Let's get it on! Battle of the big-time giants! National rankings at stake!

Great individual battles, like Ron Holmes on the Husky D-Line trying to slow down the Sooner option attack featuring Steve Sewell, the Husky O-Line trying to contain DL Tony Casillas and a young LB Brian Bosworth while opening holes for Jacque Robinson...

...wait, you mean this isn't the 1985 Orange Bowl? Damn...

;)

Good luck to both teams, and hopefully the Huskies get out of this game without further depleting their already thin depth.

Funny that you mention them, because Casillas and Bosworth are both in the 2006 Sooners Intro Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWrETsfgeDk) that they show on the Jumbotron before the games.

Not too surprising - they're both considered all-time Sooner greats aren't they?

Don James has been quoted as talking about how he knew the Huskies couldn't handle Casillas one-on-one, so they devised a whole new blocking plan for that game, trapping him on virtually every play. Casillas has talked about how frustrated he was by it and how he got sucked into it all game.

I can't remember - was Bosworth a Junior or a Sophomore in that game?

I just hope the OU defense corrects their poor tackling from last week because if Sam Hunt can run like he did, they're going to have problems with Stanback.

Duckman and I are going, and I'm pretty excited. Job stuff and having a little one kept me from going to any games last year.

That's one of my few threads of hope for this game, that Stanback's speed and running ability can counter the Sooner pass rush.

Also, there's some hope that the UW defensive line has enough depth and ability to keep Peterson from going wild. The Husky D-Line is one of the few areas on the team that might be considered a potential strength.

Our pass defense is horrible though. Our only hope there is if our DE's can get some heat on Thompson.

Bosworth was a freshman in that game. He graduated early (with a 3.4 GPA in Business Admin.), and left for the NFL as a junior. In his sophomore year, OU beat undefeated Penn State in the Orange Bowl and won the national championship.

That one-loss Washington team deserved to win the national championship when they won the Orange Bowl. Instead, BYU was voted #1 because they were the only undefeated team. They struggled to barely beat a 6-6 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl.

Hey Coug, remember what OU did to Jason Gesser in the 2003 Rose Bowl? :p

I'm fired up myself. It's been a couple years since I've been to an OU game. I'm going to make it a point to go to at least one game a season until I can somehow get some season tickets.

It should be a very good game. I think it'll be close. I'm going 27-24 Oklahoma. I thnk it Washington has talent, but they don't have much depth right now, but I think that'll change later in the season when they get more guys involved.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, neither Washington nor Washington State played in that game.

Do i care about either of those teams, no. This thread was about washington and OU, the second you brought WSU into the fold you made it fair game for me to bring USC into the fold.

I didn't bring WSU into the fold. You might want to check a few posts before mine.

I dont see anything, unless you mean WSU saying bow down, which i thought was directed at washington. I dont see mention of WSU, or better WSU and OU, anywhere before yours...please direct my blind eyes

That's correct. A WSU fan came into an OU-Washington thread and said "bow down", directed to Washington. I was responding to him with an OU reference.

What USC has to do with this is beyond me.

I dont understand why you have to get involved in their rivalry, so i made just as out of place a post as you to exemplify it. Im done talking, but your trash talking was as irrelevant as mine.

Unfortunately, I think the problem is going to be that Washington won't have enough depth to stay competitive all season - if they have a couple long-term injuries on the offensive line and/or the secondary, they'll be in real trouble.

This program is probably another 1-2 full, strong classes away from rejoining the top teams in the Pac-10.

I can't argue with you, but I think it was a combination of many people respecting LaVell Edwards and people having a hard time voting a 1-loss team as champs over an undefeated BYU, regardless of how strong their schedule may or may not have been.

That was a classic Don James team that year - killer defense, strong running game, outstanding special teams.

Let's just face it, USC has shit on OU because they can brag about winning the 04 championship against us, but we can't point out the next year's loss because of who beat them.

As for the game, i will be there...I respect that Washington has some talent, but I think OU is somewhat underrated after a 4 to 1 turnover margin made the UAB score closer than it probably should have been. OU should win by around three TD's...depending on how well the defense does and how Thompson plays, could be even more.

Yep, that's a reasonable prediction. I'm hoping for closer so the Huskies don't lose too much confidence for the rest of the season, and I don't think it's completely unreasonable to think the Huskies could pull off a major upset, but the likelihood is that Oklahoma beats Washington pretty comfortably in this one.
