With all the chaos in Argentina over the Venezula-US tensions, is Venezula a major threat to us?

Fucking with our oil supply would probably hurt us for a little while, but safety wise I would say no.

Makes we wish we would work harder on finding an alternative to oil.

no one has an incentive to do that. I did hear dead cats make a good source of fuel though (seriously, google it).

Until Venezuela gets a couple of world-class wingbacks, they can't damage the US at all.

I've got it, everyone just needs to whack it. Then kittens will die at an alarming rate, and we'll have all the fuel we need... brilliant!

This is such a joke, the fact that FOXNews and CNN and everyone else is falling in line with the Bush administration and promoting such BS as this. To say that Venezuela is a threat to the U.S. is laughable.

The U.S. is the one that is a threat to Venezuela and the rest of South America were we obviously just can't but out for once and let them try things on their own.

The U.S. has been trying to get Chavez out of office for a while now and has not succeeded. The U.S. is pissed because Chavez doesn't do things the way U.S. interests want him to do things. Of course the other day there are the news services saying the same old BS about Chavez and describing everything from the Bush administration point of view. blah blah blah blah, look up independent news sources folks, get another side of the story. Maybe something that doesn't so quickly throw out the good old fashioned words of scare tactics like Marxism and Leninist within the first few sentences.

Well said....I should of phrase my statement better, in regards of will the oil wealth of Venezula hurt us in terms of our capacity, and the effects of that (economy, ect.).

There's always a supposed "threat" that the government and media like to hype up to distract us from other issues. There's been SARS, West Nile, Bird Flu, Witches, Communists, Hugo Chavez, Iraq, Mexican Mule Cough, Underground Machete Gangs and so on....

If Bush would leave Venezuela to do things their way instead of always screwing with them because they dare to go against us, the Venezuela would never have a reason to cut us off from their oil.

Example from a September article.....

Venezuela, on the other hand, owns a key U.S. subsidiary called Citgo Petroleum Corp., which has 14,000 gas stations and owns eight oil refineries in this country, none of which was damaged by Katrina.

Chavez said he can afford to sharply reduce Citgo's prices by "cutting out the middle man."

His plan is to set aside 10% of the 800,000 barrels of oil produced by the Citgo refineries and ship that oil directly to schools, religious organizations and nonprofits in poor communities for distribution.

The same approach, he said, has worked in the Caribbean, where Venezuela is already sharply subsidizing oil deliveries to more than a dozen nations.

Dola- Let me also say I do NOT think that Venezuela is perfect in any way. They have their problems too, and Chavez is not perfect either. Chavez, as well as Bush, have both done and said things over the last year or so that has started to turn this into a pissing contest. My biggest fear is that things keep going further and further and Chavez is taken out. He is doing some good things in his country, but he could easily blow it all if he is not careful with the U.S........

We need to start The Banana Wars all over again. That will teach them not to mess with US economic interests. :)
