hmmmm, glad I didnt buy into the "If Brokeback is succesful everyone must want to be gay" thoughts....15mill. 269 screens and most importantly for businesses - profitable.

I'll admit it, I was wrong. I may not like the subject material, but you can't dispute the numbers. I was 100% wrong about that movie.

I've not seen BM.

The first I heard of any homosexual themes in the movie, though, was in "Boondocks."

A comic strip I read about once a month, if that.

Considering I know terribly little about the movie to begin with, and wouldn't even have known that much without the comics, I'm not sure if that speaks more to my general ignorance of film culture these days, or if Hollywood struggling to get the word out about their artsy-fartsy films (cuz they sure ain't havin' any trouble with the inane fare).

Just a minor point, but you do know that its only 4.8 million this week on 269 screens, which is a great average nonetheless. 15 million is the total gross for 4 weekends.. It's a bit of a leap to say that it would do 10 million on 500 screens, or 40 million a weekend on 2000 screens.

right the average is incredible and we wont know how it does on a broad scale unless they do decide to promote it like a blockbuster BUT for now, the numbers make the movie profitable (which is the biggest deal to the distributers) and the reviews have been good (which is important to the actors, directors, and crew)...thereby leading it to getting stamped with "succesful"....still doesnt make me want to be gay though :)
