What I'm going to do is do a update of my team each month, and for now, a update of everyone's players every 3 months. I'm only doing the GM part of the game, so this should go a little quicker than normal.
Here's the bio's of your players:
Colton Mayes
Colton, a 14-year-old centerman for the St. Louis Junior Blues, has a great feel for the game, and has the potential to play in the big leagues someday. His future plans look for him to join the college game in a few years.
Travis Elkin
Elkin brings a simliar game to the table as Mayes does, but isn't as flashy. He currently plays for Sherwood Park, a local junior club. He's looking forward to being drafted into the CHL in the coming year.
Daniel Gothe
A man who was hard to track down, Gothe has the potential to explode in a couple of years, as he is playing for Djurgardens' junior team in the Swedish league. I don't see him staying in Sweden too long, just enough to let some NHL scouts see him play.
Owen Hunter Jr.
Hunter knows how to shoot the puck and he does it well for the New England Jr. B Huskies, a good junior team outside of Boston. Unlike some of his US counterparts, he is currently looking to play major junior hockey, but that could always change.
AJ Tucker
Halfway across the US from Hunter is Tucker, who shoots the puck just as well, but also knows how to find his teammates. He is a teammate of Colton Mayes and those two will break some records for the Junior Blues.
Andrew Baerg
A true centerman who always wants to find the open man, and does it well, Andrew is lighting it up for the Winnipeg Hawks, and wants to play major junior.
Nicolas Fillion
Nicolas doesn't have the size as most of his fellow early teenagers do, but he is quick enough to stop any puck that comes near him. He is playing for a junior team, Gatinueau, and wants to play major junior as well.
Danny Wilson
While Fillion can stop any puck from anywhere, Wilson is the lunch-pail type of goalie, he comes in and does his job well all of the time, without any flash. Currently playing for the Plymouth Midgets, Danny hopes to play US College hockey.
K.N. Smith
They play hockey in France?? Seriously, Smith has the potential to be the best in France at a very young age. He is currently playing for HC Morzine, just below the top level in France, and could see himself playing at the top very soon.
John Williams
A very brilliant kid who is very mature for his age, the 14-year-old Williams knows how to play the game, and does it quite well. He is currently playing for the Toronto Marlboros, but he wants to attend an Ivy League school in the future. We'll see if he can pass up the temptation of playing major junior.
Jeff Riddle
While Danny Wilson keeps the pucks out of the net for Plymouth, he doesn't see many shots because of Riddle. Jeff knows how to get in the head of everyone he plays, and is considered the shutdown defensemen. Very gritty game and is not afraid to drop the gloves.
Mike Tokunaga
Mike is an excellent two-way defensmen, who has one heck of a slapshot, but also isn't afraid of putting someone in the boards. He is currently playing for the Calgary SWAA Blue, but his visions are set for major junior hockey.
Shane Lamb
The Scottish Lamb is currently in England playing for the Cardiff Devils junior team, and has a shot to make it on the top team as a 14 year old winger. His quickness gets him open a lot, but his speciality is putting people into the boards and taking them out of their game.
Dean Hoo
Already playing for one of the top teams in Australia, Dean is a quick winger who can put the puck in the net. For the Sydney Bears, the 14 year old has the potential to put up some huge numbers against guys twice his age.
Robert Hillier
Don't mess with Robert, a 6' 200 lb defensemen who doesn't care about playing with much older and experienced players, he just likes to hit people and make them pay. Playing for the Edinburgh Capitals, Hillier has a chance to make it big someday.
Frank Justice
While not flashy, Justice can make that first pass out of the defensive zone, really creating some room for the rest of his teammates. He plays an excellent two-way game as a defenseman, and his California Wave junior team leans on him for as much time as possible. He'll be looking at colleges soon.
Radovan Dusek
The Slovakian Dusek has a very similar game to Justice, and maybe brings it a little more on the defensive end. Radovan is currently playing for HKm Detva Jr., who doesn't plan on having him for much longer, as he has too much talent to be playing on a team that low.
Trevor Johnson
An offensive defenseman if you've ever seen one, Johnson isn't afraid to jump up on the play and bury the biscuit, or find the open man to score. However, he often forgets his own end, and leaves his London Jr. Knights teammates to scratch their heads.

August/September/October 2005
Well, I'm still not used to being in the saddle for a Western Hockey League team, as Seattle isn't the same as Columbus, who I've coached in the other times playing EHM. To help make the game go faster, all I will do is bring in the guys, and I will let the coach take care of the lineups and the games.
In September, we have about 7 guys go to training camps in the NHL, and we ended up losing Ken Plaquin and Dennis Sorrenson, who are both currently playing in the AHL for Toronto and Springfield, respectively. We have about 35 guys come into training camp, but we only sign Sergei Gazyrua and Tyson Papalia, but both will probably see time with the Washington Totems, our own 'minor league' team.
What ends up hurting us is that we get two players currently signed by NHL teams back on loan. Defensemen Jay Rosenhill (Tampa Bay) and Zach FitzGerald (St. Louis) were loaned back to us, and are very good players. However, this is where I am introduced to the overage rule, where we cannot play more than 3 '85 guys in our lineup. We also have Tyler Johnson, a solid two-way center who is on loan from the Flames, Ryan Gibbons, a scorer and Bryan Bridges, an excellent tender.
At this point, I know I will have two of these guys on the bench every night, but I cannot trade Rosenhill, FitzGerald, or Johnson, as they are on loan. After Bridges, we have no goaltending, so I cannot move him. This leaves Gibbons, who we ship off to Brandon for a 2nd round pick in the upcoming Bantam Draft. We'll go to the season with one of the defensemen out of the lineup, which will initiall be Rosenhill.
We have a solid first month in October, ending with a 7-2-4 record and in first place of the US division. Aaron Gagnon, our captain, has 16 points and seemed to score all of the clutch goals we've needed. We called up 16-year-old Dave Richard from Washington, and he has 8 points in 6 games. C Chris Durand has scored 7 goals in 9 games, while fighting some tough injuries.

November 2005
At the beginning of the month, I feel we need a little more depth, so we bring in 16-year-old RW Adam Michie and 18-year-old D John Vadnais, who are prospects of ours. Michie should give us some help on the wing and Vadnais will start in Washington, but should see some time in Seattle pretty soon.
We start to lose our composure this month, losing some close games and just not finding the scoring touch that we had. We had 6 goals in our last 5 games of November, going 1-4 over that stretch, which saw our team drop from 1st to 3rd in the division. Also, our goaltending hasn't been as solid as we would like. We have everyone healthy, but we will be looking to acquire some scoring in the coming months.

December 2005/January 2006
We continue to play .500 hockey, but I keep looking for ways to improve the team. I continue to try to find a suitor for G Bryan Bridges, but nobody feels that he is worthy enough for an overager. However, we see that C Colton Gilles, the 2nd pick in the Bantam Draft a couple of years ago, has fallen out of the graces of Saskatoon. We inquire about him, and pick him up at the small cost of swapping 4th round pick for a 12th round pick. He's not a goal scorer, but I feel like he can be an excellent playmaker in a couple of years.
As we go into 2006, we keep tinkering with the roster, moving some guys up from Washington, and others down. We look at our gluttony of centers, so we decide to ship two guys out who were playing for Washington. C Yashar Farmanara is sent to Spokane for LW J.P. Szaszkiewicz and three mid-round draft picks. C Lindsay Nielsen is sent to Lethbridge for LW Robert Skinner and a couple of draft picks.
A couple of days later, we feel like we really need another younger goaltender at the trade deadline, so we add Linden Rowat for a 4th round pick. Then we ship out an unhappy James McEwan, a talented but underachieving 18-year-old, to Calgary for a 9th round pick.
We start to play better, but we can't put any wins together. We tried to add a scoring punch to the lineup, but we aren't willing to pay the price (young prospects) to add one.

February 2006 - May 2006
A very long gap, as nothing too interesting happened. We decided to suck some more by scoring the least amount of goals in the league, and lose 3 of 4 games to Everett in the last 2 weeks, letting them jump above us for the final playoff spot.
In February, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim like what they see in G Bryan Bridges and they offer him a contract to join the team in July, which he accepts, as he went undrafted in his year. He continues to play well for us, but gets little support in scoring, so it is no help.

Moose Jaw defeats Kamloops 4-3 to win the WHL and advance to the Memorial Cup, where they will face Quebec and Moncton from the Q and London from the OHL. Here, Moose Jaw fell flat, losing all three games, and doesn't make the three team playoff. Quebec beats Moncton 6-1 in the semi-final and then beats London 6-5 to win the Memorial Cup.
As we see some guys being returned to their NHL teams at the end of the season, I thought I would list what NHL teams have rights to some of our players.

As the WHL Bantam Draft comes up, we have four prospects that can be drafted, with Justice as the likely first pick, Tokunaga ranked 5th, Baerg ranked 13th, and Elkin, who is surprisingly unranked.
Currently, I have the third pick in the draft, so I will be looking long and hard at Tokunaga, as I don't think I can trade up and get Justice. Also, I will try to get Elkin later on in the draft.

2006 WHL Bantam Draft
Regina has the first pick in the draft and grabs a defenseman, but its NOT Frank Justice, as the Pats decide to go with Jared Cowen, who is very strong on the defensive side and has some offensive upside as well. However, I don't feel that he's nearly that good as Justice is on the offense.
Red Deer picks next and goes with a C, James Henry. I wasn't that impressed with Henry, as he seems like an ordinary two-way center, who will never be a top line player.
At this point, I know exactly who I am going to pick....

With the 3rd Pick in the 1st Round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the Seattle Thunderbirds select....
D Frank Justice, California Wave.
Justice, a 5'10" defenseman out of San Jose, California, is very mature for his age (14). He is one of the quickest players in this draft, but he is one of the strongest as well. He also has a mean streak and is not afraid to put anyone into the boards, and is the best of the draft in checking. He also has a solid offensive game and is one of the best passers, able to get that first pass out of his zone and transition very well. He also brings a good slapshot to the table, but once it develops, watch out.
For the next pick, Koonetay decides to draft another defenseman....
TurnerONU22
02-02-2006, 03:22 PM
With the 4th pick of the 1st Round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the Koonetay Ice select...
D Mike Tokunaga, Calgary SWAA Blue
Tokunaga is known for two things: hitting the puck and hitting people. The 14-year-old stands a tall 6'2" and isn't afraid to use his body to take people out of the play. He wants to get the good players in the corner, where he can work them over and take them out of their game. On the other end of the ice, he has the best slapshot of anyone on the ice, and can put it through traffic quite nicely. While not as athetically and mentally gifted as Justice, Mike has an overall better game right now.
Just a couple picks later, we see another fellow player being taken....

02-02-2006, 03:28 PM
With the 7th Pick of the 1st Round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the Lethbridge Hurricanes select....
C Andrew Baerg, Winnipeg Hawks
Baerg is a normal sized 14-year-old, at 5'7", but at 158, could start to put a little more muscle on. However, he has the talent to play at his first chance, because of his passing. Baerg knows where everyone on the ice is around him and knows how to get them the puck. If you put him with a great finishing winger, Bearg can get them an easy goal a game. Before he passes, he can create some space with his stickhandling, second to none in this draft. He can create some odd-man rushes going the other way, and make the perfect pass.
In the 2nd round, the Thunderbirds have three picks, picking up a winger, defenseman and a goalie, all three who have loads of potential.
Just a couple rounds later, we see the last of our players drafted....
TurnerONU22
02-02-2006, 03:41 PM
With the 83rd pick in the 5th round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the Seattle Thunderbirds select....
LW Travis Elkin, Sherwood Park Flyers
I wasn't waiting for another round, as some teams started to take unranked players and I was afraid someone else would take Elkin. Travis has a solid game that has gone unnoticed by many scouts, except mine, who all feel like he will be a great player for Seattle. He is a 15-year old, who has a solid all-around game. He takes care of his own end very well, with a surprisingly good pokecheck for a winger. However, he might be the most creative player in the draft, as he will do some crazy things that nobody else will think of. He'll play it off of the boards to himself, anything to get himself some space. When he gets that space, he has a great wrister to put it in the back of the net. He's one of those guys you need on a winning team.
The rest of the draft was pretty plain, as you won't hear from any of these guys this year due to the WHL rules. However, when the 2007 season rolls around, I think Justice and Elkin will find the lineup.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!
The Seattle Thunderbirds would like to announce a trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, sending our first round pick in 2007, for their first round pick this year, C Andrew Baerg.
"Baerg is an excellent player and will fit in quite nicely with our group of young players. I feel like he can do great things here in Seattle," said Daniel Turner, GM of the Thunderbirds.
Also, it is being reported that Turner tried to go after D Mike Tokunaga, but Koonetay asked for much more than Seattle was willing to give, believed to be D Frank Justice.

2006 CHL Import Draft
With three of the four FOFC'ers I could get, I headed into the Import Draft, hoping to pick up at least one player who could make a good impact.
Our first pick (9th overall) is Daniil Karpyuk is a solid LW from Russia, who brings a good scoring touch to a team who needs one desparately.
In the 2nd round, we bring aboard LD Ales Cech, a great two-way defensemen who just needs to get a little stronger before he will be excellent.
With these two foreign players hoping to crack the roster, and with at least 4 overagers, one who is foreign, we will need to make some moves down the road.

WHL does their bantam draft at 14, so these guys i'm drafting won't be able to play this year. The Q and the OHL do theirs at 15, so you'll see the rest of the kids up this year in those drafts.

You're playing in Australia's top league, with guys that are almost 3 times your age, and you're leading the team in goals. So, you're competition has much more experience (20 and 30 year old) verses the North American guys (15). You're still in good shape to be a solid draft pick in a couple of years

2006 NHL Draft
Eerily similar to what will likely happen in real life, the St. Louis Blues have the first overall pick and draft the American Phil Kessel. After this, the Columbus Blue Jackets select Bryan Little, followed by Euro winger Michael Frolik drafted by the Boston Bruins and C Peter Mueller is drafted by the Minnesota Wild.
Two Thunderbirds are drafted, as Mitch Fadden is selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 2nd Round (50). The second is Bud Holloway, by the Blues in the 5th Round (133).
Just a little while after the draft, Holloway is traded to the Washington Capitals, in a deal for Eric Fehr.
TurnerONU22
02-04-2006, 09:00 AM
USA:
LW: AJ Tucker - St. Louis Jr. Blues
C: Colton Mayes - St. Louis Jr. Blues
Tucker and Mayes have torn up their league, as it seems no team can stop this 1-2 punch. However, this team won't be together for too much longer, as AJ wants to play Major Junior hockey and Colton wants to play US College hockey. AJ missed the eligibility date this year for the OHL by just a few days, so he'll have to wait to be drafted until 2008, but Colton might be selected and swayed to play with AJ.
RW: Owen Hunter Jr. - NE Jr. B Huskies
A pure scorer, Hunter is going to make an impact in college as soon as he gets there. He's already one of the top players in HS hockey, just as a sophomore.
LD: Jeff Riddle - Plymouth Midgets
Jeff is hoping to build off of a solid season, where he burst on the scene with a solid defensive game. While Riddle rarely makes mistakes in his own end, he doesn't have to worry because he has one of the best in the pipes.
RD: Frank Justice - California Wave - WHL Rights to Seattle
I can't wait to have this kid on my team, as I think he could be a top-4 guy right now, and by next year, I know he'll get some significant playing time at 16.
G: Danny Wilson - Plymouth Midgets
Another college prospect, Wilson hopes to build on an excellent season that he had. This kid seems to just have "it" in the pipes, and is as cool as a cucumber, something that can't be taught.
Canada:
LW: Travis Elkin - Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings - WHL Rights to Seattle
Elkin was unknown when last season started, but I knew he had loads of potential, which is why I made sure I took him before nobody else was going to. I'll bring him in next year and I think he has a chance to make a solid impact. He's taking his game to a better minor junior team this year, hoping that playing against better talent will make him a better player in the WHL.
C: Andrew Baerg - Winnipeg Thrashers - WHL Rights to Seattle
A very similar story to Travis, Andrew was someone I knew I needed on this team, so I gave up my first rounder next year to pick him up. While we are already strong up the middle, I truly believe he'll get some playing time next year. Also, just like Travis, he is on a new team and playing against better talent.
RW: John Williams - Toronto Marlboros - Preseason #39 - OHL Draft
Williams is excited to move on and looks to be a 2nd round pick in the upcoming OHL draft. With his solid game, he will make a team very happy when he comes aboard.
LD: Trevor Johnson - London Jr. Knights - Preseason #120 - OHL Draft
Talk about a guy who's gettin no love, Johnson might be the best offensive defensman in the draft, and he's projected to go in the later rounds. If his ranking doesn't go up, he will be a steal in this draft.
RD: Mike Tokunaga - CAC - WHL Rights to Kootenay
Just like the other Canadians drafted into the WHL this year, Tokunaga is preparing by going to a more talented team this year. Kootenay would be stupid if they don't bring Mike aboard next year, as he has the talent to make a solid impact.
G: Nicolas Fillion - Gatineau L'Intrepide - Preseason #19 - Q Draft
Our only Q prospect, Fillion might be the only 1st round pick this season. He had a terrific year in the pipes, and I think down the road, we'll see some Wilson/Fillion matchups in the WJC's.
World:
LW: Shane Lamb (SCO) - Cardiff Devils (ENL)
Leading his English National team in goals, Lamb was hoping to be added to the top English roster like his fellow FOFC'er in Hiller. However, Cardiff decided to give him some more seasoning and help to increas his strength.
C: K.N. Smith (FRE) - HC Morzine-Avoriaz
Smith had a great first season in France and hopes to build on it this season. He is a definate NHL prospect in a couple of years, coming out of France. We'll see if Smith can keep it up until then.
RW: Dean Hoo (AUS) - Sydney Bears
Hoo is holding his own in the top Australian league, and I wouldn't be surprised if he came over to North America to help increase his profile. For this season, he'll keep playing for Sydney.
LD: Radovan Dusek (SLV) - HKm Detva Jr.
Dusek is the only prospect that has stated that he wants to come and play Major Junior hockey. I think we'll see him in a couple of years in the CHL Import draft, where he has the talent to go first overall.
RD: Robert Hillier (ENG) - Edinburgh Capitals
Hillier is holding his own in the top English league because of his size. If he has the size of Shane Lamb, he probably wouldn't be here right now. However, he is hitting everything that moves on the ice, including the puck at times, and he'll keep doing that for Edinburgh this year.
G: Daniel Gothe (SWE) - Djurgardens IF
The first player to move teams in this group, Gothe is playing the backup role for one of the best teams in Sweden. He has a great goalie infront of him, so don't expect him to see much time this season. However, the starter is in his mid-30s, so Gothe might have a chance to be the starter very soon.

Preseason 2006
In our worst news so far, we try to sign Daniil Karpyuk, our first pick in the Import Draft, but it turns out that he doesn't want to come over to North America to play hockey. We do sign Ales Cech, our second pick, and he comes aboard.
However, we now have three foreign players, one over the limit. Between Cech, streaky winger Roman Tomanek and C Ladislav Scurko, we decide that Scurko was the most expendable, so we ship him off to Swift Current, and get C/RW Phil Gervais in return. Gervais is a 16-year-old who can score when he gets the chance. However, he's not mentally ready for a top line, so I think he'll see a few minutes a night on the fourth line, and some occasional PP duty.
In July, we make a few signings. We lock Gervais up to a deal to come aboard, and also sign D Justin Lutz and Johnny Mahovlich, G Dallas Ungarian and Austin Krahenbil. These four guys will give us some young depth that will most likely play for Washington, our minor team. We also release D John Vadnais, who would have been an overager this year, but might have made the team as a 5/6 defenseman, not someone we want to spend that spot on.
Also, Phoenix and C Aaron Gagnon come to an agreement on an entry level contract. At this point, we don't feel that he'll make the roster, so we leave an overage spot open for him. If he doesn't come back, then we'll either leave the spot open, or make a deal for someone.
For training camp, we end up inviting a bunch of our younger prospects in to give our team some competition. However, it results in only one player joining our team, as I feel confident with the team that we currently have. LW Nathan Shevalier gives us some depth on the wing, and I feel that he might give our main team some scoring punch, which we lack.
On the 20th of September, Tri-City approaches us with an interesting deal. They are interested in Mitch Fadden, a center who has been stuck down in the depth chart for us. They want him and Otis McMillian, a good defensive prospect. In return, they will ship us RW Taylor Procyshen, an 18-year-old scorer, along with 4th rounders in '07 and '08 and a 9th rounder in '07. We sit on this deal for a while, because I'm not sure that I'm sold on Procyshen as being our solution to our scoring problems. However, Fadden hasn't played solid for us either and we need depth on the wing, so I pull the trigger on this move.
Just a few days later, Phoenix sends Aaron Gagnon back to our team, which makes me feel even better about the deal we just made.
We look so-so in our exhibition games, but the media feels that we are the 5th best team in the WHL. They said something similar last season and we all know how that went. I feel that this team will go as far as our scorers will take us.

October-December 2006
With very little upgrades in scoring and losing our number one goalie, I wasn't very encouraged by this season. But thanks to Taylor Procyshen and Gavin McHale, we are currently 2nd in our division with a 24-11-3 record and our 51 points is 2nd best in the entire league, only behind Portland's 53.
Procyshen has been the best player on our team so far, leading the team in goals (25), points (51) and +/- (+18). The top line of Tomanek-Durand-Procyshen has been tearing it up, with Tomanek and Durand having career years. Just as important has been McHale, who might not be the most talented goalie in the league, but has a save percentage over .900 and his helped by our excellent defense. Clayton Barthel and Scott Jackson are the top pairing on the PK, PP and 5 on 5 hockey and they are just excellent together.
We are very encourage by the play so far this season, and hopefully we can keep it up and go deep into the playoffs.

Actually, now that I look back at your guy, i'm even more confused now. He hasn't been hurt at all, he's just not playing. Even so, you'll see that he's higher rated in the upcoming preview

January 2007 - June 2007
We continue to play good hockey, but we're in a four-way race with Portland, Tri-City and Everett. We make a couple of small moves before the deadline, picking up G Trevor Peeters from Swift Current and C/RW Dustin Cameron from Saskatoon for a couple of mid-round draft picks. Peeters gives us a good backup goalie for the year (he has one year before he's an overager) and Cameron is a two-way winger that will help our team defesne.
We clinch a playoff spot in early March, because of the terrible season that Spokane has. Portland has a nice surge in March, as they end up taking a nice lead over the other three teams. We finish alright, as we're able to beat out Tri-City, but not Everett. We finish 3rd and will face Everett in the first round of the playoffs.

WHL Playoffs - First Round - Seattle vs. Everett
We've dominated Everett in the regular season, going 7-1 and we hope to keep it up.
In game 1, Colton Gillies scores two early goals for us and sets the tone in a 4-1 win on the road.
In game 2, its a nice fight back and forth early on, but Everett gets 4 goals in the 3rd period and wins the game 5-4.
Back at home for game 3, the game ends up going to overtime, when Taylor Procyshen scores one for the good guys 5 minutes in.
In game 4, Chris Durand, Aaron Gagnon and Scott Jackson score within the first 15 minutes, helping Seattle coast to an easy 5-3 end.
Back to Everett for game 5, Seattle comes from behind in the 3rd thanks to goals by Scott Jackson and Roman Tomanek to win the game 4-2 and the series 4-1!!!

WHL Playoffs - Quarterfinals - Seattle vs. Kootenay
Kootenay finished 2nd in their divison and we hope for a good series against them, as we split the regular season.
In the first game, we hang tough with them, trading goals, but they score one late and win the game 4-3.
In the second game, their goaltender stands on his head, stopping all 32 shots that he face and helps Kootenay win 3-0.
Back at home, we hope for a change in fortunes for game three. However, three first period Kootenay goals didn't help and we lose 4-2.
Being down 3-0 in the series, we had some work to do, starting with game four. Chris Durand scores a clutch goal in the 3rd period, breaking a 2-2 tie and helping Seattle win 4-2.
Back in Kootenay, Bud Holloway chips in with an early goal, followed by 2 straight Taylor Procyshen goals, and helps Seattle win 4-2.
Game 6 is back in Seattle, and Gavin McHale stood on his head for the last 55 minutes of the game, stopping 25 of 26 shots, and 2 first period goals helped lead to a 3-1 victory.
Game 7 would be huge, as Seattle has a chance to do what very few teams have ever done: come back from a 3-0 deficit. The first 30 minutes were played very tight until Bud Holloway finds himself on a breakaway and scores to put Seattle up 1-0. For the next 10 minutes, the game is back and forth, but the goalies come up huge. However, Taylor Procyshen scores on the PP, helping Seattle to a 2-0 lead, and we hang on for the victory!!!

WHL Playoffs - Semifinals - Seattle vs. Portland
The best team we've faced all year, its gonna take some quality play to win this series. Portland led the series 6-2-2 this season against us.
Game 1 couldn't be over soon enough for Seattle, as they let in three early goals , leading to a 4-1 victory for Portland.
Game 2 in Portland got off to a better start, as Chris Durand and Roman Tomanek got Seattle off to a 2-0 lead. However, Portland came back with 4 2nd period goals and won the game 4-2.
Glad to be back home for Game 3, Aaron Gagnon scored the first goal of the game, but just like the last one, Portland finds a way to come back and win the game, 2-1.
Down 3-0 for the second straight series, the Thunderbirds decide to wake up and play hockey, going up 2-0 early and never giving up the lead, winning the game 4-2.
Back in Portland for the 5th game, it looked to be over after 20 minutes, when Portland was leading 4-0. However, Seattle doesn't go down without a fight, scoring 2 in the second and 1 in the third, bringing it to 4-3. Seattle keeps fighting, but can't find the last goal as Portland scores on an empty net to win the game 5-3 and the series 4-1.
Portland would go on to win the WHL Playoffs, beating Prince Albert 4-2 in the finals. However, they finished 3rd in the Memorial Cup, hosted by Kelowna, who finished 4th.

Preview of Coming Attractions
For the US boys, they are biding their time until they get to college, but the lone professional is tearing it up
For those north of the border, all 6 are making their marks in the CHL. We have 3 in the WHL, 2 in the OHL and 1 in the Q.
The rest, our overseas guys, are waiting to be drafted into the NHL. We have one that awaits to play in the CHL, but most importantly, we have 2 guys that have played internationally.
And will Seattle keep up the good work this year?

OHL Draft
With the 18th pick in the 1st Round, Erie selects....
D Trevor Johnson, London Jr. Knights
Johnson has came a long way since his younger days, when he didn't care about his own end. However, he is still an excellent offensive player, and should see immediate time on the top PP unit for Erie. He has a great slapshot, but needs some work on his pokechecking and checking skills as well, two important things for the defensive end.

um.....pretend this pick came first, lol
With the 5th pick in the 1st round, Mississauga selects....
RW John Williams, Toronto Marlboros
While Toronto soured on him early in the season, they finally played him in the second half and he proved that he knows how to play this game. He has a lot of work to do, but Mississauga did their homework and has seen the flashes of brilliance that he displayes. However, it will take some fine coaching to get those flashes out of him more often.

With the 6th Pick in the 1st Round, Acadie Bathurst selects...
G Nicolas Fillion, Gatineau L'Intrepide
Falling to the 6th pick is a crying shame, as goaltenders like this don't come along every day. Acadie will become a top team because of his excellent talent. Fillion is very technically sound, moreso than some goaltenders much older than him. There's not much else to say about him, just that he will win many, many games by himself.

Offseason 2007
Because we traded last year's 1st round pick for the rights to Andrew Baerg, our first pick comes toward the end of the 2nd round. We pick up some depth on the wings and in the net, but nobody that stands out like some of our players from next year.
I miss out on the Import Draft, and the computer picks up a couple of terrible guys for us that I won't sign.
Of course, our first three moves are to sign D Frank Justice, LW Travis Elkin and C Andrew Baerg. Justice will see some time on the top 2 defensive pairs and on the special teams as well. Elkin is really liked by our scouts and our coach, who thinks that he can be a 2nd line winger who will play a solid two-way game. Baerg is the least developed of the three, so he'll see some time on the third line, but I think he'll fit perfectly there with some more experienced players. We bring in a couple more players to help give us some depth in Washington in case of injuries.
Chris Durand and Bretton Stamler are loaned out to the Avalanche and Red Wings respectively. However, we expect them back, so we are stuck with 4 overagers in those two, G Gavin McHale and D Scott Jackson. We expect the latter two to play all of the time, so Durand and Stamler to alternate games, with McHale and Jackson getting a few games off.
With the lack of talent up the middle past talented Colton Gillies, we acquire Zac Boychuk from Kelowna, but we have to give up solid D-man Thomas Hickey, along with a 4th round pick, to get the deal done. Boychuk has underachieved in the past two years, but I think we have the talent to put around him, so that he will flourish.
We make another trade, right before the start of the season, picking up D Ty Johns from Moose Jaw for G Linden Rowat and a 6th round pick. Johns will give us some more depth on the blue line, especially on the PK.
Here's the opening day roster:

58 is one ugly number for a center. :-) I'm looking forward to teaming up on a line with Elkin at some point and tearing up the WHL.

2007-08 FOFC Season Overview
USA:
LW: AJ Tucker - St. Louis Jr. Blues
Tucker still doesn't know what he wants to do, as he seems ready for college now, but he has to wait a couple years. He'll continue to play with Colton Mayes for now, but we'll see what happens
MY NOTE: It's saying that he wants to play Major Junior, but he was never drafted or ranked for any of the drafts, b/c i don't know which one he'd be eligable for. I went back and checked his stuff in the database editor and he should have been drafted. I hope this works out well.
C: Colton Mayes - St. Louis Jr. Blues
Mayes is starting to be hounded by college programs, trying to get Mayes to commit early. Michigan and Michigan State are the top two teams on his list, and I think it will be a dogfight between those teams to get a premier American center.
RW: Owen Hunter Jr. - NE Jr. B Huskies
Like Mayes, Hunter has Michigan on the top of his list, along with Wisconsin. Hunter is a goal-scoring machine who any program would love to have for at least one year.
LD: Jeff Riddle - Cedar Rapids (USHL)
Our first big move, as Riddle goes on to the USHL to get prepared for the college game a little better. Currently, he also has the Wolverines on the top of his list, along with Harvard. Riddle, who is very intelligent on the ice, would fit in nicely at an Ivy League school.
RD: Frank Justice - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
He'll get plenty of chatter later on.
G: Danny Wilson - Waterloo (USHL)
Like Riddle, his former teammate, Wilson takes his game to the USHL, where he hopes to get into a top tier school like Boston College. Waterloo might be the worst team in the league, so Wilson will be in for a long year.
Canada:
LW: Travis Elkin - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
C: Andrew Baerg - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
RW: John Williams - Mississauga IceDogs (OHL)
Williams has made the team as a 16-year old, where he'll play on the third line and hope to make a contribution to a solid team. He has the skills, he just needs to find a place to settle in and help him out.
LD: Trevor Johnson - Erie Otters (OHL)
Johnson makes the team, and will play on the top PP unit, but will start out on the 3rd defensive pairing. As he matures, he'll get some more even-strength time. However, he'll contribute immediately on the PP.
RD: Mike Tokunaga - Kootenay Ice (WHL)
Tokunaga is happy to be playing in the WHL, where the Ice feel like he'll be an immediate contributor. He's got an all-rounded game, and he'll see a little bit of time on the PP and the PK, along with 2nd line duty on even-strength.
G: Nicolas Fillion - Acadie-Bathurst Titans (QMJHL)
Starting out as a 16-year old in the Q is hard enough, but Fillion will be the starter for a decent team. Hopefully, he'll get some support from his teammates, but I feel that his outstanding talent will help this team play much better than they did last year.
World:
LW: Shane Lamb (SCO) - Cardiff Devils (ENL)
Lamb is still with the Devils for now, but he hopes that he can make it to the main English league next year. Currently, he will be putting up goal after goal for the 2nd level team.
C: K.N. Smith (FRE) - HC Morzine-Avoriaz
Smith is becoming outstanding, a spectactular player in the top French league. He's currently on the preliminary list for the French National Team, quite a feat for a 16-year-old player, no matter the country.
RW: Dean Hoo (AUS) - Sydney Bears
Aussie Hoo keeps up the good work in Sydney and is quickly becoming the best player on his team and becoming the top player in the league. If he keeps up the scoring pace, imagine an Aussie in the NHL.
LD: Radovan Dusek (SLV) - Slovan Jrs.
Dusek is picked up by an excellent junior club, where he hopes to continue his development for the year. After this, he is the only guy in the group that wants to play Canadian junior hockey. I think he'd fit in just fine with any team over here, hopefully our own Seattle team.
RD: Robert Hillier (ENG) - Dundee Stars
Robert goes back home to Scotland, where he will excel for the best team in the Scottish league. If he was homesick, going back home to an inferior league, will he be able to go to North America and play in the NHL?
G: Daniel Gothe (SWE) - Djurgardens IF
Gothe expects to start this season as a 16-year-old in the Swedish Elite League. If he can hold his own, he'll have much more experience in a couple of years, and the NHL will be calling his name.

um.....pretend this pick came first, lol
With the 5th pick in the 1st round, Mississauga selects....
RW John Williams, Toronto Marlboros
While Toronto soured on him early in the season, they finally played him in the second half and he proved that he knows how to play this game. He has a lot of work to do, but Mississauga did their homework and has seen the flashes of brilliance that he displayes. However, it will take some fine coaching to get those flashes out of him more often.
Nice, half hour drive from home, i dont have to move :D

Tucker will probably be in the OHL Draft if he's from the Midwest. You have to make sure he's not buried in the rankings like Ritschel was in mine (he wound up being the #3 pick in the NHL Draft regardless)

Since I'm a season ahead from this post, I'll be a little brief, but I still have some stats that I saved
Midseason Report - 2007-08
This is a team that's on fire!!! Through 37 games, we have 56 points and a 27-8-2 record, which is just amazing so far. The top pairing of Scott Jackson and rookie Frank Justice cannot be stopped. Jackson might be the best stay-at home defenseman and Justice is an excellent playmaker, and the J's seem to play well with each other. They have a combined 56 points and a combined +44 plus-minus.
On the offensive side, Taylor Procyshen is just putting pucks in the net left and right, with 29 goals, and Colton Gillies is right behind him with 25. Rookie Travis Elkin is setting everyone up on the 2nd line, as he has 28 assists so far, and Andrew Baerg is playing a solid two-way game. Justice, Elkin and Baerg are 3 reasons of why this team is playing as well as it is.

Also, the Swede's play w/the Finns, Russians and Czech's in 4 different tournaments throughout the year. However, I lost the rest of the stats and U-20 stats aren't automatically recorded. But, the Swedes took 3rd place in the World Juniors, which was won by Canada over the US.

Final Season Report
Since I lost all the stats, this won't be as good as it could be.
In January, we made a couple moves to help improve this team to win the league. We acquire C's Matt Hallick and Sanfred King from Brandon and a prospect for young winger Phil Gervais, who wasn't quite ready yet. With the abundance of players, Vancouver offers us a couple nice prospects and a 5th round pick for RW Patrick White, another young winger who was stuck down the depth charts.
We continued our fast pace and ended up winning the division easily, getting a record 101 points and a 49-20-3 record. Our three rookies continued their great pace and all ended up contributing nicely to our efforts. Taylor Procyshen ended up with 49 goals, but Colton Gillies leapfrogged him and ended up with 51. Gavin McHale contributed to this by playing well between the pipes.
We go into the playoffs as the favorites and take on Tri-City in the first round. After a split at home, we win the next three games easily and will take on Kootenay.
With all four of our WHL FOFC players in this game, this game has some bragging rights on the line. However, Seattle had the better team, and won this series 4-1, just like their last one.
In the semi-final, we take on Kamloops, who finished 4th in the B.C. division, but had just taken out 1st place Kelona and 2nd place Portland to get here. They continue their hot play, winning their first 3 games to put us on the brink of elimination. We win the next two, but our road to the championship ends in game 6.
Kamloops goes on to win the WHL, but finishes 3rd in the Memorial Cup.

Offseason 2008
Well, the first order of business occurred actually before the season was over, and that was the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft, where I'll draft players for the 2009-10 season, very weird. With the best record in the league, I had the last pick in the draft. In the first round, we see an excellent goalie left on the board, and we pick Kealin Russell, who we feel can step in for us as a 16-year-old and start in net. The next round, we pick LW/C Calvin Groleau, who has an excellent two-way game, someone who is great 5-5, PP and the PK. Bradley O'Connor, our third round pick can be described the same way, but he's a defenseman. We feel that these 3 players were excellent selections and we had what I feel was our 2nd best draft so far.
For the CHL Import Draft, there is only 1 FOFC'er that is ranked, which is the only one interested in playing over in the CHL. Radovan Dusek is ranked 40th, and we feel that we might have a chance at him. We have a very late pick, 57th, but Dusek is taken 24th by Val d'Or of the QMJHL, so we cannot even trade for him. So, we select D Michal Pavlis, a solid Czech defenseman. For our 2nd pick, we go off the board and hope that we can convince a FOFC player to play for us. Since we lack the goal scoring power, we select Dean Hoo, the flashy Aussie, and hope to bring him aboard.
Since we have a few guys that will be overagers (D Eli Grossman, C Bud Holloway, D Greg Scott, RW Taylor Procyshen, and LW Tyson Papalia), we decide to move a couple. We send Grossman to Medicine Hat for a player who was released and a 5th round pick. Then we send Papalia to Moose Jaw for a 2nd round pick.
With the loss of G Gavin McHale, as we hope he goes on to bigger and better things, we really need a goalie. This is the time I wish I could suit up my first round pick this year, but we can't. The current guys that we have on our team or rights to aren't good enough to play at all, even as a backup. Our goal is to try and trade for a good goalie, and see what happens from there. We look around and find that Regina has really soured on their first round pick from '07, G Lenny Rooney. It looks like he'll still be a good goalie, just not as good as the Pats thought. So they propose to ship Rooney and a 14th round pick for our 5th rounder, which is a deal that we can't pass up, so Rooney comes aboard.
July hits, and we can start signing our players, and we get two pieces of bad news. We find out why Regina was so easy to ship off Rooney, as Lenny decides to decline our offer to bring him on the team this year, which leaves us in the dark for a goalie. Our 2nd piece of bad news was expected, and that is Dean Hoo doesn't want to come over to the WHL. We hope he'll reconsider next year. We bring in some of our guys from the 06 and 07 drafts, such as Al Belanger, but we feel it will be for depth only, as our 07 draft was pretty weak in both quality and quantity.
We finally look around for some goalies that might have been released and come upon Daniel Spence. Spence played for Calgary for the past 4 years and played pretty well. We feel that he will help us out some, but he will result in us having 4 overage players, so Bud Holloway will be playing in Washington and be called up as needed.
However, we get a big surprise in training camp, when Lenny Rooney decides that he'll play for us this season and comes aboard. Our goaltending goes from a weakness to a strength. Spence will start out, but Rooney has a chance to beat him out.

Sadly, you'll be stuck at St. Louis for a little while, as I have NO idea why you haven't been drafted or colleges going after you. I checked the starting database again, and everything looks ok. Also, you'll be in the 2nd wave of NHL draftees, so you'll be stuck dominating for a while.

Yeah, with you and Andrew, I can't get any consistency out of you two. I don't know why it is, I'm actually in about February right now of the coming season and its still the same. 2008-09 FOFC Season Overview
USA:
LW: AJ Tucker - St. Louis Jr. Blues
Tucker is still in the black hole of hockey, as I'm still amazed that the OHL didn't draft him or sign him. However, he'll have one more year of Mayes by his side, but it won't matter when Colton leaves, AJ is talented enough
C: Colton Mayes - St. Louis Jr. Blues
Mayes decided his future and will be donning the Maize and Blue, playing for Michigan next year. He only wished that Tucker would just say 'screw the OHL' and decide to come with him. For now, lets see if Mayes can get 300 points in about 60 games.
RW: Owen Hunter Jr. - NE Jr. B Huskies
Hunter could have joined Mayes next year and been Mayes' Tucker, but he decides to become a Badger and will play for Wisconsin next year. Hunter does nothing but put the puck in the next, evidenced by his almost 10:1 goal to assist ratio last season. Lets see if he can average a hat trick this season.
LD: Jeff Riddle - Cedar Rapids (USHL)
Riddle had an excellent season in the USHL and hopes to keep it up this year before he gets drafted into the NHL. I didn't expect him to put up that many points last season, but he is a true playmaker, something that the NHL scouts really like.
RD: Frank Justice - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
Justice has became a top prospect after an excellent rookie season in the WHL, where he played about 23 minutes a game for the best team in the league. Not a slacker in his own end, but he prides in being one of the top PP QB's in the WHL. With his linemate Scott Jackson heading to bigger and better things, Justice becomes the top dog in Seattle.
G: Danny Wilson - Waterloo (USHL)
Wilson was hung out to dry by his teammates this year and he didn't like it at all, and he let his teammates know it. We'll see if they get the wake up call and go to bat for Danny, or if they turn it around and just fold even quicker this year. For Danny's NHL prospects, we hope its the former.
Canada:
LW: Travis Elkin - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
Elkin had a nice rookie season, getting his feet wet in the WHL, but I expect more out of Travis in terms of a two-way game, as he seemed to be afraid to make a big play. He'll be seeing top 6 minutes this year, so he'll get his chance to shine.
C: Andrew Baerg - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
Andrew had the weakest debut of the three Seattle players, but it still wasn't that bad as he was playing more 4th line minutes than anything, due to our depth. Like Travis though, Baerg should see some top 6 minutes this year, and expects to have a better impact.
RW: John Williams - Mississauga IceDogs (OHL)
I don't know of a team that can kill a kid's confidence like this one. Williams wasn't able to stick with any linemates for too long, and couldn't find his rhythm playing on the 4th line, which led to him going 67 games without scoring a goal. They better do something about this for the coming year.
LD: Trevor Johnson - Erie Otters (OHL)
Johnson showed Erie why he's excellent on the PP, and he slowly developed the game in his own end. Erie is able to hide this by pairing him with a defensive defensman, and Johnson is able to make a solid contribution.
RD: Mike Tokunaga - Kootenay Ice (WHL)
Tokunaga plays a similar game to Johnson, but is more responsible in his own end. Mike made a great debut with Kootenay, but he's expected to log more minutes this season, and we'll see if he can keep his good start up.
G: Nicolas Fillion - Acadie-Bathurst Titans (QMJHL)
Fillion made a great start in the Q, contending for the rookie of the year award. He helped AB play very well and get into the semi-finals, and he hopes he can get them to the Memorial Cup this season.
World:
LW: Shane Lamb (SCO) - Cardiff Devils (ENL)
Still no movement with Lamb, which is sad to see. Hopefully, he'll make his way overseas and play in NA very soon.
C: K.N. Smith (FRE) - HC Morzine-Avoriaz
Smith has been all around the world this year, playing for the French National Team. He is hoping to get his first goal, and help the French get into the coming Olympics. Oh yeah, he does have a club team as well.
RW: Dean Hoo (AUS) - Sydney Bears
Deciding against coming to Seattle, Hoo will stay in Australia for at least one more year, before he makes his move. Hoo hopes to make his game a little more well rounded, but will hope to keep up his goal a game pace.
LD: Radovan Dusek (SLV) - Slovan Jrs.
Dusek wasn't signed by his junior team, which is depressing, but I feel that Duesk is on the verge of breaking out. He'll get some more national exposure in the WJC's and try to get his Slovakian team to the championship.
RD: Robert Hillier (ENG) - Guildford Flames (EPIHL)
More travelling for Hillier, as he goes back to England, but will be playing for the level below the best league. Robert wants to make it back to the EIHL, but he will need to prove it first.
G: Daniel Gothe (SWE) - Djurgardens IF
Gothe holds his own in his first year as a starter in the top Swedish league, while finding time to play in the WJC's, along with other tourneys. He's excited for his future, which we all know involves the NHL.

Actually, everyone not listed there, such as Lamb, aren't eligible in 2009, they have to wait another year. So i'm sure the scouts will find their way to Scotland next year ;)

Midseason 2008-09
Another great start for Seattle, as we already have a 12 point lead over Portland halfway through the season, and sitting as the best team in the league. Great contributions come from our new top D pairing, which is Frank Justice and Ales Cech, whose game seems to have been elevated by playing with Justice. Our top forward line of Richard, Gillies and Procyshen is really tearing it up as well.
We had one little hickup in November, where we lost 3 of 4, and our center Zac Boychuk, put up 2 absymal performances, including the first '1' rating I've ever seen. We can't deal with someone who is as talented as Boychuck putting up performances like that, so we ship him out to Swift Current for a 1st round pick in the '09 draft.
A couple of weeks later, we find ourselves a little thin on the D, so we pick up Spenser Lockhart from Saskatoon for a 6th round pick. I know when we make the playoffs, every bit of depth will help, so this deal will help us now and later.
Right before the deadline in the beginning of January, we pick up LW Jason Grecia for Joshua Schappart, a solid player for our minor league team and a 6th round pick. Grecia is a good two-way forward who I think will really help our third line out.
WJC Update
Gothe and Dusek are back for their 2nd tours of this tournament, but we have a new addition in G Nicolas Fillion, who will be Canada's 3rd string goalie and won't see any time unless injuries occur.
The Swedes and Slovaks see themselves sneak in as the 3rd best in their pools, and both get knocked out in OT by the Russians and Swiss. Canada gets the bye and defeats the Russians, and the Swiss upset the Americans in the semis. Canada crushes the Swiss to win it all, and the Russians take the bronze.

The first round of the playoffs finds us playing Spokane, who we surprisingly had trouble with a little bit throughout the season. This shows as we split the first 4 games between us, but we wake up and win the next 2 to win the round.
The second round has us facing Portland, which ended up a little easier than we had anticipated, as we went up 3-0, and ended up winning the series 4-1.
Back in the Western Conference finals for the 2nd time in the past 3 years, we have to face an excellent team in Prince George, so it should be a tough battle. We split at home, but PG takes two games at their place, to put us down 3-1. We win the 5th game at Seattle, but lose in PG to fall out of the playoffs again and lose 4-2.
PG goes on to win it all and becomes the first WHL team in my tenure to win the Memorial Cup, as they defeat Nicolas Fillion and his Acadia-Bathurst Titans.

2009 NHL Draft
The Detroit Red Wings won the lottery, and as the 2nd worst team in the league, they have the #1 pick and select John Tavares, a playmaking C in the CHL.
Fast forward to #10....
With the 10th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks select....
D Robert Hillier, Guildford Flames (EPIHL)
Hillier's stock rose faster than any other player in this draft, mostly because nobody heard of the kid until the secret of the British player got out. He's more of a project than most draftees, but he has a huge frame, and isn't afraid to hit people, two things that can't be taught.
TurnerONU22

With the 15th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres select....
C Colton Mayes, Michigan
The Sabres got a steal in Mayes, who was projected to be in the top-10, but some other guys snuck in, pushing Colton down. The Michigan freshman is an excellent playmaker, probably the most creative player in this draft.

With the 23rd pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins select....
RW Owen Hunter Jr., Wisconsin
Nicknamed the "Goalie Hunter", Owen knows how to get the puck in the net. His stock has slowly been rising as teams have noticed his scoring touch, which is seemingly unstoppable. Pittsburgh hopes that his time in college will help round out his game and prepare him for the NHL.
TurnerONU22
03-04-2006, 11:53 AM
With the 26th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Columbus Blue Jackets select....
G Daniel Gothe, Djurgardens IF
Gothe falls right into the CBJ's lap late in the 1st round. Compared to Martin Brodeur, Gothe has all the tools to be a top goalie in the NHL for years to come. He comes into a great situation as the Jackets have a lack of goalie prospects in the system, and will probably have Gothe come over soon to play in Syracuse.

With the 31st pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Florida Panthers select....
D Jeff Riddle, Michigan
Complaining about being overlooked before the draft, Riddle almost sneaks himself into the first round. Florida will be impressed by this two-way defenseman who will be getting ready for the NHL w/Colton Mayes at the UofM.

With the 57th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Florida Panthers select....
RW John Williams, Mississauga IceDogs
Williams is an interesting prospect, as he started off very poorly in the OHL, but seemed to turn it around last year, putting up some respectable numbers in his 2nd season. He's a good overall player, with no real flaws. Good pick.
TurnerONU22
03-04-2006, 12:04 PM
With the 68th pick in the NHL Draft, the Nashville Predators select....
LW Travis Elkin, Seattle Thunderbirds
Very similar to Williams, Elkin has had a rough start to his junior career. Also, Travis plays a similar game to John, so I think they'll both start to breakout very soon. Elkin likes to set up everyone around him, and Nashville will really love that, as they could use some setup men.
TurnerONU22
03-04-2006, 12:07 PM
With the 78th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Minnesota Wild select....
C Andrew Baerg, Seattle Thunderbirds
Baerg is a very interesting prospect, as most are that are selected around this time. He hasn't been able to find top line minutes in Seattle, playing behind some excellent players as Colton Gillies. He has a good enough game that once he finds that top line, I think you'll see why he's a 3rd round pick.
TurnerONU22
03-04-2006, 12:11 PM
With the 86th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Columbus Blue Jackets select....
D Radovan Dusek, Slovan
Dusek is a good player, a very hard hitter that will punish people on the defensive end. With international experience, Dusek has played against the best young guys in the world and held his own. With Gothe selected earlier, the CBJ's have two great steals.
TurnerONU22
03-04-2006, 12:13 PM
With the 91st selection in the 2009 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders select....
RW Dean Hoo, Sydney
For a guy who was projected to be undrafted, Hoo finds himself almost in the 3rd round. Also, what a fit for a guy playing on a BIG island in Australia is now going to the Islanders. They hope he can round out his defensive game, because he has the deadliest wrister in the draft.

Offseason 2009
After being depressed about how the season ended, I pondered about keeping my head coach, Rob Sumner, around, but in the end, I decided that I would give him one last shot.
We have the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft coming up, with 2 picks in the first and second rounds. Our first pick is Harvey Sanderson, a solid two-way defenseman who has the potential to replace Frank Justice in a couple of years. Our second pick is Sandy West, a goal-scoring centerman who has been compared to Mike Fisher, a solid centerman for the Panthers. In the second round, we select Leo Dubuc and Laine Onarati, two wingers who can play solid two-way games. In the third round, we select Kay Foote, a huge winger who's not afraid to go in front of the net.
In the 2009 CHL Import Draft, we have another late pick, so we look to make some interesting selections. In the first round, we select Fabricio Serna, a goal scoring winger out of Mexico. Yes, this is a stretch, but Serna has plenty of talent and I think he could make the NHL. Our second pick goes to someone who probably won't come over, but we select Shane Lamb, from the EIHL and who was drafted by the NHL. We hope he wants to come over, but we don't expect it.
We have about 12 guys who are overagers, so we find deals for those who we don't plan to keep around, and we get draft picks back, with a couple of 2nd rounders being the best. We decide to keep Dave Richard and Colton Gillies, two excellent forwards and Ales Cech, who will keep playing w/Justice. We also keep Kyle Severson incase any of these guys get hurt or are signed into the NHL.
Our two biggest signings are Kealin Russell, our first round draft pick from last year, and Fabricio Serna, our first round import pick. Russell will compete w/Lenny Rooney for time in the net, and Serna has a shot at the top three lines.
We go into training camp with hope for another good season, and we think we have another shot at winning the President's Cup

2009-10 FOFC Season Overview
USA:
LW: AJ Tucker - St. Louis Jr. Blues
On his own for this year, AJ Tucker is getting geared up for the NHL Draft this year. While not having the luxury of showing off his talents against the college or junior ranks, AJ will still be selected pretty high.
C: Colton Mayes - Michigan
Along with Jeff Riddle, Mayes joins the Wolvereines and will center their top line as a freshman. We'll see how long Mayes is there for, as Buffalo has him on their radar.
RW: Owen Hunter Jr. - Wisconsin
On the top line as a freshman, Hunter hopes to bring his scoring punch to the college game. The Badgers hope that he can round out his game while he's here, getting him ready for the NHL
LD: Jeff Riddle - Michigan
Joining Mayes is Riddle, another draftee who might only play one season in Michigan. He'll let his presence known on the top defensive pairing, logging quality minutes as a freshman.
RD: Frank Justice - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
Justice is a top 20 prospect in the NHL season, and he becomes the captain of this Seattle team, trying to get them over the hump. He'll do this with the help of Ales Cech, his linemate again this season.
G: Danny Wilson - Boston College
After another subpar season in the USHL, Wilson will get better defensive support at BC, where he hopes to show off his excellent goaltending skills. Wilson is excited to see where he is going in the NHL.
Canada:
LW: Travis Elkin - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
Elkin underachieved again in his second season, but the NHL scouts still see the talent that Elkin has. Elkin will see even more minutes this year and hopefully will have his breakout season.
C: Andrew Baerg - Seattle Thunderhawks (WHL)
I'm not sure whats wrong with Baerg's game, but it seems to not be fitting in well with our team. Baerg continues to work hard, and with his future in the NHL a little more cemented, we hope Baerg has a breakout season as well.
RW: John Williams - Guelph Storm (OHL)
Finally, a team that is sold on Williams, which has boosted his confidence. He'll be put on the top line and allowed to develop into the player that everyone knows that he can become. We all hope he takes full advantage of it.
LD: Trevor Johnson - Erie Otters (OHL)
Johnson really evolved in his second season and his defensive game is starting to come into form. He'll be in the top pairing for 5 on 5 and the PP, and he'll even see some PK time this season. Johnson hopes that he can be a first round pick this season.
RD: Mike Tokunaga - Kootenay Ice (WHL)
Tokunaga will see many minutes this coming season as he hopes to get his team back into the playoffs. If his team would put some talent around him, then they would have that chance.
G: Nicolas Fillion - Acadie-Bathurst Titans (QMJHL)
Fillion found his way to the WJC's last season, and while he didn't play, expect him to get some games in this time around. He led his Titans to the Q championship and finished 2nd in the Memorial Cup.
World:
LW: Shane Lamb (SCO) - Belfast Giants (EIHL)
Finally, Lamb gets a shot with the top English league and we hope after this season, he'll come over and play for Seattle. For now, he'll get his game ready for the NHL.
C: K.N. Smith (FRE) - HC Morzine-Avoriaz
The prospects don't look good for the French to make it to the Olympics, but he'll keep playing internationally. The scouts really love that experience, and they think he'll be a top round pick this year.
RW: Dean Hoo (AUS) - Sydney Bears
Hoo still won't make his way over to the US yet, even though he has been drafted. For now, this Aussie continues to round out his game and has easily become the best player in his league.
LD: Radovan Dusek (SLV) - Slovan
Dusek is ready for a full season in the top Slovakian league, and we'll see how soon the Blue Jackets are ready to bring him over for some full time action in the NHL.
RD: Robert Hillier (ENG) - Sheffield Steelers(EIHL)
Finally, Robert makes it back to the EIHL, but with the Steelers this time. He can't wait to hit some people he hasn't seen in a while, and show them how he has grown into a man.
G: Daniel Gothe (SWE) - Djurgardens IF
The Blue Jackets are excited about this goalie, who has plenty of international experience, along with his games in the top Swedish league. Gothe hopes to wrestle the WJC title away from Canada this year.

Hopefully Baerg can get some more ice time this year and step up his game a bit. I gotta start getting more points if I'm ever going to succeed in the Twin Cities for the Wild.

My plan for the future of this dynasty is to stay with Seattle until everyone moves out of juniors and into the NHL. Then, I'll try to apply for the first NHL job, but if I can't, then I'll go for an AHL job and go from there.
Coming up......the most exciting WJC i've seen.

2009-10 Midseason Report
We had a slow start to our first 10 games, going 5-5, but we really turned it on after that and put some streaks together and sit atop the US Division with a record of 28-13.
C Sanfred King is having an amazing season, with 32 goals and 37 assists in just 41 games, 3rd in goals, 6th in assists and 4th in points in the league. Our other biggest surprise is RW Fabricio Serna, our Mexican winger who has 21 goals, easily on pace to shatter the Seattle rookie record. We're seeing good contributions from the pairing of Justice and Cech, along with Travis Elkin establishing himself as a playmaker, averaging almost a point a game.
In October, we made a couple moves to improve the roster. LW Armand Pinard is an excellent two way player from Lethbridge, but it cost us a top-4 defender in Spenser Lockhart and a 5th round pick. Our other pickup came from Prince Albert as we picked up Jordan McCauley, an excellent two-way defenseman, but it cost us three mid round picks, along with a couple of decent prospects.
After the WJC was over, we made some moves right before the trading deadline, picking up some quality players. First, Moose Jaw expresses interest in RW Preston MacInnis, who has been stuck in Washington for us. We get three depth players for him, Aaron Manderville, Wade Roy, and Jarrid St. Laurent. These three guys are mostly along incase we have any injuries, and maybe one of these guys will flourish on our team.
To improve our defensive corps, we pick up Proulx Desormeaux, a stay-at-home d-man from Saskatoon, and we only had to give up Curtis Barbour, a Washington stalwart and a 5th round pick. Patrick Wiercoich is our other defensive pickup, costing us a 3rd round pick going to Medicine Hat.
Another pickup is RW Stacey Schwabe, a punshing forward who will help us get a little tougher. We got him, along with a 3rd round pick for D Rob Fleming, who is a good prospect, and a 5th round pick.
However, what I believe was our biggest pickup was RW Kory Palmateer, a former #2 pick from Regina, yet another high pick that fell out of favor there (Lenny Rooney was the other). We shipped them three solid prospects, that hadn't cracked our roster in Felice Nixon, Eric Clancy and Michael Bowler, a centerman and two defensemen. Palmateer will immediately find himself into the top six and he is only 17!

World Junior Championships 2009-10
Group A: Denmark, Slovenia, Sweden, U.S.A., Ukraine
Group B: Canada, Hungary, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland
Day 1:
Group A: Swedes beat US 2-1 and Ukraine beats Slovenia 3-1
Gothe stops 26 of 27 shots and the Swedes get a goal with 5 minutes left in the 3rd period to win the game. Gothe gets an 8 rating and all 3 US guys end up with sevens, but no points.
Group B: Canada defeats Russia 5-3 and Hungary beats Slovakia 3-2
Williams has a 5 rating and only plays 8 minutes. Dusek has an 8 rating, puts in 25 minutes and ends up +1
Day 2:
Group A: Denmark beats Slovenia 3-1 and Ukraine upsets US 5-0
The US team was only down 1-0 with 15 minutes left, but gave up 4 goals in 8 minutes. Riddle put in 25 minutes and a -1. Mayes was alright with 22 minutes and a 0. Hunter Jr. had a disappointing effort, a 5 rating in 20 minutes with a 0.
Group B: Canada beats Slovakia 5-3 and the Swiss win 3-2 over Hungary
Canada gets up 3-0 early and controls the rest of the game. Williams only plays 9 minutes again, but Dusek plays very will for the Slovaks in the loss. He puts in 23 minutes and gets an assist, and is only a -1.
Day 3:
Group A: US beats Denmark 4-1 and Sweden beats Ukraine 2-1
A breakout day for the FOFC'ers. Hunter gets the US on the board first, and then five minutes later sets up Riddle, who sets up a teammate on the PP. Riddle scores the last goal, which is assisted by Hunter on the PP as well. Both end up w/3 points and +3 for Riddle and +2 for Hunter who is the first star and Riddle is the 2nd star. Mayes doesn't get any points, but is a +2.
Gothe's play allows the Swedes to get another third period goal for the win. He stops 27 of 28 shots to get Sweden its 2nd win.
Group B: Canada slips by the Swiss 4-3 and Russia beats Slovakia 4-2
Fillion gets a start in net, and after letting up an early goal, plays very well. He stops 36 of 39 shots in the game, making key saves in a 1 goal game. Williams plays 12 minutes and is a +1.
Dusek has a poor game as he ends up a -3. All 6 goals were scored in the third with the two Slovakian goals sandwiched around pairs of goals by the Russians.
Day 4:
Group A: Sweden beats Denmark 4-1 and US ties Slovenia 3-3
Gothe lets in a softie 2 mins in, but thats it for the rest of the game, stopping 21 of 22 shots.
Mayes gets on the board finally, scoring only 4 minutes in with an assist from Hunter. Slovenia scores a goal in the first, second and midway through the third to go up 3-1. With 5 minutes left, Jordan McCarthy (Brampton) scores a PP goal assisted by Mayes and Riddle to make it a one goal game. With 3 minutes left, on another power play, Mayes scores his 2nd of the night to tie the game up and salvage a point for the Americans.
Group B: Canada crushes Hungary 5-1 and Russia beats Switzerland 3-2
Williams puts in 4 minutes of time for the Canadians and that's it.
Day 5:
Group A: Ukraine ties Denmark 3-3 and Sweden crushes Slovenia 6-1
Gothe lets up another early goal and then gets down to business, stopping 16 of 17 shots.
Group B: Russia beats Hungary 2-1 and Switzerland defeats Slovakia 5-4
Dusek has another subpar game, logging 25 mins and ending up with a -2 as the Slovakian team blows a 2 goal lead in the third to lose.

Two big things that I notice:
1. The US comeback against Slovenia and tie 3-3 is what got them into the playoffs, as that point tied them with Denmark, who they had defeated.
2. Switzerland's comeback against Slovakia was huge, as there would have been a three way tie for third, with each team going 1-1 against the other two. I don't know who would have came out the winner in that mess.
Playoffs:

Ukraine vs. Switzerland

Preliminary Round
Russia defeats US 4-2
The US gets on the board early, with the goal assisted by Hunter, 2 minutes in. The Russians fire right back, scoring 2 more in the first, and one in the second. The US keeps fighting in the 3rd, and with 5 minutes left, Hunter scores on the PP, assisted by Mayes and Riddle. However, this is where the road ends for the US as the Russians pot an empty netter to win 4-2.
Switzerland defeats Ukraine 3-1

Semifinal Round
Canada defeats Russia 4-3 in a shootout
Williams gets 10 minutes in this exciting game, where the Canadians had to score with 5 minutes left to send the game into overtime, where they scored 3 SO goals to 2 for Russia.
Sweden defeats Switzerland 4-1
Gothe and the Swedes continue their great play, as they crushed the Swiss, and Gothe played good as well, stopping 13 of 14 shots.

Final
Sweden vs. Canada
What a great matchup we have here, with the highest scoring team (17) in the round robin, Canada, going against the team allowing the least amount of goals (4).
The first period was a period of feeling out each other. Neither team did anything special and there was a lot of dumping and chasing. Each team had a PP, and did nothing with it. However, Canada went on the PP with 40 seconds left in the period, so they have a carryover. Both goalies look good so far, making key saves. Shots are 11-10 in favor of Canada
The second period saw Canada on the PP and they went to work fast. They set two men up in front of the goal to screen Daniel Gothe and it worked, as Chad Suer scored from a shot from the point that Gothe never saw. With the 1-0, they kept the pressure on for most of the second, putting 15 shots on the board. However, Gothe stopped them all. Shots are 26-18 in favor of Canada.
Going into the third, Canada started to play a conservative game, clogging up the neutral zone and forcing Sweden to have to make some plays. Sweden was able to break this during the middle of the period, and even managed a breakaway, but Nicolas Fillion was up to the task. The Swedes started firing everything at Fillion, but it did not work. With two minutes left, the Swedes went on the PP and twenty seconds in, they got a 5-3. They pulled their goalie to make it 6-3, and had 10 shots in the next 1:40, but Fillion made spectacular save one after another, having to pull out some awesome glovework to lead the Canadians to a WJC Championship!
Canada 1-0 Sweden
1st Star: G Nicolas Fillion - 38 saves on 38 shots
2nd Star: D Chad Suer - GWG
3rd Star: G Daniel Gothe - 32 saves on 33 shots
What an amazing game, and truly one of the best goaltending battles I've seen. Lets hope that both Fillion and Gothe will stick around for one more year and have a rematch.
