Have you ever contacted your elected officials?

For the first time in my military career, I am actually establishing firm roots in my local community politically. With that I have made more than a few phone calls to my local elected officials over the last year and even a couple to the state level. This is a first for me. I am just curious how many people have ever contacted (phone call, a letter or email, town meeting etc) their elected officials to provide a more immediate feedback on how they are doing their jobs than just elections. Maybe you wanted to agree or disagree with a vote they made. Maybe you want to give your thoughts and/or concerns are on pending legislation or maybe you don't like the tie/dress they were wearing on C-Span. Has it been enough to make you contact them. I don't really care what level of government it is on though my personal experience lends me to believe that it is much easier to communicate with your local officials than it is with those at the state or federal level. If you have not, please give a reason why you have not.

Most recently I contacted my local congressman and senator regarding the "Combating Autism Act". It passed the senate and now, of course, just sits on the docket in the House of Representatives (and therefore probably won't get looked at until the next session).

Oh, and the guy who sponsored it, Rick Santorum, was just voted out, so that's a good sign.

Most of my contact comes through work, so I guess you can put an asterisk next to it. I have e-mailed my state rep on pesonal business in the past and I sent a nasty e-mail to my congresswoman for ignoring part of her district. But in my job I have a lot of contact with elected officials, although more often than not they are individuals who don't represent me.

I sent my congressman hatemail over the internet gambling ban legislation. That's about it.

Yeah, I once had a conversation on AIM with George W Bush about the IHOF draft. He agreed with me that Kodos taking Bubba at 1.10 was insane.
