Is it best to have your mids and wingers contribute more to the offense or defense?

It's best to have a defense that can stop their offense and an offense that can penetrate their defense. Use your mids and wingers as they're most needed in service of that goal.

its best not to build your team around the counter attack ;)

unless you can afford a 900k salary like Fair Oak Diamonds

Ha. Well no, I'm just talking about trying it out for one game. I get the pleasure of facing an opponent who has a better avg Hatstat rating than me and I have to play him at his place. Super.

Personally when I run a CA, I still play my midfielders in their normal, offensive, defensive modes that I would play them in if I was playing normal.

Like Mr. Wednesday said, it's a delicate calculus. My advice is, first priority is that your defense is a couple levels higher than their offense, higher if you're getting less than 40% possession. Then look at your attack, if it is a little higher than their defense without the IM's or winger's help, then err on the side of defense, because there will most likely be more attacks against you than you will have.
