This year's Win Shares to date:

I've been hearing a lot of MVP talk on streaming NYC sports radio lately. I had assumed that the talk of NY players-- particularly Jeter-- was all hype. But it turns out that Beltran should be the clear frontrunner in the NL and Jeter really is right in the mix in the AL (Win Share differences are essentially meaningless within one share and clearly different at three).

I'm somewhat surprised that Bonds is higher than Durham. Though I guess a "great year for a 2B" isn't exactly the same as a great year for a baseball player.

Bonds surprised me too. He already has 20 WS. That's star territory.

I don't think most people would peg him in the top 30 or so of Major League ballplayers.

The real surprises are how low Ortiz and Howard, the current front-runners, rate.
