View Full Version : How do you judge a pitcher?

This is coming out of what I think is an interesting discussion in another thread.

How do you judge a pitcher? What stats do you look at?

I look at the lip width and holding capacity for pitchers in combination. Ultimately, the pitcher's job is to pour liquid into a glass. So a pitcher with more holding capacity is preferable to one with less. Lip width to me is an indicator of future performance. It is possible for a pitcher to have a lot of holding capacity, but a narrow lip width. To me this is a flag that it is not going to pour quickly. However, a pitcher with lesser capacity, but a wide lip will probably do better over time. That said, lip width needs to be small enough not to pour over the sides of the glass.

Handle strength stats has always been a made up stat to me. Something to justify why some pitchers are preferable to others. Who cares if your handle is stonger than another's? All pitchers have a workable handle, so you need to look at another stat. If a handle were really weak, it would mean a lot more to me.

Material composition is something I have always been reticent to use because most people don't know it off the top of their head, but the principle is good. You don't want a pitcher's composition to taint the taste of your beverage.

What do you use to measure quality of the pitcher?

One that is light, but can be used to heat the said beverage in.

While I typically dislike parody threads, little gems like this sometimes make me wonder if they are really worth it afterall. . .

Well done, sir.

Antmeister = king of the parody threads. This one was extremely late, but the execution thereof mitigates this concern.

Nicely played, sir.

Edit: just realized this was from yesterday's thread... first read it and thought it was from the Nolan Ryan one a few weeks back, and I wondered what caused inspiration to suddenly strike? Some sort of sick parody with a little necromancy thrown in. *shudder*. Anyhoo, please disregard my second sentence above.

Edit part deux: Also I can't spell pardy err pradoy err paroty err aw shit I give up.
