AMD or Intel?

I was just reading an article about how Intel is hoping to win back market share with their newest chips that they are releasing this summer. Personally, I puchased an AMD processor 5 years ago and that computer is still up and running fine for me. I am thinking about upgrading soon though, and I almost pulled the trigger at the end of last year. When I do upgrade Intel will have to blow my socks off for me not to get a dual AMD64.

By this time next year, there will be no question. Intel will be faster, cheaper, cooler, and more power efficient.

In fact, they're already slashing prices on the current junk.

I just built a new machine and really went back and forth on which processor I wanted. I ultimately just went with Intel because they fit my mobo best and I really have no gripes about it. I would love to do dual AMD's eventually, once I the cash to fork out ;)

Right now my system is an INTEL P4 3Ghz but i'm going to replace it soon, maybe in a month or two. Probably will buy a dual core AMD 64 for Windows Vista.

The new bargain basement Pentium 805D dual core chip seems to be an overclocker's dream. The price point is ~$130, and people have reliably been able to overclock it, air-cooled, to 3.8Ghz per core.

Have AMD, have had AMD since the 90s and will probably stick with them.

Have Intel, but will get an AMD next time around.. especially an x2 proc.

Started out with Intel, all three of the last I've built have been AMD now and I'll likely stick with them unless Intel really does something amazing.

My dual core AMD64 at home smokes my dual core Intel at work. I'll stick with AMD for home use until Intel makes better stuff.

Rumor has it that Intel will cut prices on the current stuff (before the dual-cores) by 60%. If so, I'm going to get a top of the line processor.

I currently own an older AMD processor (Athlon XP), but I'm open to Intel on my next purchase. I normally wouldn't consider Intel at all, but due to AMD's increasing market share Intel has finally lowered their prices so you can get quality performance at a reasonable price.But I admit that if I see a comparable performance to price ratio for AMD then I'll probably go with AMD simply to keep the competition alive.

From what I understand, Intel will take back the performance crown later this year with their newest processors. AMD had a stranglehold on the performance market for a while, but their newer cpu's (AM2) are more of a lateral move for technology purposes (moving from DDR to DDR2) rather than performance. Intel made a similar decision a couple of years ago and thus why they've struggled in the performance department. It's being rumored though that AMD may take back that crown in late 2007, but that's all hearsay until we actually see some numbers.
