here's an idea I launched in this thread (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4809)
I'm going to have some people be the GM/owners of some Tecmo teams, and I'll provide everything else that happens in league.
I need those who are interested here to post what team they would like to be. If looking to start with at least 5 players.
while I've yet to work out many of the aspects of the leauge, here's what I know right now:
everyone will play an identical schedule
you will play each team in your division twice
I will watch one game per week (season week, not real life week) play itself out, and report on it
I will provide box-score stats for every single game
you can submit playbook changes each week
you can submit lineup changes after each week
each tecmo player will have a maximum career length of 8 seasons
injuries can impact future player ratings (after the season end) and can potentially be career-ending.
we play outside the realm of time. While we're starting with the 2001 roster, incoming rookies can be from ANY era of football.
we will eventually implement a small draft and simple free agency
we will evntually implement a very simple "salary cap"
Slots for Season 1 are now CLOSED
if you are interested in becoming a team GM next season, please send me a private message. all are welcome

The only problem with just watching one game is that I don't believe the game really takes anything into account when you just 'sim' a week by. There were some guys that did a 'study', if you can call it that, and found that more than likely, the game doesn't really look at your stuff much when you just sim.

Im fairly sure that's only true if you quick-sim the game. If you sit through the injuries/scoreboard thing, it plays out accurately.
As long as there aren't too many teams in the league I can just set the speed of the emulator super-high and actually let all the games truly play out.

Here's my basic concept of the salary cap (which would go into effect AFTER the first season):
Players would be in 3 price ranges. low, middle, or high priced.
for simplicity sake, we'd say there salaries are 1,2, or 3 dollars (you can pretend it's millions if you'd like ;) )
So we'll just have to decide what to set the salary cap at. Here's the tecmo roster breakdown:
Defense : 11 players
Punter & Kicker: 2 players
Offensive Line: 5 players
Offense "skill" positions: 12 - 6 starters and 6 more reserves
that's a 30 man roster total.
Off the top of my head, I'd say the salary cap should be 40-45 dollars.. although I stilll have plenty of time to think about this.

Are we going to redistribute players? If we are, I'd rather take my Cowboys ;- )
If we are keeping current rosters, I'll hang on to the Packers.

I think we're either going to leave the rosters as-is for this season or we're going to have some sort of min-free agency period before the season starts.
I don't want us to get mired in the roster moves which kill most Tecmo leagues before they even begin.

very happy to have you guys aboard! If we can get 4 more people, we'll fill the NFC west.
We'll go with a MAX of 9 players for the first season. I think we're going to have a lot of fun.

OK, for this year's roster changes I think we'll do a sort of supplemental free agent draft.
I will randomly select a handful of starters from around the league, set the draft order (worst roster to first), and teams will have a chance to draft someone.
When we do this, you'll have to declare what player you are cutting as you select your new player.
I mainly just want to do those for those who have a shitty roster currently. I don't want people to feel like they had NO impact over the first year of their squad.
I'll post more details as soon as we finalize the number of teams for this season. If we're not up to at least 7 people by the end of monday, we'll move on and restrict ourselves to 5 for this season. 9 would be ideal though, since you could play each other 2 times each for a perfect 16 game schedule.

Out of curiosity, if you get enough people going to expand to the West, could I take over the Seahawks instead of the Bucs? Didn't realize you were going to open up other divisions if enough people joined up or I would have bided my time a bit more ;)

Although we're using the 2001 rosters, we're still forced to stick with the 1994 division setup. Our NFC West is the old NFC west setup of Atlanta, New Orleans, St. Louis, and San Fran.
If you guys want we'll just re-draft teams in the order of who signed up first (so you'd pick 4th).
That's all IF we get 9 players.

Alright guys. I've decided it'll be best to have full divisions only, so we're going to move forward with just 5 members for the first season.
I'll probably move over to the dynasty thread sometime tonight, and start fleshing out the brief supplemental draft we'll have before the season begins. Pretty soon I'll need you to provide me with lineup and and playbook information as well.
stay tuned!
