In defense for playing those pocket 2's, FABIEN999 was raising every hand and I just had a good feeling about seeing a 2 on the flop. Just about any other situation, id toss them. BTW, this is a FREEROLL - just a crazy beat story http://dynamic.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

All I can say is "Wow!". You had such a good chance of winning before the River card. That sucks man.

Raising to $420, Betting out again and then calling an all-in with K/Jo that early in the tournament? WTF?

I just had a good feeling about seeing a 2 on the flop.

Try to think about whether this is a good way to make decisions in the game.

2 straight tourneys last week, I limp in my low pocket pairs(3's and 4's), hit the set on the flop, I push all in. 2 straight times I'm called by someone with a mid pocket pair(once 7's, once 8's), which of course sets on the turn and they win. Good thing they were both 250 PP free rolls, or I'd be more pissed.

Yeah, you don't see Dionne Warwick playing much poker these days...now do you? Hmm, hmmm?

FABIEN999 - Raises $420 to $420
CHINASKI - Calls $420

This was a pretty bad beat but instead of thinking about the beat you should be thinking about your play and how to play better. This play was horrible. You say he was raising a lot of hands so I understand the desire to pick a hand and make a stand but 22 isn't that hand. You are at best a coin flip in this situation and you had to commit nearly 1/3 of your chips. With position on this player and deep stacks compared to the blinds just wait for a good hand and when he comes raising don't call...reraise! Which brings me to the other reason calling here is bad. What if one of the other players behind you picks up a good hand and reraises. Now what are you going to do? Fold and lose 1/3 of your chips or push and put yourself in a potentially 4.5:1 situation. Sorry for the rant. You were just probably looking for a pat on the back and comfort about the bad beat.

This is what I've found my big flaw at poker is and the one I'm trying to correct. A lot of my "bad beats" aren't really bad beats at all. They are hands I shouldn't have been in the first place and made the mistake of throwing out to many chips with a poor chance of winning. I think I have a guy read and I get uber aggressive with hands I should have stayed the hell out of from the start.

I'm slowly learning that there is a time to be a little psychotic, but that when you do, you still have to pick your spots and your hands in which to do it. Calling 420 with a pair of deuces isn't a good move. As was said above, even if he had crappy cards, you've put yourself in nothing more than a coin flip.

If you are going to be aggressive there, raise him from the start and try to steal the pot, then go with the coin flip and go nuts. Still not a good play, but at least there is some method to the madness.

I should have added in my defense that this was a Freeroll. If I had any money on this, it wouldnt even cross my mind to call that with pocket 2's. FABIEN999 had rasied 420 every preflop (stoner kid) with all kinds of garbage and I didnt care so much about losing. Im not sour about it, im just sharing my first bad beat in 20 years of poker :)

the $10 is the blind, this was only the 6th hand of lvl 1.

This would have been good information to have in the starting message. I am sorry for my rant in this case. I had had know then I would have posted:

That really sucks, good thing it wasn't for money and you can have a good laugh about it.

Guess that explains my question too... didn't know it was a freeroll...

Looks like a 10 + 1 to me but what do I know.

Either way it's a bad beat considering quads hit the board.

Um... guys?

He's just pointing out a poker hand that involves runner-runner cards showing up to make quads on the board and bust his hand. It was about a 1-in-1000 shot. He thought it might make for a semi-interesting story.

You know that annoying thing that poker people do, where they can't let a single poker-related thought be expressed without falling over themselves to point out a flaw? You're doing that right now. Cut it out.
