Wireless N?

Is anyone using Wireless N? I know it was in the pre-draft standards last time I did some research on it. I talked to some co-workers who thought that Wireless N was not worth it, yet. This Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/resources/technology/broadband_mobility/what_to_know_now_about_wifis_hot_new_standard.mspx) article says that Wireless N should be standard by late 2006. The extra cost is not really a concern. I also do not have an exsisting wireless network, so upgrading is not a bother either. I am planning on getting the XBox360 plug and play wirless kit but I am sure that is compatible with Wireless N.

Basically what I am wondering is the higher cost is worth at this point?

For the 360, it will not work with the Wireless N properly, we had it set up in our trailers for our gaming tourneys and had connectivity issues, the Wireless adapter is a B technology on the 360.

Now as for speed and range, I feel the N is worth it..It is lighting fast on network transfers and such and I can be all over my home and receive a signal whereas when I had the G, my bedroom which is on the 2nd floor (so 2 stories up from the router) I would get a low signal and really poor speed. Now, it flies...

My 360 works just fine with my Wireless N router. Now, I don't get the full speed boost and range boost since my 360 wireless receiver isn't N compatible, but it works just fine. My laptop which has an N card has a huge range boost and a nice speed boost.

Wireless N is all hype and marketing right now. There are still significant changes that could happen with the standard and I believe only one company even guarantees their draft-N stuff will be compatible (via firmware) with the standard when it is finalized. Most performance tests I've seen show the draft-N stuff actually gets worse performance than G. If that isn't bad enough there are also reports that the draft N stuff on the market causes significant interference to B/G networks in range.

One on one it was working fine, it was adding anything more than 3 that we started having some serious issues.

Again, the ones we are using, all state B in the set up screens.

So, GoldenEagle will probably be ok unless he plans on having multiple 360's hooked up in his home :)

Although he won't get the real benefit, at least for his 360, of the N Router until Microsoft or another company comes out with an N Wireless adapter that can be used on the 360.
