View Full Version : Ping: Anyone who Tivo's (or even watches) PTI

My recordings for 3 of the past 5 PTI's have started almost 4-5 minutes into the show. I can't find anything wrong with the time on my box and I am not having issues with other shows I am recording. Has ESPN been running ahead of schedule by any chance or is something else screwed up? Any ideas?

I see the same problem.
I Tivo Around The Horn, too (which is on right before PTI). Today, ATH started on time, but some weird transmission glitch made about 5-10 minutes of ATH run at very high speed. Thus, ATH finished early & PTI started right after it.
Didn't watch ATH the other days that PTI started early, so I can't say if that's what happened those days.

Hmmm, so it seems to be a problem on ESPN's end. I wonder if anything happened to people watching on live TV? I may have to start Tivoing the ESPNnews version of PTI is this continues, if anything to see what the deal is.

I may just be totally dreaming this or something, but for some reason I want to say that I vaguely remember hearing/reading something about PTI (and maybe another show or two) experimenting with starting off-cycle with the clock by a few minutes (kinda like TBS did years ago, starting everything at :05 & :35).
Like I said, that may just be the Robitussin talking, but if I'm not totally nuts that would account for what you're seeing.

It would. But that would mean they are starting Sportscenter 5 minutes earlier also, which probably wouldn't make a lot of sense. (These shows would have to be stating at :55 or :25 to produce the problem we are seeing)

Again IIRC, the idea was to shorten the preceeding show by a few minutes, giving PTI an extra few minutes with an early start. Is it ending on your TiVo at the right time? Or is it ending at like :25?

PTI starts at the normal time, and ends at the normal time (IIRC), but about 10 minutes into SC they cut BACK to PTI for an extra 5 minutes.

I TIVO PTI, and I had the off cycle problem in 2 of the episodes, but the rest seem to be fine. I have no idea what caused it.

Is PTI like the only decent show on ESPN? I'm thinking so.

Except for Sunday Night Football, it is the only show I watch regularly on ESPN.

PTI is pretty good. Around the Horn is annoying, but I like the perspective on days when the news is good and it's something to watch if I have the TV on. Sportscenter...boy, I haven't checked that out in ages seemingly.

I don't think I've watched Sports Center since like 1997.

Ditto. With adding that I really like PTI when it's Kornheiser and Wilbon. When one of them is missing, the show isn't as good, and when they are both missing, I usually just don't watch. They just have a certain chemistry that really makes the show work.

Agreed. They work really well together, and seem more genuine than all most of the other ESPN personalities.

Yeah and I think I appreciate that Wilbon and Kornheiser are really journalists. A lot of the hacks on ESPN now are just talking heads. I used to like the Sports Reporters on ESPN on Sundays, specifically for all the commentary we are bombarded with between ATH and the whole deal on ESPN2 with Woody Paige and Bayless. But...Wilbon and Kornheiser work particularly well together and it makes the show fun most times. Especially when they do interviews.

Maybe we could get Jason Alexander to play Kornheiser and a washed-up former child star--say the kid who played Bill Cosby's son--to play Wilbon. That would have to be a smash hit.

PTI is f'in fantastic. And it's only been a couple of shows recently with the problem and the rest were fine. It's been weird...they better not fuck with the schedule, or I'll be angry!!!

I think it was three, but maybe it was just two. I am tivoing now, but I will checking in a few minutes to see if it is screwed up.
Couldn't agree more with the comment above about guest hosts.
When somebody besides Wilbon says "Pardon the Interruption I'm..." I grab the control and if the other person isn't Tony Kornhesier it's deleted. I can handle one of the two with Dan Lebatard (he appreciates that he is a fill in) or Bob Ryan (who doesn't bother me enough to not watch). But Mariotti or Whitlock (oh God) or Steven A. Smith won't get a watch even with one of the two regulars on the show.
I really like when statboy gets under Kornheiser's skin. I could see Tony K being a real prick around the set and you can tell he hates to get burned.

Agreed. There was once a perfect storm of suck in which Steven A. Smith and Skip Bayless were co-hosting the show for about a week.
The horror... The horror...

PTI is excellent. They are funny. You so crazy.I used to love Tony Kornheiser's morning radio show. PTI is on at an inconvenient time for me, but I like what I've seen. Kornheiser's show is about the only reason I have for getting satelite radio.

TiVO, baby! TiVO!
I watch in the mornings while drinking my coffee and perusing the internet. Except for the mornings when Lady H_B is up and about the TV area. She loathes the "screaming guys".
