View Full Version : Tipping the mailman??
This is something I have never heard of. Is it proper etiquette to tip your mailman? We recieved a holiday card from the mailman, something which has never happened before, at least to me anyway. I asked someone else about this and she said that you are supposed to send him a tip. I'm not doing it, sounds like a scam.

Your mailman is horny.

My understanding is they're not allowed to accept cash, but it is customary to tip your postal worker, particularly if you've had the same one for some time. My mailman's pretty cool, and he's been around for years so I typically give him something - gift card usually.

I never seem to have a mail person for more than a week.

My gift to our mailman was to remove all the ice from our front walk. :D
Seriously, though, our mailmen (OK, mailpeople) rotate pretty often. When I grew up, we had pretty much the same mailwoman all the time, and my Mom would leave her a gift every year.

We have a good one, who helps out my wife and her eBay shipping a lot, so we're getting her a small gift. I think by law they can only accept gifts and only gifts that are < $25.

A modest consideration is appropriate, like a $10-20 gift card or the equivalent.

I just offer my wife, really. It works out OK in Greensburg because we only have one guy who delivers the mail regularly. In New Orleans, we probably had about 15-20 different men and women who did the job, so my wife had a hard time remembering who liked what. I may have mentioned this in another thread here, but that's the reason that we moved.
