I'm glad that celebrities, sports figures, etc. are finally getting comfortable enough to be themselves. I'm probably the only Republican on the planet that thinks so, but I think it's important to feel passionate about something, or someone. So, I think it's great and will help countless others who live disassociated lives.

Somebody told me about one of these Scottish Highland Games things over here where they invited the guy who played Scottie to be the "Cheftain of the Games" (a kind of guest of honor thing). Late on Scottie had to withdraw, so they got Sulu instead. Apparently he turned up, got drunk, and spent the rest of the night asking random young men to come back to his hotel room with him.

So it sounds like he wasn't very far in the closet even before coming out.

Well I'm not officially a republican, but I've really considered taking the plunge. In fact the only thing that stopped me from registering republican this last election was the platform at the Republican convention. The first two planks being to push for amendments to outlaw abortion and to ban gay marriage. While I consider abortion to be a deplorable practice, I'm not for making it illegal, though I think some reasonable limitations wouldn't be out of order. I believe that an amendment to ban gay marriage would be tantamount to writing discrimination right back into our constitution. If we do that, the amendment might as well include language that homosexuals only count as three fifths of a person with regards to representation.
