As I enter my home-and-away showdown with Fancy Garlic Presses (I'm up 1 pt), I decided that I needed some more midfield. My midfield's mediocre (as far as ML goes), and Presses is a midfield-heavy team (relatively speaking). I'm going to lose possession, but wanted to be 55/45 rather than 65/35.

So I honed in on magical+ mids. Crazy wages, yes, but 300k extra a week times 8 weeks is 2.4M. I sold off a supernatural mid for 4.3M. So if I could buy a divine for around 3, wouldn't cost me tons, even with wages, for a major midfield upgrade.

And so I came across Scott Terrell.

27 years, excellent form, healthy

Stamina: excellent Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: divine Passing: inadequate
Winger: inadequate Defending: inadequate
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: weak

Exc form, divine mid, decent secondaries. Probably would be 9.5* or so for me (my current top mid gets 7*). And he's American, so the crazy wages wouldn't be boosted by 20% either.

Then I checked his memorable events:
3/26/2004 Gained his first cap as he debuts for the National A squad of USA.
12/29/2002 Was promoted from the youth squad in The Fancy Garlic Presses

For my showdown with Presses, I had a chance at his most illustrious youth pull. He only sold him June 2005, so the guy was trained by him for 2 1/2 years. (Also, one of the apparent positives of training a guy to wacky levels is that they're sold a ton. 14 sales in 8 months. 2% mother club each. 28% of total average sales price= close to $1M. But I digress.)

I had followed a few similar divines during the week. They were selling for around 2.8M or so. Some people were trying to daytrade them to HT Masters members. I figured that shouldn't make a huge difference: 100ish teams can't affect the market.

I was wrong. Bidding war started at around 2M. Some clear daytraders: some VI team in the Netherlands couldn't possibly benefit (nor afford) from a divine mid otherwise. Then it became 2 teams: myself and FC Teerlunge. Who the heck's that?

Series: # 1 in Bundesliga
Is participating in the Hattrick Masters.

Oh shi....

So as bidding passes 3M, I initiate the following HT-mail convo:

Shaolin: Bah, you need him for Master's, I need him for league...boo for bidding wars :)
Teerlunge: that's the way it seems to be :)
Shaolin: Yeah, not fun. Plus he's American, and was a former youth pull of my next opponent :). Oh well, good luck to whoever wins :)
Teerlunge: I leave him to you as I just bought another one for a few less bucks :) Good luck in your game :)
Shaolin: You too. :)

So I end up with Terrell for $3.23M. Teerlunge bought 2 different guys for 2.8M each, presumably to be sold once Masters is over. Terrell's wages are 300k, so I "save" 60k week over an identical foreign guy. Over 8 weeks, that makes up for the extra paid. And his exc. form is a plus too.

Masteryoda (Presses) saw that I was leading on him on Friday and left me the following guestbook message:

How apropot if you nab my old chap Scotty-boy and Terrillize me with him the next two matches!

So be it. Now to decide what lineup to use :)

Honestly, what are the chances that you would ever get a chance at something like that? It makes for an interesting story line for the week though.
