Has anyone ever done so? If so, why?

I've known a few guys (single) who say they sometimes pretend to be married when they go to bars because they want a one night stand and they figure that if they tell the other person they are married, even if they end up sleeping together, that person won't be looking for any kind of attachment or relationship afterward. I've always thought it sounded like a very convoluted way to think.

I've fudged my wife...even used some whipped cream.

Edit: Nevermind...I think I misunderstood the question.

When I was 12 I hung out on this community on AOL where I pretended to be a fictionalized father so I would be taken more seriously. This worked very well actually and as part of the ruse I also had a fictionalized wife. I was a commodities trader and she was a lawyer.

Back in the day, I used to put on my old wedding ring when I went out to the bar. The damn thing was like a chick magnet and I would not have much problem finding someone for the evening. Of course, I've grown up since then and haven't used that tactic in a long time.

I really think we need to ask the Ladies' Man for advice.

I've never had to worry about any of this stuff because God blessed me with a one-inch layer of ugly that I display proudly.

I never pretended to be married when I was single and now that I'm married I've yet to pretend that I was single.

I did, however, used to use an alias when looking to pick up women in my younger days. Skip Donahue. Bonus points to anyone who can identify the movie this character was in.

I've never quite understood how this works. I don't frequent bars/clubs so maybe that's why I don't get it. Why would a women be more attracted to a man who's married than to one who isn't? I was married last April and I can definitely say that women ignore me just as much now as they used to before I was married...
