I currently have a pci-e version x300 by n-vidia. For Christmas this year
what i would like is a good card with a video input so that i can use my PC like a TiVo, and enough processing power that it likely will still be solid for most PC games for the next 1-2 years. Preferrably I'd like to spend around 200. What would be some good options?

This is pretty complicated, and usually requires a separate card from the video card.

What you need is a video capture card.

Something like this

The ATI all-in-wonder has a decent video/capture capability in one unit. The X600 is the best one under $200, and the x800 is $300. You might be better off buying the best video card you can for $150 and getting a separate video capture card.

Yeah, hmmm, that does sound like a good option to consider.

Make sure you get one with hardware MPEG 2 encoding. The Hauppage PVR-250 seems to be the popular choice among the Mythtv.org and Freevo.org people.

Why spend all that money on a new video card, when the one you have is decent, and a cheap capture card is what you really need?
