Question I've always wondered: What effect (if any) does QB style have?

Is it best to find a QB whose style matches what he's best at (what I've always assumed) or is it essentially meaningless with the human ability to gameplan?

.
Known Formations Screen

The Known Formations Screen lists which formations your quarterback understands.

During games, you will only be able to select plays using these formations while this quarterback is in control.

Quarterbacks learn new formations during training camp. Generally, they tend to learn formations more relevant to their style of play before they learn other formations.

So basically none so far as their actual gameplay is concerned, it's just concerned with their learning?

*shrug* alright then

I like QBs with style.

It still is interesting though. Say you want a vertical offense. Do you want the younger better QB who is short passing style or a lesser long pass guy. It would matter for instance if you wanted to run 4 receiver sets. With the short passing QB you may have to wait or never be able to run these formations. Something to think about anyway.

I actually found this to be an issue somewhat in the USFL. I have Brady at QB (who alway seems to have low intelligence for some reason). Anyways, his ratings are awesome but he knows only 14 formations now and I don't think he is going to learn anymore. He is also a short passing QB. I want to run 4-5 receiver sets, but have never been able to.

The problem at least in 2k4 is that is not unusual to see a QB with short playing style who has zero in screen and short pass ratings and is maxed at long ones. It should be more related and not only the formations known but also to the ratings. Again this is in 2k4, have not tested it in 2k7 so maybe it's fixed already.

It's not fixed, I've seen this same problem several times in the new game as well.

Unless I’m mistaken I was also pointed out that in FOF2K4 MP quarterbacks sometimes called plays they were not suppose to know.
