Ok- so I do great in the regular season (the league I am in started playoffs this week)- 11-2, score 200 more points than anyone else in the league; 600 more points than my #8 seed opponent.

What happens? My team tanks the week and his team scores 50 points more than they had any other week.

Even if I would have found a replacement (last minute) for McGee... I'd still lose!

You're going to lose by a lot more than 50. :)

We have seen similar issues in a league I run, which have led to implementing some payouts for regular season success.

Best record - money split if tie
Most points
Division winners - tie-breakers for playoff seeding

If a team pulls down both best record and most points (which also means they win their division) then they already have about 15% of the payout for the league and a first round playoff bye - meaning they only have to win one game to get to the Super Bowl which is where the bulk of the money is won.

Having a stud team implode in the first round of the playoffs is definitely frustrating. But it is even worse when there is no reward for putting together the best team for the first 13 weeks.

Both of my leagues do bye weeks. At least this guarantees the #1 and #2 teams to get at least a 10% cut.

Jones, Holt and Wilkins don't get a chance to score?

they get a chance, but I doubt that 50 pts between them will be the result...

It'd be 50 points among them, since there are more than 2. Still, you've got a chance. . .

Good luck!

Fantasy Football is as much luck as anything else. In my league I will finish the regular season 3rd in points scored but do not make any of the 4 playoff spots. It all comes down to getting the right matchup each week. A good week in my league scores about 170 points. I scored 225 in one week and lost the match. Head to Head requires a lot of luck.

2 years in a row I buy the ESPN fantasy football 3-pack. 6 teams, 6 Championship games, 6 losses. End of my FF career.

I hear ya...I had a decent year until this week (2 of my leagues started playoffs, and unless Steven Jackson goes nuts tonight, I will be out in both)

This is why I'd like to see our league go to just having the top 2 of 4 playoff teams advance. No matchups.

My team wasn't bad (I had the 3rd most points scored in the league despite finishing 8th), and I had to play the #1 team in the 1st round. He got 73 points from Brees and LT alone, if Brees had a normal day I would have won.

Funny that this year we don't say 'If LT had a normal day' because 100 yards and 3 TDs is normal...

This is exactly how we have it structured. Top 6 in, with each division winner getting a bye, then the regular four team playoff. Even if you come in last you 'break even' by getting your money back.

Its a twelve team league with a two dollar buy-in.

4th - $2
3rd - $3
2nd - $6
1st - $13
