Oh Decisions, Decisions...

...So they're forecasting snow for the mid-Atlantic area again, and going by this page (http://www.nbc4.com/weather/5485486/detail.html#), I'm on the 5-8" of snow side of the line, but am sort of near the 3-6" snow/mix line.

Now, truthfully, I do need milk, as I don't have enough for my cereal for tomorrow morning. But I'm really not sure I want to face the idiots at the grocery store, all stocking up on milk because that's what people do in this area.


Do I brave the morons and go get milk (and whatever other groceries I need)?

Or do I say "screw it" and have oatmeal or something for breakfast?

Really, the decision sucks either way...

I have 7 bottles of half to non-used milk in my fridge. The oldest one dates about 3 months ago... I just don't use milk... and I'm talking these little bottles, the smallest you can buy. I didn't even use the milk I bought 2 weeks ago.

Sweet, they lowered it, I am on that same line between the grey and white where the S in snow mix is. It used to say 3-6 and thats it for me, buts thats enough here to make people drive like morons.

Why don't you go to like a 7-11 and get milk if they have some or some sort of convenience store rather than a large supermarket. I am holding off because its not gonna be that bad, and plus I live a block away from anything I need so I will just venture out and get it tomorrow.

I make my own milk. It's just easier that way, and it feels good on a cold night.

But really, unless it's a HUGE storm, dont bother. It's not like you're gonna be stuck inside for days.

People here go apeshit over a dusting forecast to the point of stores having lines down the aisles if they hear we could get 2 inches.

Well between the snow expected in Jersey starting at midnight and continuing til around 4, and the snow/ice mix expected here in DC beginning in the AM, I don't know how good its looking for my 3 PM flight from Reagan to Newark.

I just abhor stupidity. Unfortunately, I've found it abounds in this world (well at least in my corner of the world).



On a side note, I ended up going after finishing my milk and realizing I was out of oatmeal, so I was stuck with Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, though it was funny to see that there wasn't much milk left (yes I did get my gallon, though).

I like milk. It's tasty. I like cereal with milk. While living in Brussels, I didn't drink too much milk, because it's kind of hard to find fresh milk there. They sell milk in carboard cartons and it stays fresh for like 3 months. It's disgusting. I only used it in coffee. So, last year, I was in Ireland for vacation and stayed at this place that had an amazing breakfast buffet. They had these large, cold jugs of fresh milk. The cow was probably less than 100 yards away or so. So I decided to have a couple of large, delicious glasses of nice, cold milk. Tasty. Nutrious. I could feel my bones growing stronger with each gulp.

A few hours later I discovered that some how I had become lactose intolerant to some degree or another. I spent the next 48 hours feeling incredibly bloated and didn't/couldn't eat a thing. Each tiny burp was like a godsend, but did very little good. It was a sad sight.

Earlier this summer I had a heavy night of drinking. A friend ended up ordering some kind of shot (A "B-52" or "B-17" or something like that). It had some liquor in it and kahlua and something else. It was vile. I had two. Needless to say sometime later the lactose in the kahlua didn't agree with ole H_B and he spent the night talking to Huey on the big, white telephone. Not good times.

Needless to say, I have milk with my coffee, but outside that I take very measured doses.

Oh yeah, and my zip code is expecting 3-5 inches of snow according to weather.com. I think I have plenty of milk.

You know, when I first moved to this area, I had no idea people did that either.

The evening before the first snow was predicted was the night that Lumpy and I decided to make our first shopping trip to stock the house we had just moved into. We could not believe how many people were doing their shopping on a Monday night! That was probably the last time we went to the store with snow in the forecast after people at work explained to me the snow/milk phenomenon.

I've worked some when lines for the checkout snaked all the way to the back of the store. it can be crazy, especially if the snow is forecast over a weekend.

the real mindfuck is that the pre-snow boost in sales was usually significantly better than the loss of sales during the storm.

Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah, they have the sealed cartons of milk over in Europe, but they also have the freshest, creamiest, most delicious milk in the entire world! You get to scoop the cream off the top of the bottle the shit is so fresh...and I know it's not just in Ireland they have the good stuff.
