It doesn't matter what your political beliefs are or who you're voting for, just make sure to go out and vote today! Unless, of course you're not in the United States, then you can just watch the whole spectacle from afar.

no offense but I dont get that, i just dont....if there wasnt a write in line, than I would, but since you can write in anyone you want, I just think its thumbing one's nose at our freedom....but that, however, is an opinion and really means nothing. no offense.

I always vote. I put on my rock the vote hat with the two beer holders on the side and get wasted. When I get to the computerized polling booth, whenever I select a candidate, I cheer really loud and run around the room getting high fives from people. When the screen switches to the next race, I try and get the "Defense!" chant going.

Same here. Most of my candidates are crap...but if you don't vote then you shouldn't be able to bitch about how crap they are.

Because write-in candidates are effective.
I actually think if you want to criticize someone like me then you should be saying that I should get involved in primaries or somehow else earlier in the process...
All this being said, I'll likely vote.. but I won't be very happy about the vote...

Not in Georgia you can't.
Only ballots cast for officially qualified candidates are counted. There is a process to qualify as a write-in candidate (http://www.ganet.org/cgi-bin/pub/ocode/ocgsearch?number=21-2-133), but if that hasn't been followed then votes cast for an unqualified candidate are discarded.
I'm sure that varies from state to state and place to place, but I thought I'd throw it out there just as a tangent point of interest.

What state?
Speaking of that, and how we do funny FOF names, anyone have amusing names of candidates to share, like a Hairy Ass McGee. We don't have one of those, but if this guy uses his nickname on the ballot, I may have to vote for him

This may be the case in VA, as I don't remember a space for write-in candidates on my scantron before.. but, i could be wrong..

I really, really hate that. I'm a non-voter, not saying this is the reason I don't do it, but it doesn't help. Also, when I am out to breakfast, just sit down with a bunch of friends and get my meal, I don't need people coming up to my table handing out pamphlets and such.

From the Virginia Code (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+24.2-644)
C. At all elections except primary elections it shall be lawful for any voter to vote for any person other than the listed candidates for the office by writing or hand printing the person's name on the official ballot. No check or other mark shall be required to cast a valid write-in vote. Write-in votes for President and Vice President shall be counted only for candidates who have filed a joint declaration of intent to be write-in candidates for the offices with the Secretary of the State Board not less than ten days before the date of the presidential election. The declaration of intent shall be on a form prescribed by the State Board and shall include a list of presidential electors pledged to those candidates which equals the whole number of senators and representatives to which the Commonwealth at that time is entitled in the Congress of the United States. A write-in vote cast for candidates for President and Vice President, or for a candidate for President only, shall be counted for the individual electors listed on the declaration of intent as pledged to those candidates.
D. No write-in vote shall be counted unless the name is entered on the ballot in conformance with this section. No write-in vote shall be counted when it is apparent to the officers of election that a voter has voted for the same person for the same office more than one time. No write-in vote shall be counted for an office for any person whose name appears on the ballot as a candidate for that office. If two or more persons are to be elected to the same office, a voter may vote for one or more persons whose names do appear on the ballot and one or more persons whose names do not appear on the ballot, provided that the total number of votes cast by him for that office does not exceed the number of persons to be elected to that office.

i still stand by the statement that it's completely pointless though ;)... I'd vote for a 3rd party that I knew nothing about before a write-in..

People have to also realize that you have the right to abstain from voting on a particular measure or position, which enables you to bitch later when Loser A was worse than Loser B and there was no capable Loser C to vote for.

I'm not voting for the first time in forever for a couple of reasons:
1. When we moved here, we registered to vote when we got our driver licenses in July. It didn't dawn on us until late last week that we never received our voter registration cards, and now they have no record of us having registered. Looks like they tossed our cards at the DMV.
2. Even if we were registered, I don't feel like I have a good enough grip on politics in this area to vote informatively. So I'd likely pass anyway this time around...but the DMV made that choice for me at any rate.

I'm still debating whether to vote for (IIRC) my first ever Libertarian today or not.
I have zero like for the guy, other than the fact he isn't A or B but there's cruel part of me that sort of likes the idea of forcing the other two jackasses into three more weeks of work for a runoff. The end result would almost certainly be the same but it would be a chance to make the two winners suffer at least a little more.

Vote for him. In my case, Bredesen has done a bang up job cleaning up after Sundquist. He is one democrat I would consider voting for if he runs in 2008 for the presidency. I would hope that he would have enough control over the party to run how he would want to run rather than be a mouthpiece for the party.

No write-in in Louisiana either. Plus registering increases my chances at jury duty, which being self-employed I absolutely cannot afford. I know it's a valid excuse, but given the random inefficiency inherent in government, I could still be required to show up and tell them I can't do it, which will cost me a day's income. Not worth it to vote on which criminal, er, candidate nauseates me less.
Pumpy continues to be the long-lost assblack of a brother I never had. Hate politics, love the Privateers. UNO v. Vermont today! First regular season college hoops game in America, ESPNU!
