Never heard of this until today, but I'm eating one of these tomorrow.

ZIPLOC OMELET<FONT face=Arial><FONT color=black>

This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!

Have people write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

<FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT size=3>
Crack two eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than two), seal, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:p></O:p>
and shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each person should add prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags, and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process, and it's a great conversation starter.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready for work or school. And in 13 minutes, you have a nice omlette for a quick breakfast!!! Tomatoes, ham, green onions, cheddar cheese and mushrooms were used in this one. MMMMMMMM . . MMMMMMM good!!!<O:p</O:p

Otherwise you will cause a tear in the space time continuum..

Actually.. sounds quick and easy but, why the hell is it that when people do recipes, they have to throw in a bunch of extra little notes like.. mmmmm, conversation starter and lots of !!!!

ANYTHING in the bag? What about a water melon? Or a boot?

Melted plastic and egg goo is not a good breakfast combination.

Not that I'd know or anything... :(

I highly suggest a boot, but not one off your foot. That is just gross.

Not really the omelet I was looking to have, more like "A slab of eggs". Actually this looks like what it will be after it passes through my colon.

Kinda looks like an old, old Twinkie.

But then again, given my culinary skills, I'm sure it can't be any worse than what I've been cooking

You can nuke a small container or a bowl with your egg mixture quicker than you can bring a pot of water to boil on the stove - fucking stupid recipie.

Shit, you can cook the omelette on the stove in a pan the regular way quicker.

But, if you happen to need 8-10 omelettes in a hurry, I guess this method is hard to beat

Attempt #2

Make sure the bag is completely inside the pot. If it touches the sides above the water, you're going to have problems. (Duh.)

Serve with fresh tomatoes.

Don't tell your wife it took you more than one attempt to boil some eggs and shit in a bag.

That is the way a lot of deli's do it when you order a egg sandwich.

Yeah, this is a pretty worthless method unless you're cooking a dozen omelettes at once. The microwave can handle something like this in like 2 mintes, max.

Newsflash: Microwave eggs SUCK!

It's something to try.. supposedly they are quite good and yes, it mostly used when doing several at a time. Plus, it's easy cleanup.

If you want to put on your chef boyardee's hat and cook them like that, hey! more power to ya!

I would like to point out that on Attempt #2, I did make a quick and tasty ham and three cheese omelet. Not the best omelet I've ever made, but as MizzouRah points out, if I had to make four or more omelets on a Sunday morning before church or something, this would be a quick and easy way to do it. This approach isn't so much a "best omelet ever" technique as a "make a heap of good food quickly" technique.

You know, it's not that hard to do an omelette just in a skillet- takes a little practice at timing. It's not like cooking the ingredients is all that hard- you just have to practice how long it takes for you to be able to flip it over to get the proper shape. But if you just want to get a pile of eggs with stuff mixed in, just drop a couple of eggs in a pan, put in your ingredients, and cook away.
