Will it be on shelves by today? I had figured it would be available by tomorrow. I wish I had the money to pick this one up... but more than likely, my laptop probably won't be able to handle it's system requirements. :(

Sucks even more,'cause we usually close the office a little early on halloween.

I just got back into WoW. I think with as many community created modules as there are for NWN, it might be awhile before I get this one.
It's available on D2D according to some of my friends.
edit: And I was told the direct to drive version uses the same patches as retail version, so no problem there either.

You (or anyone else) ever used D2D? What's your take on it?
You (or anyone else) ever used D2D? What's your take on it?
I've gotten a couple games that way. The only negative I experienced was on one of the games the retail patch didn't work and I had to wait until they released a D2D patch (which took forever for some reason). I was told that's not an issue with NWN2, but one of my friends complained that the download was huge and took a while.

Dola. Stay away from the d2d version. The release-day patch for the game does not work on the d2d download.
Dola. Stay away from the d2d version. The release-day patch for the game does not work on the d2d download.
Here's what someone else from Qt3 posted about that just a little while ago.
Hi again,
The responsibility of the patch working lies with Atari/Obsidian. It’s apparent that the patch was not working and we contacted Atari/Obsidian immediately. They have repaired the installation issues with the patch and we should have this new file obtained from them shortly and have it available for you to download. We’ve removed the patch messaging from the site since the current patch was not working. It’s not something that we do under normal circumstances, but this prevents those that purchased the game from updating the game and having continued issues. As soon as we have a working patch the messaging will go back up and installation of the file will work as intended. Any future patches released will also work as intended.

edit: BTW, my friend actually contacted them before he downloaded and was told the patch would work so I'm guessing he's pissed right now....heh.

Bug Fixes
General
• Input in Single Player games should now be much more responsive. Previously, input commands could lag for up to several frames before taking effect in-game. This is no longer the case.
• Broadcast Commands are now more reliable and last longer before companions will revert to their default behavior.
• The “Loot All” button would sometimes loot all of the items from a container but would not close the window or remove the icons. This will no longer occur.
• The player can no longer become stuck in a cinematic style cutscene by switching characters immediately as the cutscene begins.
Multiplayer
• The game will no longer crash if you switch back to your character after ordering one of your companions to barter with another player.
• The Chat box, both in-game and in the Gamespy Lobby, will no longer overrun when players type long messages.
Effects/Spells
• Fixed several instances where the type of damage was not specified in a spell’s description.
• The descriptions for Bless, Divine Shield and Shield Other have been updated.
• Isaac’s Greater Missile Storm and Isaac’s Lesser Missile Storm will no longer target allies on difficulty modes lower than D&D Hardcore. Additionally, they will select their targets more fairly now.
• Magic Fang now grants the proper bonus to animal companions.
Interface
• Long quest names will no longer be cut off in the Journal.
• Longer target names now fit underneath the targeting window.
• The Scimitar +2 will no longer have a Rapier icon.
• Items could occasionally become lost when moving them in the inventory with the game paused. This will no longer occur.
Toolset
• Users can now add .mod files as well as modules in directories to campaigns.
• The toolset could previously enter a state where it would crash when saving a module to a directory. This can no longer happen.
• The default NWN2 load screen is now available in the toolset.
Original Campaign Fixes - Warning: Spoilers below.
Global:
• Fixed several minor spelling and grammar issues.
• Fixed several instances where dialogue text did not match the Voice Over for a line.
• Fixed some instances of traps not working throughout the game.
Act 1:
• Fixed an instance where players could reach Skymirror without Elanee.
• Slaan now drops items when killed.
• Fixed Zeearie’s mouth not animating after the player defeated her.
• Fixed an inconsistency in Jochris’ cutscene.
• Fixed an issue which could cause two Waterdeep Emissaries to spawn.
• Wolf will now look the same in his cutscene in the Merchant Quarter as he does in the rest of the game.
• Fixed an infinite XP exploit when returning to West Harbor and speaking with Retta Starling.
• Thugs no longer appear in the same spot when re-entering the Neverwinter Docks district.
Act 2:
• Reduced an influence check for Grobnar during the Trial.
• Fixed the cutscene with Koraboros triggering early at Shandra’s Farm.
• Fixed the Sun Soul Art quest not being added to the journal.
• The player now receives the proper number of quest items after defeating the Shadow Reaver in Act 2.
• Turning in Arval’s journal will no longer give an invalid reward.
• Fixed an instance where Nevalle referred to Female PCs as Male.
• Fixed an infinite quest reward loop in Zaxis’ dialogue
• Players will no longer get stuck on the dialogue between Zhjaeve and Aldanon in Multiplayer.
• Soothing Light now performs the proper effect.
• Healing Lord Tavorick after he goes down but before he speaks to you will no longer break progression.
Act 3:
• The game could sometimes become stuck when leaving Fire Giant camp through the Area Transition – this will no longer occur.
• The quartermaster’s armory will no longer appear as red tunics.
• Siege Towers have been given the proper sound set.
• Retta’s dialogue will no longer drop if you speak to her before Danan.
• Prior Hlam is now available in Neverwinter City during Act 3.
• Players can no longer bypass the black portals in the Gauntlet.

Picked it up at Best Buy today after Circuit City did not have it. They had the special on Titan Quest ($30) that jb mentioned earlier as well, so got both of them. Between these two, FOF2007, and the updated patch for BBCF I'm going to be spending a lot of time on my computer over the next month or so.
The patch took me about 30 minutes to download and install. Probably an hour to go through the tutorial, although anyone who has played these games recently could bypass this easily. The characters emerged from it at 3rd level and I'm moving along with my Monk that bears a shocking resemblence to Agent Smith.

First impressions from last night:
- really liked the conversations, felt like there was content that played off my character skills, alignment, decisions
- the two characters you start with in the Tutorial are kind of meh, but the first one you meet outside of town is pretty damn funny
- I've got a system that is on the bottom end of the settings for the game and I'll need to adjust some settings to get better performance. Trying to move the camera angle around - like turning 180 degrees - is pretty sluggish
- I haven't played the 3.5 rules for D&D but I have found this game to be very much in keeping with what I have read about that version to be

The last two months or so has been heavier buying than usual - even in comparision to this time of year for me in previous years. Of course, this game and FF XII once we get it are primarily for my wife..
There are several other good games coming out in the next month that I want too, but I'll be limiting myself to just college hoops due to lack of time to play. Right now, I do have several "new" games that I've hardly had any time to play - Marvel Ultimate Alliance (would have been played much more if FOF didn't come out the next day,) Dominions 3, and SE 5. However, I'm sure I'll eventually get my money's worth out of all of them, particularly during the 1st half of next year which is always a sparse time for games.

Anyone else currently playing NWN2 that is participating in this thread?
Once you complete the initial mission there are a ton of different options for side-quests along the way. I was able to fill up the party with three additional characters pretty quickly, adding a thief and a druid to the initial fighter.
The thief was particularly helpful as it brought the "lore" skill into our group so we could actually identify items without spending 100gp a pop. The money is not exactly flowing into the coffers at this point and 100 represents a good chunk of my savings.
I'll be taking a look at the multiplayer option on Saturday with a new character. We'll be going with an evil party there to see what options are available in the game if you choose that direction.
I expect to have a lot of replay with this game so I'm not making a point of taking every quest and I'm letting the computer-supplied recommendations for the skills/feats/spells. This first character is basically an attempt to quickly get into the game - frankly not sure how much further along I'll play him as I do not yet have much attachment to him.

Knee jerk reaction from playing a very little bit last night...
The interface feels really really REALLY clunky. I think it's a byproduct of the camera just flat out *sucking*. I cannot find a camera setting that I like. Moving around and trying to find anything is a huge chore.

This might help.
First, you really need to fix the camera in the options menu, which solves the problem of the camera sucking. Turn Camera Lag to zero, since it's annoying. Then speed up your camera's rate of movement. Then you can just do what you did in NWN and use your mouse wheel to zoom and click and hold the mouse wheel to move the camera, and it feels just like the camera in NWN.

Hooboy. Games for Windows magazine (formerly CGW) gave the game a 5 out of 10, because the reviewer thought a D&D game shouldn't bring the pen and paper rules and follow them so slavishly. I'm reading a big ol' flamewar thread on Quarter to Three right now :D
I guess I'm just finally weary of being led around on a pencil-and-paper leash and batting numbers around a glorified three-dimensional spreadsheet in a computer translation that should have synthesized, not forklifted.
Um.. that's what people wanted from NWN1/2... ya know?
Eaglesfan27
11-03-2006, 02:57 PM
Yeah, I thought a big part of the appeal of this game was how well it implemented the 3.5 ruleset.
So the biggest complaint I've read so far in the reviews has to do with the camera and the poor AI pathfinding. It sounds so far like the camera complaint is agreed upon. How's everyone's experience with the Pathfinding AI of your NPC's?
And to Hell Atlantic, I just heard today from one of the Avlis Developers that they are planning ot do a second Avlis2 World using NWN2. I think they'll keep the old one up too and I suspect it will be some time before Avlis2 is up. That's a great world to play in. no i don't - i don't have a copy of NWN anymore. i never considered myself a hardcore RPGer, but after Avlis (and then experiencing MMO"RPG" games) i realized just how much fun Avlis was. a very mature group of players (although very strict and hardcore). still, i had tons of fun there. considering it was free i got my money's worth out of NWN, and i never even got too far into the single player campaign.
if Avlis is still around perhaps i'll pick up a used copy of NWN then.

Played my first multi-player game this morning and no issues to report there. Went with a warlock and played an evil game - we were not able to completely alienate the Lawful Good guy with us despite some very sincere efforts to do so.
I'm moving along with my single player game, ready to head to the city of Neverwinter after cleaning up a bunch of side plots. There seems to be a lot of content beyond the main quest. The game certainly is not linear - one of my major beefs with games like Icewind Dale.

I can't decide whether to play a fighter, paladin, or sorcerer. It appears that you can pick up a party as you move along so I'm trying to pick a complement. It's a tough call.

Confirmed, Capital. I have a group of four NPCs at this point to pick from - max is three in the party. And you can basically play as the other characters if you like, so if you choose one class you will have the opportunity to test drive others as well.

I'm playing through once on default level right now with a neutral sorceror. Eventually, I think I'll probably play with a good character (not sure of class) and evil warlock. I'm going to go hardcore with those two characters so that fireballs will kill my own guys, but I'm finding combat difficult enough on this level with the default difficulty. Last night, had forgot to save for about 45 minutes or an hour when one of my characters was outright killed by a nasty hit. The story and gameplay is definitely drawing me in (I'm just up to level 6 right now.)

Still having some issues with the camera, especially in combat but I will get used to it. Overall having a lot of fun though, just leaving for Neverwinter and starting to get immersed, really love the pace of the game as well.
I never did play the first version as I was still playing BG II then, but I can already see why so many gave the game rave reviews.
Has anyone gotten a stronghold yet?

I started a game with a fighter that will become a Weapon Master. I haven't progressed very far but enjoyed what I have seen. I may start over with a new character.
For those playing, what character class are you playing?

I have tried to play this and find the jerking of the camera unbareable. I have nearly cutting edge system and am in shock that this game wqas released in this condition. I feel like I am playing an unoptimized beta version ?
The developers obviously focused on the dice rules of current D&D rules more than making a decent running computer game. I will wait for the first patch and see how it runs. But, I am thinking I will be selling this one, soon.

I have a cutting edge system, and with the camera lag turned all the way down, it is moving as smooth as silk for me and the entire game is playing really smoothly even with models detail turned all the way up.
Got my sorceror up to level 7 today between football games (and after the Sunday night game.) Glad to finally have fireball :)

Haven't gotten NWN2 yet, but playing NWN the Fighter->Weapon Master was the class I chose the most. Second most was Ranger->Arcane Archer.
I think with NWN2, I'll try and go with one of the magic user classes.

If jbmagic's post earlier didn't help out with this issue then perhaps this will:

Don't know if you are willing to use a 3rd-party component that has not undergone extensive testing but the feedback in the thread is that it helped out several others who had major issues with the camera default settings.
Overall I've been able to deal with the camera, but it is forcing me to use the PAUSE option in combat a little more than I normally would and generally it is adding a little unneeded frustration to what otherwise has been a great game.

Yes. I think under advanced video, but I'm not 100 sure I remember where it was. Before I adjusted that, the camera was driving me mad as well. I also turned up the camera movement rate which is another option. Now, it is working perfectly.

Ok, I must say that tweak of turning camera lag down and camera movement turned up has eliminated 99% of the camera lag jerking problems. Thanks guys:)

Spoilers below
HighCliff and am at the Bandit camp out of Fort Locke with the Dwarf party and the Tiefling party members. The ineraction betweent he two of them is priceless. It was funny than the dwarf elf banter from teh Lord of the Rings movies IMHO. I am really enjoying the game. I am playing with a 3rd level Ranger/1st level Rogue. This game is a ton more fun than the last Neverwinters or any of the Elder Scrolls games or Gothic 1-2.

I took a chance and scrolled down to read your post, Galaril - Glad I did as I'm already there in the game. I'm also loving the interaction between the various characters (I now have 3 NPC's.) I also think the interaction is interesting enough that it will drive me to re-play the game with different alignments and assuming what I've heard different NPC's each time.

Received my copy today. The game is fun, just like the last one.
Unfortunately, the camera moves around slowly, which gets irritating. Not as irritating as crashing without a recent save though. So save often (f12)!
I'm hoping with a few more hours with the game I will get used to the cameras. It really bothers me after playing Guild Wars for a couple hours and coming back to NWN2 cameras.
Just read some of the recent posts, so I'll try the tweaks suggested.
Looking forward to trying an evil rogue out. I like that there are options for taking the evil route.

So, I have the game, and I hve followed thee instructions jb poached and posted here:
First, you really need to fix the camera in the options menu, which solves the problem of the camera sucking. Turn Camera Lag to zero, since it's annoying. Then speed up your camera's rate of movement. Then you can just do what you did in NWN and use your mouse wheel to zoom and click and hold the mouse wheel to move the camera, and it feels just like the camera in NWN.
I am still very, very sketchy and shaky in-game. Do I need to go and emascuate all the graphics settings to make this game playable?
I have only given the game a very short run so far, but I'm finding the player control and graphics to be completely frustrating. FWIW, I got used to the "chase camera" setup in the original NWN -- is that perhaps my problem, trying to use that setup? Is there some other combination of settings that ought to work for me?
(I have a fairly new, dual core processor computer that ought to be able to handle this sort of thing, I'd expect -- 994 MHx, 1.00 Gb of RAM)

FWIW, patch 1.03, which should be out any day now, is supposed to improve performance. If you don't mind a beta patch, that's already been released.

I have an NVIDIA quadro NVS 110 on my machine... I uess I'm getting used to the jerky interface, but the camera system is still very annoying to me.
