OK, I've been out of the RPG game since Fallout 1, but I'm hankering for one. Suggestions? Can be new or old -- only thing it can't be is strictly real-time because my reflexes suck. I think I can run pretty much anything out there, I've got a 2.7 processor and a meg of RAM and a 128MB video card.....

Neverwinter Nights 2

Titan Quest

Dungeon Siege 2 (A lot of people disliked it, but I loved it)

Fate

I'd say Morrowind for sure, great game and the mods that are available are tremendous. The sequel Oblivion is out but I think your system might struggle with it.

And you gotta try Fate, but that may fall under real time. However it is more of an arcade RPG.

Awww....and don't forget this spot. The graphics may be outdated, but the storylines and gameplay are top notch.

Loved the Geneforge series.

Another one with dated graphics but deep gameplay is UnReal World. It's a roguelike game in the style of Angband or Ivan. It's set during the iron age in Finnland and is a survival style rpg. Difficult, but fun.

I can't believe I forgot about Oblivion.

Also, the single player campaign for Neverwinter Nights 2 is a trillion times better than the first game. Your computer is close to the same specs as mine (I have a slightly better processor), so you should be able to run the game on medium-high, especially after the last patch. I wouldn't even remotely consider buying the first version now that the far superior NW2 is out.

I love Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 2. I know I'm in the minority, but I couldn't get into Planescape Torment.

Haven't tried it lately, but when I bought NWN2 it lagged a ton. I'm using a 3gig processor with 1 gig RAM. The game was fun, but the camera lag kept pissing me off. Hopefully, they have fixed it.

Yeah. The first patch fixed the camera lag.

Wasn't there a ton of mods for the first one though? Would it be worthwhile to play through those or just jump straight into 2?

Looks interesting. I've always been an Angband fan.

Geneforge is a very fun series but quite dated graphics.

My wife got me hooked on Neverwinter Nights 2 (she has beat the game already) and we both agree that it is one of the best RPG's ever. She is already playing the game through a 2nd time with a different type of character.

I also really like Oblivion and Gothic 2 (get the gold edition.) Haven't gotten Gothic 3 yet, but hoping to get it for Christmas.

Browsing through GoGamer it looks like I could pick up the Baldurs Gate 2 complete, Morrowind GOTY and NWN1 Diamond for about forty bucks. That seems like an awful lot of gaming goodness for the buck.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Games like NWN2, Gothic 3 and Oblivion could struggle to run at a decent level on your system depending on what graphics card you own (the memory on the card doesn't really mean much for graphic cards).

Oblivion especially would be ornery. That game wants INSANE graphics power to run well.

I think I'll try out the older ones first then. I believe my card is a Radeon 6800 but not positive. It's about 3 years old and I'm planning on upgrading it in the next few months, but it's never a big priority because I usually play TBS and text sims.

Your comp will run anything that came out before this year perfectly fine, it's just that recently the devs have started really ramping up the graphics requirements.

I wouldn't even remotely consider buying the first version now that the far superior NW2 is out.

Although NWN 1 does have years of mods/modules out there for use to extend the playability of it. Plus it is cheap so.. not all is lost.

(I'm assuming the modules are not usable in NWN 2 or that NWN 2's user community has not fully revved up yet.. if they have, I'm wrong and I need to buy NWN 2 tomorrow... :D )
