Damn... where am I going to get all this $$$$???
GOW is getting excellent reviews - the highest score IGN has given for a 360 to date and most are saying it the BEST looking game next gen, period. I want it!!
COD 3 - I love this series and this one is no different, wanting this one to. :)
Have you seen videos for it? It looks unbelievable, i cant wait to play it.

With some reviews saying the solo campaign is roughly 10-15 hours, I don't think I can invest in GOW.

If I play it through.. I'll sell it on ebay.... of course that's if I pick it up today. :D
I've also read that on the "insane" level, it takes 3X as long to complete the game.

I'm not into FPS...however, I might take a look at it later on. Buying a PS3 is going to set me back a little.

I'm pretty sure Gears of War is a third person shooter (but that's kind of a semantic arguement. I've played both and they play pretty much the same way, just with 3rd-person shooter, you can see more)
Anyway, Gears of War looks so good, I'll force myself to learn how to play a FPS (3rd-person...) on a console.

Same here, though I may consider picking up COD3 for the PS3. I'll have to head to a friend's house to play Gears of War.

Leaning toward COD3 over GOW. But honestly, I'm enjoying RE4 on PS2 right now, so I may hold off for a while.

Gears of War is an outstanding technical achievement, but in addition to looking and sounding amazing, it's a seriously awesome action game.
The Good: Stellar graphics reset the bar for what consoles can do visually; great soundtrack and killer sound effects; satisfying gameplay in single-player mode; very addictive online play; best use of a chainsaw in any game, ever.
The Bad: Story could have been a bit more fleshed out; difficulty could have used some slight tuning.

No idea when COD3 and GOW are released over here, but already NBA 2K7 has taken all my gaming time, and I'm still only 15 or so hours in to Oblivion. I want to at least finish Oblivion before I go out and grab another game.

Yeah I picked up Splinter Cell couple of weeks ago, but haven't opened it because of NBA 2K7, Madden 2007 and NCAA 2007. It's a bad month for me.

Gears of War is awesome-tacular. I played one level of the co-op and then played versus multiplayer for almost three hours. It's very well done and it's the first third-person shooter that has actually *felt* right as a third-person shooter.
Anyone with a 360 and Live should pick this game up ASAP.

I pre-ordered COD3 and was told it's going to be in today, but I think I'm going to cancel it. I've been playing my XBOX360 less and less (just like I did with my PS2) and I'm now in "must save all money for Christmas" mode. Plus, this'll give me time to wait for a review.

For some reason, I'm having some struggles adjusting to the controls in GOW. For some reason, when you move forward on the joystick you don't move forward, you actually drift to the right. So, to move in a straight line, I have to angle the joystick to around the 11 o'clock position.
This just me?

Me no like NBA - strictly college for basketball and and occasional TPB game or two.
GOW is supposed to be hard as a single player lasting about 10-15 hours on normal difficulty. (I think it lends itself to co-op play better - but I've read people love the single player mode as well)
If COD 3 is like 1 & 2 - single player is fantasic, imho.

I don't want a jbmagic "you made em buy that game you stupid jerk" type comment from anyone, but mizzou, I've played both of the COD games and I love the hell out of them. They are terrific first person shooters and I'm sure you can't go wrong with COD3 if you buy it. There is no doubt I'll own the game at some point.
But all I can tell you is that GOW blows COD out of the water with what I've seen thus far, and I'm not even into the heart of the game yet. This thing is just sensational. I try not to get overexcited at games, especially early on, but within the first five minutes of this game you realize it's something special. I'll say it again, WOW.

It's all about the multiplayer. I mean, the single-player/co-op is supposed to be good, but I'm going to hopefully be playing the multiplayer for at least the next year.
For those who don't know, it's pretty much a 4 on 4, tactical strategy 3rd-person action game. But the tactics are so much more involved than any game I've ever played before. You really get rewarded for sticking together and playing as a team, and REALLY get punished for going off on your own to try and win.
My favorite way to kill people is to arm a grenade in-hand, do a melee, then the grenade sticks to your opponent and blows them to hell. It's seriously amazing to watch. Feel free to catch me on Live, hopefully playing a lot of the Warzone? mode (each player gets 1 life).
Seriously, if you buy only 1 game for the 360, this should be it.
The game is great. I need to stop trying to chainsawing everybody it's getting me killed lol

i friend and i played GOW for about 5 hours on co-op last week....a couple thoughts, good and bad
- good - if one person starts the campaign, a second player can join at any time, and the first person can pick up where the team leaves off.
- bad - the split screen is top and bottom instead of right and left, like the rainbow 6 games....we both thought it made it harder to see enemies shooting from above since that part of the screen is cut off by the other player
- good - i have never played a shooter where the AI was so good (this is on the normal level) they take cover when they are taking fire, and they wait for you to pop up before firing at you....there were a couple spots where they were a little dumb (one of the parts where you had to stay in the light, they all just ran into the darkness and killed themselves...all we had to do was stay down and wait for them to jump the barrier and die.
- good - the different ways to take cover and break cover were excellent...a couple of spots where you had to go behind a barrier and then jump it while still firing would have been suicide if you had to stand up, back up and run to jump the barrier.
- meh - the we thought the reload took a little long. i tried the manual reload a couple times and couldnt really figure it out (the manual is not real clear about when you are supposed to hit the button), so we just let the auto reload change magazines....my buddy liked to just hold down the trigger and had more problems than i did..i used a lot more controlled bursts and didnt have the ammo problems he did.
- tip - if you are playing multiplayer, have one of you use the gun with the chainsaw on it that you both start with, and the other one pick up one of the bad guys guns...half the ammo that the bad guys drop is for either weapon...if you both have the same one, you could run into some ammo supply problems between ammo crates.
- tip - we did well with the two different automatic weapons, and one of us had the sniper rifle and the other had the fist of god weapon...there are points in the game when both of them are either very handy, or absolutely needed. (at the spot where the fist of god is needed, it is available in case you arent already carrying it)

Reload of awesomeness: click the right button on your controller, and a bar will start scrolling right in the upper-right of your screen. If you click the right button again in the skinny bright white part, you get a damage boost AND fast reload. If you click it on the white-ish part, you get a fast reload and no damage boost.
It's easy to get the hang of and makes a HUGE difference in multiplayer.

Pumpy - do you have Viva? If so, how is it??
I do have it. I happen to like it. I'm still very early in the game, and there doesn't seem to be much to "do" yet, but I'm amused by the graphics and sounds right now. I just have a hard time recommending it at the moment because I haven't done very much yet. It's kind of hard to say that it's worth getting because some people might find it too childlike or boring.
From what I've read about Viva it seems more like an adult game than a child's game. Animals have sex, killing each other, selling kids on the black market, etc.

It's only an adult game if you catch on to what's happening. The sex is actually a "romance dance" which just looks like, well, animals dancing with each other (it's pretty funny). When they kill each other, they get into these fights where they shoot missiles at each other. The bigger animals do eat the smaller animals, but after an animal gets eaten, its spirit just goes back into the wild and re-forms. It's not really as much of a "death" as it is a "rebirth."
Basically, there are adult things going on, but I'm sure that children could play it without catching on to any of the adult themes. It's not like "Conker's Bad Fur Day" in which it's a completely adult game that looks like a child's game. "Viva Pinata" is more like a TV show that has jokes to entertain both kids and adults.
It's a really cute game, but it's not really everybody's style, I'm sure.

I'm about six hours or so in now and haven't. I think I have a ways to go.
Not that it matters. I'll play through this again on a harder level because I like it so much. I'd also love to play through it as a coop sometime and will play some death matching on it for sure.
This game is so good, that I'd probably reccomend it even if were only a six hour game. $10 an hour for the entertainment this provides? I'd have been willing to pay it.
My guess is anyone who picks up this game will get at least 15-20 hours out of it at a minimum.

I've got both CoD3 and GoW. Both are great. I've spent more time on CoD3. A good chunk on live. I love the vehicles and classes with special abilities. The air strike was getting frustrating as it seems too easy to call in and kill a lot of people. The medic role is pretty neat as you can revive people so they do not have to respawn.
GoW was cool on live as well. I only played one session for an hour or so. It pretty much came down to a sprint for hte special weapons and whoever got those, tended to win the round. I played on the game where you have one life. Oh, the revive option in Gears is pretty nice too. Also as someone else mentioned, stickying the grenade onto someone is the best.

My girlfriend and I played this for about three hours tonight and had a blast. We are playing casual but neither one of us are veterans at this type of game. Taking the machine gun bunkers are the best part, since you have to wrok together.

I broke down and bought Gears of War on Sunday and have been having a blast in single player. Graphics are as great as I expected, but the storyline and cut scenes are better than expected, and so are some of the immensely big and freaky enemies. Walking through a house, hearing a a massive roar, and then having a beserker smash through the wall right next to you is god damned terrifying. Not sure how much longer is left in the game, but I hope its got a while to go yet. I just made it through my father's house and in to the APC before quitting for the night.
I played multiplayer for an hour or so last nite and had some fun, but the rounds are over far too soon IMO, and the "pin the grenade on the donkey" trick works a little too well. It would be cool to play in a game where everyone is on mics and playing the game properly, as opposed to a mad rush.
It would also be really cool to play co-op, but I couldn't find any games with a decent ping last nite.

They really neutered the grenade stick function in the last patch a few weeks ago. Just be aware and keep your distance if you see someone running at you with grenades (that person is probably me BTW ;)). They have to be literally right next to you to stick it with the recent update.
Enjoy GOW online...it's the best the 360 has to offer.
