I am in the process of a doing major upgrade on my cpu. I ordered Windows XP w service pack 2 an OEM version from newegg this weekend along with a new motherboard, video card, etc.

I have 2 harddrives, 1 that is 80 GB, my main drive and 1 that is 40 GB which is basically a backup drive.

My plan is to move everything I absolutely have to have over to my 2nd harddrive and leave everything else alone.

My question...

1. Can I install windows xp over windows 2000 Professional as an upgrade instead of a clean install?

My humble thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you can, but a clean install is always the best way to go.

Ick, Windows 'upgrade' installs are always messy and never clean things out right. Best bet is to go with a fresh install, you'll thank yourself 3 months down the road when you don't have to do one then.
