Both are very attractive, but Charlize is hotter, whereas Natalie Portman is more cute. Given this is a "hotness" poll, Charlize should win. Mmm, "2 Days in The Valley" white spandex/lyrca bodysuit thing... Mmmm....

Why would "nerds" be more likely to vote for Portman than Charlize Theron? Don't bring up the "Star Wars" thing, because that's already proven to be 100% not true. If anything, the inverse is true.

I will admit that people have some very strange tastes around here, but I wouldn't blame this on nerdom.

Even if you throw out the Star Wars thing.

There is a strange fascination in Nerdom with Portman that is much greater than it is in the real world.

At this point, I don't know why since my theory was wrong, but it's there. There is no way that if you do a HoN poll in the general public that Portman finishes as high as she did here.

Interesting. I guess it's possible.

If it is true, my take on it would be that Portman is attractive and while not as "hot" as other celebrities, she does tend to play characters who are cute, smart, and quirky, such as "Beautiful Girls", "Garden State", and even "V For Vendetta" on some level. (Note: Her role in Star Wars is a notable exception to this, as is that horrific "Where The Heart Is"). Nerdom loves smart and quirky. I'm sure her willingness to be in films like Star Wars and "V for Vendetta" doesn't hurt.

Seems as logical an explanation as any.

I could be wrong too, but that has definately been my perception. That in RL when conversations of super hot girls come up, you do not hear about Portman. But on-line or with RL nerdy friends, Portman is often numero uno.

Hoops, i have to say, i totally disagree. I just dont find theron to be that sexually appealing. I can see she is a good looking girl, but i just dont consider her "hot." Portman does it for me though, but i have always been a brunette guy. Im not a star wars fan, i just find her far more attractive

What's all this crackhead talk supporting Portman. Charlize has got it all over Natalie-- face, body, talent... and she's posed nude. She's not gonna go out and do a movie where she plays a stripper and then doesn't take off her clothes.

I attribute the popularity of Natalie Portman not to Star Wars or nerdiness, but to latent pedophilia. Like Drew Barrymore, she was a cute kid, and that's what I think makes people think of her as HOT, despite being rather an ordinary looking woman (again like Drew).

Just a theory.

I would hope that anyone that thought of her as a cute kid (like in The Professional) would have also been rather uncomfortable with most of her scenes in that movie.

I think the Theron supporters must lack confidence in their selection with all of the Natalie bashing going on. Here's the real reason I voted for Natalie Portman:

She's more attractive than Theron. To me. the voter. I've never slammed someone elses preference, and yet tons of Theron supporters are in here slamming Portman. I submit that's because you secretly find her more attractive than Theron too.

I picked Portman because she's more closely aligned with the kind of woman I consider hot. Honestly, they both have their issues - Theron was a bit too convincing as a fat, ugly lezbo psycho, and Portman could easily be passed off as a guy with the right clothes and haircut. Neither of them would get too far in this competition with me.

So if forced to choose you'd get behind a girl that looks like a guy?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Dis agree that the fascination with Portman is greater among "nerds" than the real world. Last time I checked, I think there is very little crossover between the readership of FOFC and People Magazine, who has listed her among their most beautiful women in the world. She's been on the cover of countless magazines and I think is just as much of a media darling as Theron.

There are a lot of reasons people could consider Portman hotter than Theron. Maybe they don't prefer blondes. Maybe they prefer quirky, smart actresses.

I also don't buy any argument about talent -- unfortunately, I think everybody saw Portman's worst work, which were the Star Wars movies. I think she was poorly used in the movies and unfortunately Lucas didn't give her much to work with. If everybody had seen Aeon Flux, they might be demanding Theron give her Oscar back.

That's 2005 and 2006 and no Portman.

FWIW, I voted Portman of Theron. I'm just saying her general appeal is greater amongst nerds, and you have proven my point by showing the fact that People did not have her as one of the 50 most beautiful people for the last two years running.

So, she's not one of the world's most beautiful people, but she was one of the top 8 here.

That list (from year to year) is pretty much a few regulars, a couple dozen celeb-types who were notable for some reason during the last year who are not bad looking, a few that are your "oh, don't they look great still for their age types" (Ann-Margret, Paul Newman, Redford, etc), then some regular folk with touching stories.

I don't disagree, but both are completely subjective measures and can be mutually exclusive. Just as you can think someone is beautiful but not hot, I can think someone is hot but not beautiful.
