans. I wonder now why all the stupid secretism about sharing gameplaning knowledge if everybody can open your file and watch your gameplans.
Sad day for me as FOF multiplayer, the true really hurts and i feel i have been a stupid blind until today thinking everybody was trying to guess the rivals gameplans when the true is that everybody could just watch them.

Playing multiplayer online games with strangers will ALWAYS have this problem. Doesn't matter if it is a football text sim, an RTS, or an FPS. There are a bunch of people out there that will do ANYTHING to win, and there are a bunch of people out there whose idea of fun is wrecking the game for other people.
If you don't want to deal with this, play with people you know and like. My office FOF league is going strong, and I doubt the IHOF will have issues like this. But if you're playing with random people you barely know, you'll deal with this in every game you play.
Unfortunately the cheaters / team-killers have the upper hand. It is impossible to stop them messing with stuff, ESPECIALLY on the PC because they have access to the client code. Sure, there are steps Jim could take to help raise the bar a bit, but even passwords can be cracked because the cracker has access to the algorithm to decrypt them (it's in the .exe he is running). Heck, the Xbox is a "closed" system and it has been hacked to death.
So your best bet is to play with people you know and trust.
I see your point gstelmack, but we are playing through internet, everybody is a stranger. We can know all the nicks, even some real names and have friends made at fofc or other boards, but to say that you really know that ppl...
About being always ways to crack a game, yes that is true, but it's not the same to use a password cracker, or to have programming knowledge to guess the encript code from a .exe than to just being able to open the league game as any team with a few clicks. As i said before, i doubt lots of ppl is really cheating with contracts but to watch the other team gameplans or throught their scouts eyes? well that is a minor cheat and i bet a lot justify it as just doing advanced scouting.
Today i have lost most of my interest on online leagues, it's like if suddenly you knew for sure that the game AI cheated you when playing solo, would you play that game ever again?
Also, why haven't this ever documented/discussed so all us would know about it? or i missed that threads or again the stupid competitive ppl didn't talk about that to use in their own profit as it's done with a lot of knowledge about fof2k4.

It has been mentioned and discussed quite a few times that I remember. I think the reason it isn't more often is twofold. One, most of us are resolved to the fact that we have to have some blind trust in MP leagues. And two, there's no need to give people that would do this kind of thing any more ideas.
As for gameplanning and stuff, if you tweak your gameplans at the last moment, it's essentially like real life. Real life teams know basically what their opponents are going to do, but there are always last minute adjustments and stuff. In NAFL, if you do your gameplanning off the interim file, no other team can see your "wrinkles" until after the game.
I understand your frustration, but I think you may be going overboard on how extensive the damage really is in things like this.

Theres another exploit that lets you renegotiate contracts that have already been signed. For example if you signed a player after the season starts, they only take one year deals, but the exploit lets you sign them to a multi-year contract.
Its quite easy to detect since the player will be listed as signing 2 contracts in the logs, but also quite easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Just another thing to keep an eye out for.

I think it is ridiculous how the media has hyped this issue up to epic proportions. It's now become this week's shark attacks. I don't think that a 5% chance of someone cheating 50 million FOF players in multiplayer is really that big of a deal

So should there be a "Blackballed list" posted in the FOFC MP directory including aliases and IP addresses of known offenders/cheaters?
I'll second that.
And just as an aside, this thread 's been a real eye opener. Call me naive or stupid, but I never even thought of opening a game as the commish or another team...
Oh, and some great discussion about elevators in there somewhere too...:D

It just sucks that this type of attention is the most attention our league has ever had.
I agree...thats why I am still asking if anyone wants to join! We don't put with any shit! lol...

I am pretty surprised as to how much exposure my post got, I thought maybe this was something that had been seen before which is why I posted about it, because I was baffled. Really opened some eyes all over.

Yeah, this thread and this situation have been a bit of a depressing eye opener (with regards to online league), as Triple-F said, as I have never considered this possibilty. And it kind of saddens me that someone would even consider doing it.
On the other hand, I honestly cannot say it's made any difference to me one way or the other. I don't know if it's arrogance, pride, naivete, stupidity or a combination of all but I don't feel like I have anything to worry about with regards to this with the CFL group of owners. And, based on what I know of them so far, as we go through more seasons together, we will be developing the same feeling for each other in the GEFL group. This is not meant as a knock on any other league or be boastful about the leagues I am participating in in any way, shape or form. I'm simply expressing my feeling for the people who are now feeling ambivalent about participating in an online league that, as you go through seasons and you get to "know" your fellow owners/GMs, you will (hopefully) develop similar feeling, vibe or trust in your fellow owners/GMs and be able to just enjoy the experience for what it is (getting my ass kicked yearly, oh JOY). The only person in the two leagues I know in person is SackAttack so it's not like I can claim to "know" any of these folks in person to be able to get a feel for who and how they are. But after posting with and reading posts by some of the other people on this board and being in a league with some of the people for a period of time, I feel like I can just enjoy myself in a league with them. And just not enjoy my team sucking purely for what it is (my suckness as an owner/GM).
Sorry about the ramble as I'm damn sleepy. I just wanted to toss out my $0.02 toward the people who now seem gunshy about participating in an online league. To me, it's going to just be about getting to know folks you are playing with and just enjoying the experience. And, if you are not, then find a new one.
PS - I think some of y'all are being a bit harsh on the McGuires/Clowns. But that's me.

Has anyone confirmed this?
My answers would be No, Yes, Yes.
I don't see how Exporting your teams stage file to your Commish would cause this problem on another team?
Edit: Never mind your talkign about fake uploading.

The answer is yes. However, most leagues have a system by which only one GM can upload or send his team's exports - whether it be a set e-mail address from which to send it or the way the NAFL has now, an upload page where a GM's forum log-in is used and he can only upload his team's extension number.
Edit: Just saw your Edit. :)

At least one good thing could possibly come out of Gmac-ing the rookie deals. With this exploit used with a league okay, you can now trade players that have been drafted without having to offer them a huge bonus first. You'd have to put a stipulation on the trade that the new team receiving the player offer him his full slotted contract amount, something to that degree. But it could at least have a benefit in that way.
