Hey Lakers fans,
Here's some salt for that wound.
It's been a nice fantasy week for you guys, thinking Bynum has arrived and that Odom was going to keep averaging 25 ppg-plus when Kobe came back, but isn't about time to recognize you're still the second best team in the arena?
:D

The clippers have a good squad, and if Livingston reaches a high level, i see no reason why they can't contend for the title for the next 3-5 years, before Brand gets too old. Other than the fact that they are the clippers, of course.

You don't get it. Making the NBA finals is what its all about. Otherwise, its a losing season. By those standards, the clippers have always been losers.
Are you thinking the clippers are going to the NBA finals this year? Or even in the next 10 years?

Losers pound their chest over their few moments of glory even though they are clearly few and far between.
The Clippers got eliminated in the 2nd round last year. YEA, GO TEAM! WE RULE!
What's more likely to happen? The Clippers win a title with Donald Sterling as their owner or he somehow fucks up his current roster as he always seems to do.
The Lakers stay down for an extended period of time or they are contending for a title in a few years like they always seem to do.

I like how Clippers fans in this thread are saying things like "Fans of fallen franchises can only talk trash about the past, while winners can talk here and now."
When the Lakers were dominant in the 80's and early 2000's, did they even care about the Clippers? They didn't talk trash about the Clippers, because NOBODY CARED ABOUT THE CLIPPERS BESIDES BILLY CRYSTAL.
Oh, and by the way....it's an 82 game season. The Clippers have played 5 games. A lot can happen in 77 games. ACL's can tear, team chemistry can fall apart.....Let's wait a minute before planning the Clippers' championship parade.

Lets see, they added Radmanovic and a rookie PG? They are decent enough I suppose. Surely you don't expect Walton to average 15ppg the whole season? Kobe has knee problems, and that is enough for me to slightly downgrade the team. He may be fine, but no matter what, you won't win 50 games if he misses any serious stretch of games.

Yeah, but our superstar is younger, and our future star Livingston is the same age as your future superstar Bynum (if you buy that either will be that). And besides, our numbers are skewed by Cassell.
Also, when you put it the way you have up there, it hides the fact you're only looking at about 8-9 spots difference on any team age ranking. As in Clippers 10th oldest, Lakers 18th oldest or something like that. Not exactly an old man versus a newborn, IMO.

I think you're referring to Brand & Bryant? Brand is 8 months younger, right? ;)
Livingston can be really good - I'm interested to see how he'll fit in. Bynum - I'm worried about his durability, but he has potential.
I understand that the #'s are skewed by Cassell, but it's not as if he's a schmuck on the end of the bench - the guy is a legit player - one that the Lakers certainly could use.
Not an old man vs. a newbown, but the Clippers aren't the young up and coming prize fighter - relatively speaking.

lol...I'll bet.
Although it's a give and take with Sam. Last night is a perfect example. No one on the Lakers could really stop him. He was our answer to Kobe last night most of the game. But then you get to that stretch in the third where he stupidly got himself called for a T in the middle of a big Lakers run. And it wasn't a "new NBA rules" T--he was T'd for vehemently and continuously arguing--a Cassell special trait.
As a result, he is removed from the game and gets his head out of it a bit,a nd by the time Dunleavy feels he can put him back in, we have missed on more than a quarter of player from our best weapon last night (and also taking him out of his rhythm).

Bug, start paying attention to contemporary sports. This isn't 2003. Or didn't you notice the huge extension Kaman got? Or the big money Magette, Brand, Mobley, Thomas and Cassell are being paid. Or that the Clips are actually over the salary cap now. Or that they just broke ground on a state-of-the-art practice facililty in El Segundo. And they signed their coach to a huge extension.
Sterling's no spendthrift, but the wallets have opened up quite a but more. Cheap isn't what I would describe him as now. In fact, from what I can tell, it's your boy Buss who is being cheap. His antsiness with the luxury cap has thrown your team into semi-permanent mediocrity.

Enjoy your five game stay in the playoffs.
I know CHief, Donald finally has a team more talented then the Lakers and how does Karma repay him?
By letting him sit at home like he used to :)

I will think of this thread every year when the Clippers miss the playoffs.
