Plummer to Bengals?

Its very possible that Plummer can be very successful someday. However the team, and coach, that can help him take the next big step is not the bengals.

I think that would be a bad choice by both parties.

a report just said that the Broncos will look to grab Plummer out of free-agency.
That makes sense : he is the prototype west coast offense QB.
maybe he could thrive under Shanahan and Kubiak.

I swear to GodI posted my response about PLummer in a Bronco uni before I saw this! It was just a cool thought I'd had a week or so ago while chatting with some guys from work, but I never thought the Broncos would actually do it! That's so cool if the report is true!

Nothing, I love the Broncos! I think Plummer would be a great fit, he's just a guy that needs a change of scenery.

I just don't see Plummer being successfulas a starter at this point. Perhaps he can get it together and become another Rich Gannon, but I doubt it.

He's had plenty of opportunities at Arizona and he also has had some very solid talent on that team at various points of his career and he couldn't get it done.

He'd make a great backup who could come in and start if needed and keep the team afloat, but he's not a quality starter IMO.

I read somewhere on ESPN.com that the Raiders may try to trade up for the #1 draft pick to take Palmer as a future replacement for Gannon.

Thus, the Bengals would have to go free agency for a QB.

I think Plummer could be a quality QB if he ever played behind a real line.

I don't think that's a fair assessment of the word at all. Certainly, it can be used to show uncertainty of degree. But it doesn't have the stigma your professior has attached to it. The future is cloudy so we can't exactly see how good he will be. For anyone to say "mvp" or "franchise qb" along with the words "Jake Plummer" and without the words "time machine" and "here is documented proof" loses all credibilty to an argument. Judging by his history, there is no indication that he will be a great qb but it within the realm of possiblity that he could be a "very good" qb within the right system (see below).

A second consideration to this argument is that the phrase "very good" is in the sports lexicon as a cliche, the description befitting one who is not a superstar but a star. There were quite a few times early in Jake Plummer's career (and even a couple recently) that could lead to this conclusion.

So, in short, if your English Prof meant it in a derrogatory way, he's a dolt like those who believe the passive voice has no place and that every paper should be written within the formulaic intro-3 body paragraphs-closing structure.

With the Raiders being an NFL record $48 million OVER the cap right now, I don't see them in a position to make a trade.

And I think Plummer would be a quality QB if he threw to the right team. I think he will end up in a Bronco's uniform, or resign with the cardinals in the end.

I certainly agree that he's no hot commodity, but if you're looking to go the FA route, he probably has the best chance of becoming at least consistent enough to start for a while. I guess that isn't the most ringing endorsement. :(

I really don't think that the Bengals need a new QB. With the bad season that the Bengals had it was lost on many that Kitna has a solid season for Cincinati. Give him a good offensive line, and a solid defence and he can be a legitimate starter. He won't likly ever become a star but he can certainly lead the team.
