Last night, since the olympics preempted all of the good Thursday night shows, I was forced with a difficult decision:
a) watch the olympics
b) pour hot bacon grease on my nipples
I went with b.

Both summer and winter olymics are totally unwatchable to me.
I actually watched the play by play of the Womens curling event yesterday, as it wasn't aired live. Yep.... pretty sad.

That snowboard race the other night was kind of cool. Now that's an event I like.
None of this judging crap. Barrel down the hill pushing each other like men.

If they had US v. Al Queda in curling, I'd watch it in a second.

I wanted to see that. Now that looked awesome. Thats the event where 4 of them were going downhill at once, it looked like an even taken right from a video game. They should've given them weapons.

Both teams should be allowed to hide a bomb in one of their rocks. If the other teams hits it...BOOM! Automatic disqualification (and death, of course).

normally i am a huge gung ho spaz for the olympics, but for some reason this year i am not quite as into them...i cant stand the tape delay nonsense, its too hard to avoid any knowledge of what has already happened, so the actual broadcasts at night are pretty anti climatic

The one thing the snowboard cross was missing, and you nailed it.
Sports I'd like to see:
1. Downhill Skiing Relay (with mid-mountain exchanges)
2. Biathalon with Bears (Some days you get the bear...)
3. Snowboard Bowling Downhill (Time penalty for pins left standing.)
rkmsuf

They should include some kind of laser tag-like component to the biathalon.
And bears.

They also need those large swinging pendulums for the downhill races too. Not only do they have to be fast, but they have to time it right or they just get worked by a large pendulum, like "terry tating" them across the slope.

Waiting for the USSR judges votes on the US athletes used to be a highlight. Just not the same anymore.

I think I'd care about it if they did four things:
1) Eliminate any sport where a judge has to award a score based on subjective opinion.
2) Eliminate all background stories on athletes.
3) Televise every event they choose to cover from start to finish. Do they really think you can televise football by showing three minutes of the second quarter, the second-half kickoff and the last five minutes of the fourth quarter?
4) Televise everything live as much as humanly possible.
The packaged crapfest we get today is utterly unwatchable. I'm quite disappointed the other networks have chosen to abandon new programming this week and next. I wish it were baseball season so there'd be something to watch in the evening.

I care for the sports of winter much more than I do than the summer ones but like nearly every single televised sports events, they have rendered them unwatchable. Also with X games type shit just to boost ratings, the games have become a parody of itself. The Games itself do have meaning but it should not be pushed to the mass market but just play them better to the niche market, much like what hockey has done.

They need more sports where death is on the line.
But then the Sicilians would always win.

SII'll have to check that thread out when the Olympics are over. I've been watching curling, and honestly, have found it to be pretty interesting.
Overall, I much prefer the Winter games to the Summer games. I've been recording pretty much everything but hockey, and trying to skip through the figure skating, but have tried to watch at least part of everything else.

Not since they started faking their coverage.
Now that everything is taped delayed, Hell, the Winter games from Salt lake were not even show live, it really takes all the suspense out of watching the games. The announcers arer always correct, because they are anouncing an event that has already taken place. Watching a short piece on some unknown athlete means that when he competes later in the show he somehow wins the gold. Now days Its all staged.
They film everything and just put the pieces together after the events have occured. If the anouncers are explaing how the Loser's bracket works before the US team goes on, bet your house that the US loses and goes to the Loser's bracket.

Winter olympics sucks balls (outside of men's hockey, that is)...
Isn't that part of the men's figure skating judging (ball-sucking)?
Actually, all this X-Game craop has ruined it for me. I like the normal skiiing events, the speed skating, the hockey, the bobsled and the luge but when you start adding the X-Games crap and the lousy job of covering the events, than it goes downhill quickly.
Especially since that is what they have been putting on prime time. I would like to see some hockey and curling but that is on either in the veryearly moring or in the afternoon when I'm at work.

CNBC only shows Curling on in the early evening. Usually from 5-7, weekdays. USA shows it in late morning, early afternoon. It hasn't been in Primetime yet.

Take out the men's figure staking, the curling and it has potential. I like the snowboarding events that have been added recently. The interviews with snowboard athlete's is a great insight to the slacker mentality of youth today.
