They sacrafice a 3rd round draft pic for a cap violation, but then get to stay over the cap toenter the season. I've seen teams such as the Eagles and Steelers in my league do it. The Eagles are currently 20 mil over the cap(McNabb contract = 20 mil) and the Steelers 10 mil. I don't know, but if all I had to do was give up a 3rd round pick to be permited to violate the cap by that much, I think it would be no skin off my back!!

The thing I hate about this is eventhough a computer team is currently over their cap they are still signing thier rookies and adding players to their roster to go even further in debt.

I believe if you set it for the computer to sign draft picks, and for them to fill your roster, you also can add when you get over the cap.

What bothers me is it seems the drafting AI has gotten worse over the years. I just started a single player career and the top draft prospect in 2006 was a QB rated 35/84, and there was also a second QB rating something like 27/77. These guys would go 1-2 (top 5 max) in any multiplayer league, but in solo.....you have computer teams with no QBs (because computer teams release everybody in the offseason) who pass up the QBs to take a 25/61 guard first overall and load up on 22/45 defensive linemen while superstud QBs sit there waiting to be drafted.

All the teams that desperately need QBs pass them up, round one ends, round two ends, midway through round three the Vikings finally pick up the 35/84 QB to back up Dante Culpepper, then somewhere in the fourth round the Eagles take the second QB to back up McNabb. Meanwhile, about five other teams stick with their 15/32 QBs, even though their draft needs list QB as the number one need.

I don't expect perfection, but the drafting AI with regard to QBs has gotten so bad that it's bordering on pathetic. What kind of AI lets a 35/84 QB drop until late in the third round??? It seems like QBs are weighted more like kickers right now.

I agree, the draft is the weakest part of the game.

The last several careers, I havent seen a QB go #1 overall in 30 plus seasons. In one year, i got a 80 type in the mid first round, and then 2 70 plus types dropped into the 7th. They weren't very developed, though. But the AI definately values QB when you trade them one, as they will give you up to 3 #1s and 2 2s for one. I'd definately like to see any "Stud Type" QB prospect get drafted in the top 3.

One possible thing is that Im not using default rosters, instead using Yaba's.....just possible that it is having some effect.

I got a 86 rated QB 24th overall. Then in the same draft, I got a 80 QB in the 5th round (24th overall). Neither were bloom players. The second QB just kept being overlooked. I just couldn't pass on him, and wanted some security in case my first rounder was a bust.
