View Full Version : NonPOL - Our posts under Skydog control?

ISiddiqui
03-01-2006, 09:42 PM
Skydog has decided that it is ok for himself to have control of our posts. This seems to me to be a bad idea. I would object to any moderator in charge of that, and especially one from Georgia. And on the big thread I heard that WVUfan and Flasch both agree with me, so it's obviously not just an anti-Jesse view. Can someone explain to me why this is a good idea?

Sorry, I know the original thread was started a while back, but I had to after recent events.

I agree, esp. those taking my BS posts seriously. I view FOFC as a large bar/nightclub. You never know who's going to walk in and what debates/conversation/pissing matches will take place. A lot of times this becomes a place just to hang out after a long day at work and let loose.

I ran into this same problem with many of the Jon/Blackie fights in the past. No actual THREATS given, just what is an honest opinion of each other. they both really think that the world would be a better place if the other would cease to exist. Add that to the fact that it was a misunderstood parody, no action for now, but he (and others) need to back off. It was a lighthearted attempt at humor, so lighten up, Francises.

And, fwiw, Chubby, I HAVE suspended JIMGA in the past, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again in the future if I felt the post warranted it.

While I'm still rolling my eyes at SkyDog being a JimGA apologist here, I'm utterly amused to see me and SirFozzie in that list. Or me and Bill Clinton, for that matter.

I'm not sure if those could be two more opposite ends of the spectrum. :D

I'd put Chubby on the list but he's a Syracuse boy and I gotta love him like a brother.i almost put you on the list, but since it was purely a hypothetical list i didn't put that much thought into it.

i wasn't mocking Ben by the way, it's a legit question. Is the line legitimately there? Can I wish for people to die on the board but not wish actual threats on them and not get boxed?

I guess so as these events show...which I personally find curious considering the HNIC's RL occupation and religious leanings...

You keep responding to me, however. How have I not made your ignore list, dammit!

Or are you reading the threads even with me on your ignore list, in which case, WTF is the point!

Have no fear, you've been there for ages.

Now, as to how it happens that you end up seeing/reading a post from somebody who is on ignore, that's easy:
-- the most common way is that a post gets quoted by someone else & the ignoree's comment is pretty unavoidable
-- the second most common way is for an ignoree to post something in a thread / position that provides a high probability that they've said something so stupid that it'll be amusing (depending upon the reader's mood, the topic, etc).

Now, in the case of this thread, it's maybe a tiny bit of the second, but honestly it was really more of a "WTF is he talking about" reaction, since you were the thread starter. Rather than scratch my head over it, and eager for another distraction from the work that's driving me crazy right now, I clicked to see. And, as I would hope you've figured out by now, any attempt at parody was lost on me.

I genuinely felt that the post was largely serious, the general tone closely resembling your comments in the other thread than anything I recognized (i.e. I either missed or don't recall the thread you were trying to parody). It just looked like a oddly worded rehash of the same stuff from the "OMG Jesse" thread, so parody never entered my mind for a second.

Add that to the fact that it was a misunderstood parody, no action for now, but he (and others) need to back off. It was a lighthearted attempt at humor, so lighten up, Francises.

Lord knows I don't agree with his politics, but you are completely and utterly in the wrong on this one, Ben. You're being ridiculously inconsistent.

Actually, I believe we've discussed that before. Me & you do relatively fine (I think) as long as we steer clear of political shit. There's a very short list of people I know who I can actually manage that successfully with, but you're one of them. (I can think of exactly two "IRL", and that's a narrow run thing sometimes even with both sides trying & having motivation to try)

I'm occasionally amazed that we've managed it on here actually, but to date, we generally have IMO.

I think its cause neither of us tries to convert the other. We know we can argue till blue in the face, and it won't change a goddamn thing. So we don't even START the arguments.. wouldn't do us no good.

I know this is odd (and may get me boxed by SD) but ... I really dislike grits.
Food texture is a real biggie for me & those things just don't cut it.

But if I ever find myself in a situation where I absolutely have to eat them, I damn sure won't put sugar on 'em ;)

What the hell? Who puts sugar on their grits? That's disgusting. It's not oatmeal.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

As promised earlier, a history and instructional manual on grits:

Grits have been a part of our food history for almost 400 years or, almost as long as the Rolling Stones have been touring.

They date back to around 1607 when the colonists arrived in Jamestown, Va. There, they were met by friendly Native Americans offering what they called “rockahominie.” Rockahominie was softened maize seasoned with salt and animal fat.

The word maize translated into Latin means Waffleus-Houzus. Early prints show a man with a small white hat on his head, with a plate of grits and no sugar near him. It was here that our passion for grits was born.

Let’s go back for the sake of you who are from the North. How many times in the above paragraph did you see the word “sugar?” I believe ZERO.

Grits developed into a food that many families enjoyed not only for breakfast, but as a side dish for meals as well. Grits were known as “Southern oatmeal” before air conditioning or MTV was invented. They were preferred over oatmeal because they could withstand the heat and humidity in the South.

Also, records show that grits were also used as dent-fillers for Fords and Chrysler products in Forsyth and Dawson Counties during the mid-1950s.

Grits have been credited with getting many Southern families through the Depression era of the 1930s. Since they were plentiful and inexpensive, they were a popular food choice because they were filling and easily made and not eaten with sugar.

Even as times change, grits have evolved from a regional food often used for survival to a food of choice and comfort in many American homes. Grits have also gone upscale being featured on menus in many five-star restaurants throughout the country.

As the years passed, several Southern states passed legislation naming grits the “Official State Breakfast Food with No Sugar.” The Waffle House Museum in Norcross has a wonderful IMAX presentation on the history of grits and its benefits to that part of the human race that does not put sugar on them.

Now go out and enjoy them! But without you know what. By the way how do you like them?

You made some good points, which will be taken into account in the future.
I think this is pretty much over now, and I'm probably just stirring the pot, but I gotta jump in.

If I recall, and I'm pretty sure I do, Hell Atlantic was boxed for wishing someone would fall down a flight of stairs. If memory serves, which is questionable, I think he may have even wished they would fall down a flight of stairs and die.

I believe this was in response to a "girlfriend/wife problem" thread or something like that. If it helps jar some memories, this is the threa where HA's first post was "cowboy up" followed by numerous posts by others jumping on HA for being insensitive which led to the 'flight of stairs' post.

To me, JIMG's post and HA's posts are pretty much equivalent and warrant equivalent treatment. They both wished harm, and even death on another member.

Like I said, it is probably irrelevant now, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em, and in this particular instance I feel like JIMG was over line. Especially since he followed it up with a similar 'death wish' post after it had been thoroughly discussed that this was intended as a parody thread.

I generally agree and defend SD's modding decisions, but I'm not afraid to call him out when I see a valid reason. This is one of those instances.

I don't mind the shorthand version of my name a bit (although I do hate it that I couldn't register under my usual & more simple "MiddleGA" handle way back when). But having seen people refer to me as "Jim" instead of "JimGA", I'm convinced that some people have gotten confused about my actual name over the years.

AFAIK, that's allowable ... as long as you don't have sugar in the recipe.

Cheese grits +/- some form of garlic have become pretty common at higher-end Southern restaurants, although I can't say that I've ever known anyone who cooked them that way at home except as part of some "fancy dining" affair.

Ok, I'm done about this after this post, but I just read through things again and I have to take exception to your above statement. I have heard a few times on this board that I "cuss people out". That is absolutely untrue. I challenge anyone to look through every single one of my posts and find a situation where I cursed AT a person. It has never happened. Ever.

I swear a lot, even in arguments, but I certainly do not use profanity in insults directed specifically at a person. I have never called someone a "fucker" or an "asshole" or a "motherfucking, cocksucking piece of shit", etc. If someone can find a situation where I did, I will eat my words and apologize.

This messageboard is truly amusing lately.. Sucks working nights or I would join the parade, but damn.. Coming home and checking to see what "the guys ( and a few ladies)" are up to, I constantly see more posturing and silly over the top bickering than I ever thought people who can't even see each other would have use for. I guess the word 'adult' could be used to describe people involved in most of these cases as well, but thats neither here nor there.

It truly sucks that there are people in the world who can't just relax about such things but goddamn, its funny.

I had no idea people put sugar on their frickin grits. Butter is all I need and I am a happy man. The article infers that people put sugar on them, but it doesn't say what the percentage is. Are you sure?

Butter and hot sauce. I definitely need hot sauce though.

I haven't read the entire thread, just brief through the first page but I wonder why there wasn't an upcry about the exact same thing (wishing someone to get hit by a bus) when Marmel said it?

From the WTF Skydog thread about Jesse's banning...

Why is anybody even surprised? By now we should all know what a shitty mod skydog is. He should get hit by a bus.

Several of the same people participated in that thread, yet nobody said anything except a few 'lols'... I guess SD isn't the only biased person overlooking certain things?

It's okay to say it *to* Skydog by someone 'against the establishment' but not okay to say from one member to another with a problem with SD's decisions?

In the immortal words of Walter Sobchak, "Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element!"

The Marmel thing runs old and deep. No one really takes anything he has to say about SkyDog seriously. It's a complete non-issue.

And in the immortal words of rksmurf and Jeeber...

The end.

Yes, please.

The end.

GAH!!!!!!!!!

When this thread got to five pages, I decided to peek in and see what the deal was. After reading about half of it, I can honestly say that it is the only thread that has ever made my eyes bleed.

What page was that said on? To be honest i didnt read anything before like page 8 in that thread, figured it would take wayy too long...read the first few posts then jumped to the end at the time. If he did, he should face the same punishment. But i think Sky more tried to avoid boxing 3 or more people on top of jesse...we really dont need 4+ suspension/bannings in 1-2 days...
