View Full Version : FOF 2007 or wait for GDS football game?

Ok, I'm obviously new to the forum, but I've been around the text-sim world for a little while. I haven't played FOF2007 yet, and I have just downloaded the demo, but I'm wondering if I should buy FOF or wait for Grey Dog Software's pro football game, whenever that comes out?

Basically, I'm wondering if Total Pro Football was a better game than Front Office Football. I know that this is technically a FOF forum, but I also know there are a lot of guys on here who play a number of text-sims, so I hope for some honest guidance.

Thanks,
Robby

FOF is the best. It's not even close. As for waiting for Grey Dog's, you might be waiting a very long time.

IMHO I think FOF is superior to all...

just take a look at the features and you should be sold.

FOF without question.

I agree...currently FOF is the leading football game. Also, GDS hasn't even announced when their game will be ready. This is not to say once/if it is released that it could certainly have potential. Always room for competition:)

As a fan of GDS, I can honestly say don't wait.

You will be pleased with FOF 2007.

Obviously this crowd is going to be very pro-FOF2007. But ignoring that, unless something unexpected happens, you're probably going to be waiting at least a year before GDS releases a pro football sim.

As for old version Total Pro Football vs. old version FOF 2004, at least in my opinion, FOF was much better. And so far, FOF 2007 is much better than FOF 2004.

One thing to consider is that while FOF 2007 has some bugs, the developer has shown extraordinary willingness to quickly and successfully patch his games. Most here would agree that you could safely purchase FOF 2007 now with confidence that the great majority of problems in the bug thread will be dealt with in a timely manner.

I'm by no means a fanboy but Solecismic is about as solid a game developer as there is. Grey Dog doesn't have nearly the track record of success.

I am a pretty hardcore FOF fan and FOF2k7 looks to be the best North American text-based game ever. Having said that, I do own other companies products. So yeah, both. :)

FOF2K7 is shaping up to be a very, very, very good game. I'd definitely get it. There's no reason to believe that the Grey Dog pro game will be out any time soon. In fact, I don't know of a reason to believe that development has even begun. Keep in mind that Arlie (the football developer at GDS) works another full-time job, developed BBCF on the side, and is still fine-tuning BBCF. If the GDS pro game looks solid, by all means get it! However, unless I've missed something significant, I know of no reason to believe that the GDS pro game will be released any time in the near future. My best guess would be that we're talking at least 9-12 months from now.

I think the FOF games are vastly superior to GDS games. This is like asking "Should I go to the Super Bowl this year or wait until next year and go to the Motor City Bowl?"

First of all, I appreciate the interest. But, while our pro football game has been in development for a few months, it won't be out anytime soon. So, my advice would be to check out the demos for Bowl Bound College Football and FOF and (if possible) purchase both. Then, feel free to keep tabs at Grey Dog Software for information on our pro football game.

Thanks, Arlie. I do own BBCF, and I love it, that is why I hace had this dilemma. But, knowing that your pro game wont be out anytime soon makes it easier. I can't wait to give FOF 2007 a try. Thanks for the help guys!

Kind of a loaded question asking in this forum. ;)

If you're new to the series, get used to the game for a bit, then wait on the first patch before delving into your universe. (at least that's what I always do).

BUT I definitly see your point of view coming from BBCF. That game is extremely fun.
