There's an Air show going on by my local airport in Hillsboro, Or. At about 4:45pm one of the planes crashed into a neighborhood just a couple hundred yards from my apartment complex. So far they haven't said whether there are fatalities. Judging from the footage I've seen there's no way the pilot could survive the wreck. There is speculation that the pilot ejected, but nothing has been confirmed.
I'm watching the news and it reminds me how much I hate eye witness reports. Its 50 people telling different versions of one event.

The plane was a Hawker Hunter.

No one but the pilot died, luckily. The woman who owns the house was down in Portland when it happened.

This seems to happen all the time at airshows.
Are these events as dangerous as they seem, or is it just selective memory on my part and high media coverage or crashes when they happen?

There hadn't been a crash at this air show in the 19-year history. This pilot wasn't actually performing a stunt when he went down. The only reason he was there was to have his Hawker Hunter on display. The wreck happened when he left to fly home to Southern Cali. I've seen footage and it appears the plane wasn’t doing well from takeoff.

Several witnesses reported that the plane was silent as it fell, just dead in the air. We live about a mile south of the airport but the crash was a couple miles east of us. I'm still amazed that no one on the ground was hurt. With all the people that are out for the show and at friends houses or whatever, it hits an empty house? Amazing...
I never thought about it until after we bought our place but I am glad that we live where do instead of near the takeoff/landing areas.
