All football text sims are guilty of this when the computer is simming a game. The situation, I'm Pokes against Panthers. Two calls in the 4thQ.

<TABLE cellSpacing=1 width="98%" bgColor=#ffcc00 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#0a285a></TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#0a285a>Dallas: Single-Back formation with trips receivers, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, KEYING AGGRESSIVELY AGAINST THE RUN. Diggs is blitzing.
4-10-CAR31 (4Q: 07:06) Drew Bledsoe pass completed to WR Terrell Owens for 12 yards. Tackled by S Mike Minter.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Having benefited from this is no consolation or fun.
Panthers had been doing a good job stopping the running game all day. NO one is going to key aggressively against run in this situation.

Carolina: Single-Back formation with four receivers, strength is left. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, EXPECTING THE RUN.
3-19-CAR11 (4Q: 05:26) Jake Delhomme pass fell incomplete, intended for RB DeShaun Foster. CB Aaron Glenn knocked the ball out of his grasp.

Given Dallas did not suffer from from this, it still should never happen. The defenses called were not bad calls, in and of themselves. But a defense is looking for a run in this instance??

Is there a way for the default setting for all other teams to be adjusted so defenses will not make ridiculous assumptions?

It's kind of hard to judge these things without knowing the score. A lot of modifiers come into play midway through the 4th quarter.

On the first example I would tend agree based on the info provided. From what I've seen, however, this is an atypical example.

The second example is reasonable. If you're 3rd and 19 on the 11 in your own territory, often times you want to be safe, run the ball and punt it away rather than risk a sack/fumble or interception that deep in your own territory, especially if the game is close or you're leading at the time. Watching out for the run in this situation makes some sense (expecting the run doesn't mean you're not playing pass defense as well).

Carolina was ahead 23-16 at this point. Maybe the 2nd call wasn't too off. But I can see how the the 1st one could be called by just looking at the default settings in defense gameplan. Situations such as 3rd 11-16 yet the default has approx. a 10% chance of calling a run defense. It's easy to just edit this stuff out of your gameplan but wish there could be a league wide adjustment for some I would call egregious.
