for those of you who already have FM2006 (lucky you! ;))... reposting from the SI forums:
This is now available by using the Check for Updates button inside the game, or via http://www.sigames.com (http://www.sigames.com/)

For those of you who have the game already, we are making this patch available as an EXE only download (all you need to do is drop the exe over your current one)

For those who do not have the patch at all, the full patchers have been updated accordingly.

The new build addresses the following issues :-

Football Manager 2006 v6.0.1 Build 70473
----------------------------------------

+ Fixed problem with Portuguese league and foreigner rule, counting any non-Portuguese players as being foreign, instead of non-EU.
+ Fixed random unregistering of players in leagues which restrict re-registering of players to certain times of the year (Portugal/Spain/Mexico etc)
+ Fixed potential injury news item crash (trying to display injury league table for a non-existent competition).
+ Fixed a crash at the end of the season in Belgium when running with top division only.
+ Added extra sanity checks for manager reputation, to help prevent quick escalation of reputation.
From what I understand, it's not really a patch per se, but really an exe that you drop over your current file... It seems to fix some important bugs with the Portugues and Spanish leagues...

dola, speaking of which Marc, will this fix be compatible with WWSM2006, whenever it is available? Or will it be already coded in the digidownload file?

I understand we are talking about hypothesis here, but I'm curious...

The WWSM2006 download version will include this fix, the retail version will be compatible with the patch.

(ie. if you get the digi-download version you won't need to patch as it'll already contain everything)

PS: you know I'm teasing you Marc, right? :) I appreciate your efforts and I'd assume you are not really happy it's taking so long...

Nah. I'm figurin' on him having something set up in Excel to auto-refresh every 30 seconds, then parse the information and setup an alarm to go off to let him know when it finally goes live.

nobody can really tell you to go get it or avoid it, I guess. I, for one, am still having tons of fun with FM2005 but I wil be getting FM2006 the minute the digidownload is available, if only for the tons of little immersion things that they have added... Just my opinion...

Ditto. This will be the first time I can ever remember where I will continue to play an old version of a sports management game while also starting a career in the new version.

To me, it will be the first time I take the time before starting a real career in a sports sim, maybe allowing SI to issue another patch before I start for real in FM2006. :)

Awesome news, i was waiting for this fix to start my first serious dynasty as Spain was unplayable for me and i didn't want to manage one of that English clubs "that only know to kick long balls and hit headers" (a bit of trash talking waiting for an English fan to answer, the true is that i also enjoy a lot playing the Uk league from the conference).

Oh, I will certainly wait for at least 1 or maybe 2 more patches before I start my "real dynasty." However, in the past I wouldn't buy or touch a new version until I was done a dynasty the previous version.

I know you did that with FM2005, but I wasn't able to wait and started the moment I received the game. I'll have the luxury of waiting this time around... :)

I have a hard time imagining someone continuing FM2005 while playing FM2006 for very long. The improvements IMO are pretty dramatic in the overall feel of the game. I loved FM2005, but after playing most of this week, I can't imagine going back to FM2005 and missing out on all those little tweaks and additions. It would just feel incomplete to me.

As I'm still in the "75% sure I'll get FM2006" category -- could outline more specifically what it is that makes '06 stand out so much over '05?

Don't say that! I must see if Alberto Flores ever lives up to his potential!

I've found this to be true with past versions of CM/FM. I've been buying them since CM3 (except CM99) and everytime I get a new one, I can't seem to go back to the old games. I quickly get accustomed to the new interface, new features, etc. and find it impossible to go back again. That being said, I also have a hard time deleting the old games even if I don't play them. I get attached to them and don't want to let go. I still have CM00-01 loaded on a computer with my Werder Bremen game on it. I fired it up again last week for the first time in 2 years just to see what the game was like. Needless to say, CM/FM has come a long way indeed.

At least in England they celebrate goals like men, not like insects or whatever :D

There are a whole host of new additions and tweaks in it ... of the top of my head the things which are my favourites are ...

Training is much easier to get into and control
Players attributes move up and down with fitness & injuries, ie. doesn't just show their ability level and nothing else so more judgement is required when signing players etc.
Players height and weight are shown and also change according to in-game factors
Even more media (especially player bio's which rock)
Tuned and improved match engine with new commentary and instructions
Half-time team talks
Extra skins (Chameleon is my favourite personally)
Finance graphs showing just where you money went
....
There are literally hundreds of little features and tweaks in the game, which ones will 'stand out' for you will probably be different than the ones which are my favourites, 'tis very much down to personal preference.

(obviously bear in mind I'm naturally biased towards the game for some reason)

I believe thats the 'check in' counter reference to our source control software.

Which means we've made 70,473 check-ins during the development of FM2006 (basically a checkin is a revision where we've changed one or more files during the development of the game, using control software allows us to keep track of what we've changed and if required move back to an earlier version to work out why somethings gone wrong).

Marc,

I don't see the "import FM2005 data for really slow players" feature. Perhaps in FM2007?

Dude, how can u say that? Flores is going to have a better career than Rooney or Adriano (the SC not the GK):)

I say that because everytime Eaglesfan27 talks about finishing that franchise, you can see the whites of his eyes.. FM2006 already pwned him!

I'm just joking around. I don't know who these people are.
