OT: Pink....Stupid Girl video

I applaud her, I applaud her 1000x. This is a video that I want to watch with my nieces.

Basically the video rips on Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, plastic surgery and the retail culture that is prevalent today. At the end, the little girl in the video turns off the tv and chooses between a football and some barbie dolls.....she makes the correct choice.

Now I don't believe that I'm some holier than thou snob...I like LL and JS as much as the next guy...I just loved the message of the video...

I think Pink made the right decision to drop out, her like turned out pretty well. It sucks the school won't celebrate the success of one of their own.

I understand your point, but I totally understand the district's stance: Pink was a drop-out and is a role model to a lot of kids, especially in that area. They COULD NOT back a person who dropped and succeeded, because the VAST majority who drop out don't succeed at that level. Not even remotely.

It is sad for Pink though, as it's not her fault that she was a success.

Ok, I'll play devil's advocate. For what reason could the school call her "one of their own"? And under what condition would she call the school she dropped out of "her own"? Is this like the George Washington Slept Here Syndrome?

Personally, there's plenty of role-models out there for girls other than Pink. I don't see someone being a positive role-model for women with large tattoos and piercings.

Then again, I don't think tattoos show off good common sense period, but that's just me.

I should say that I am not disgusted at the school's decision, it has some merit, but I think they can handle it better. I think that a school district's job to create people who are successfull at life, no matter how that turns out to be. Pink took music classes, art classes, chorus classes, etc, at the CB school district throughout her childhood. They helped every bit as much as science classes help an engineer. It just so happens that Pink went into a career where a high school degree is not needed.

Instead of keeping everyone secret that flaunted their ideal path and pretending they don't exist, they could do some educating on what the risks are.

Besides, the responsibility to keep kids in school doesn't fall to the SD, it ultimately falls to the parents. A kid at 18 is considered an adult, who can vote and go off to war. That kid is still probably going to make a ton of decisions, but if he/she thinks that he/she will be better off without a diploma for the time being...well, they're adults.

On one hand, she could've gone back and told them "Look, don't do what I did. Get your education and do your best. I wish I would've, who knows what else I could've done. Chase your dreams, but hit the books."

Well, burning couches don't show common sense either, but that doesn't make tattoos make any more sense.

<shrug>. I'm all for doing whatever you want to your own body -- hell, do what some do and hang from chains attached to their nipples. Again, that may make you feel unique, but it's still shows a complete lack of common sense. Couches have nothing to do with it.

But good try. Must be jealous that we win games and have something to cheer for. You must be a Pitt, Va Tech or Georgia fan. :-)
