MY fiance and I have been using Netflix to watc TV series lately with great enjoyment. So far we have done Greys Anatomy, LAs Vegas and Lost. We would like some other suggestions for our next series. We aren't into sci-fi so Star Trek etc...is out. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

The Dead Zone
X-Files (probably technically sci-fi, but I think it fits more with crime drama with paranormal themes)
Sports Night
The Shield
Rome
24

Some other suggestions (because 24 really deserves it's own post):

- The HBO shows, especially if you're not a subscriber...The Wire, Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Rescue Me
- Freaks and Geeks
- Undeclared

Those last two will fly by.

I'd echo the HBO shows. In particular The Wire. Deadwood is good as well.

Veronica Mars is a show I've watched on Netflix and is great for concerted viewing.

I am a big fan of 24 and haven't missed a season, but I have also never watched a re-run of any of the seasons. How do you guys enjoy '24' in re-runs? It would seem way too confusing to me if I went back to season 1 and had to erase any memory I had of people switching allegiances, getting killed, etc.

TV Suggestions: The Wire, The Shield (so much better without the 10 sets of commercials), West Wing, Arrested Development, UK Office

What I hate about all DVD TV shows is that in their first couple of seasons the West Wing and Shield were pretty generous with about 6-8 epiosdes a disc. By the end of each series run they are down to like 2-3 episodes a disc. (I especially hate the last disc scam where they throw one epiosde on there with other nonsense I am not interested in )Makes it a pain in the ass if I want to watch a marathon session of anything.

- Freaks and Geeks

The cancellation of this show caused me to stop watching television on a regular basis. Only one season of this excellent show was unfair.

Attention everybody: Schmidty is NOT one of the 20 million people who watched 24 last season.

You can't go wrong with series like the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, OZ, Rescue Me, Deadwood, Rome, The Wire, The Shield and Weeds. I would snag any of these that you have not seen.

Hope this helps.

I don't. I've tried and it just isn't the same as watching them several episodes at a time.

This got me a few times. I always make sure there is atleast 1 episode on the disc (usually it's just a bonus disc with no episodes). and remove the last disc if there are no episodes on it. If there is, I try to time it so that I get the first disc of the next season at the same time (or first one of the next show I'm moving onto).

Add me to that list as well. For some reason that show has slipped through the cracks for me. The good thing about that is that there are plenty of availble seasons to watch once I get around to the show.

I liked Dead like me, and Lucky.

I enjoyed lucky but if I remeber it enjoyed a very short run ( and actually won an emmy after it was canceled.)

I've tried to like it, but it just does nothing for me. It's not like I don't enjoy other "popular" shows, so it's not a case of disliking something just because everyone else does. The drama and such just seems so overblown that I can't get into them.

I'm not saying that it's not a good show, nor am I saying that it's undeserving of it's accolades - I'm just saying that I think it's a piece of cultural garbage.

First season of 24 was one of the coolest in all of TV, but as hot as Elisha Cuthbert is her plotline killed season 2. I watched 3 and was just plain disappointed. Haven't seen anything after.

HBO TV shows: Sopranos was incredible until season 4 when it slowed way down. Six Feet Under lost its flare some time during season 2. Curb Your Enthusiasm has stayed fresh, in my opinion. Deadwood is great through season 1, but as you hear more and more of the dialogue it's just incredibly clear that it's written to sound period, rather than genuine. The Wire is great, but I've only seen one season. I think that's all.

Lady H_B and I have a ton of TV shows on DVD. While living in Europe for a few years, it was the only way to watch serial shows.

Everything I'd recommned has already been mentioned, but:

Rome
Firefly (Sci-Fi show, but it transcends the genre)
Freaks & Geeks (along with Firefly, likely the best single-season show ever)
Deadwood
Sopranos
The Wire
Battlestar Galactica (Just started Netflixing this myself)
The first season of 24 is pretty spectacular
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (a great show that started to lose its way around the 5th season or so)

If you like to see VERY VERY edgy humor, then I suggest seasons 1 and 2 of Wonder Showzen.

Rome - especially with the historical commentary on - small little "pop up video" type stuff that adds a lot of insight.

Sports Night - my favorite all time TV show
