Italian lawmakers to consider porn tax (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/I/ITALY_PORN_TAX?SITE=MOSTP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)
My favorite quote: "I believe the porn tax is important not for moralistic reasons, which don't concern me, but because I think that at a time of difficult economic conditions for families it is right to tax products that are not essential," lawmaker Daniela Santache was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency.
First of all I realize this isn't America, but give me a break. I love my friends that have big families and that are very happy. I see all kinds of posters on here whose lives are their kids. Great! That's not my life. Porn isn't either, but don't tax something you don't like an outragous amount just because families are having a difficult time right now. Why not tax the lawmaker's 2nd and 3rd homes a little more? They aren't essential to live a normal life. Why porn? What a joke!

if people can't afford to have big families then they shouldn't have them. Don't go punishing the porn industry which has brought millions (if not billions) of people happiness!

This has all spawned from Catholic guilt.

Heard of this yesterday, never thought it could have made to the STLToday... I guess that's cool: our politicians are clowns enough to be quoted on worldwide level!!!
I'm pretty sure that this fabolous idea will surely have the support of all the catholic church... Because porn is bad, veeery bad. That's one of the biggest problem of our society, and our country in particular.
...
You said it: what a joke.

Who decides what is essential and what is not? If you'd ask Arlie, now that we have a baby, porn is essential.

A few points.
First, Farrah, TMI, woman. T. M. I.
Second, with the glory of the internet, I am surprised anyone pays for porn nowadays. I can see how it's very tempting to do so, but come on! The internet is loaded with free porn. But for free porn and google the internet would be but a shadow of what it is today. Hell, many firewalls wont even block European porn! Well, unless you happen to be in Europe, I suppose.
This tax is meaningless.

Exactly. And by extension, the argument can be made that if you are foolish enough to pay for porn, you deserve to get taxed. Double.

I was only half-serious. All his waking moments are spent on BBCF. No time for porn.
You know, that really grinds my gears. Where in the Bible does it say that a man can't fire off some knuckle-children in the privacy of his own neighbor's living room while his neighbor's at work because I don't have a DVD player? Well, I don't know where it says it because the Bible was way too long to read.
