John Brantley, the #1 ranked HS QB in the country, and Gatorade National Player of the Year has just announced that he has switched his commitment from Texas to the University of Florida.
This is really bad news for Texas, who is now stuck with two stiffs behind Gelding McCoy.

I thought Jimmy Clausen was the #1 ranked QB ;)

Yeah, it depends on what service you're looking at, but Clausen and Brantley are the top two, no doubt.

Texas still has John Chiles on board, and he is the #2 ranked recruit in Texas, and #16 in the country according to Rivals. I guess Brantley is like Snead, and didn't like the competition he'd have to face for the starting job.
So although it does hurt to lose this QB prospect, the cupboard is hardly bare at the QB position in Austin.

I only put the ;) face because ND fans think he is the next savior.

Yeah, I'm sure Beano Cook will predict him to win four Heismans.

Shit. I really really really hate Florida.
so he'd rather sit behind Tim Tebow than Colt McCoy?

He'd be the heir apparent at Florida after Tebow. He'll spend a redshirt year this season, and then spend a year as Tebow's apprentice. At Texas, we've already got Colt McCoy, plus a stud QB as a redshirt (Sherrod Harris), and John Chiles enrolling for the Spring semester. A lot less competition at Florida than at Texas for playing time down the line.
I hope his decommit works better than the last highly ranked QB recruit to snub the Horns. Who remembers Ryan Perrilloux?

Actually I think he has just as much competition at Florida as he would've had at Texas. They have Tebow, then one of the top JUCO guys and one of the top dual threat guys in Newton. Plenty of competition.
I hear the reason is a girl...

Brantey has strong ties to UF, so it cant be *that* much of a suprise to Texas fans that he has decided to stay home and attend Florida. I cant see how it has anything to do with competition, there just isnt that much of a difference.

he wanted to stay closer to home. it's been the issue for months. thats why ou was never in the picture.
and john chiles and sherrod harris aren't stiffs. get used to those names.

OU was very much in the picture. Stoops is a close friend of Brantley's father, and he had weekly conversations with both of them. However, Stoops couldn't afford to wait any longer with the possibility of not signing a highly rated QB in this class, so he gladly accepted Keith Nichol's change in commitment from Michigan State to OU.

if brantley sr. were the recruit, then maybe ou has a shot. jr was never interested. for months it was texas vs. closer to home.
i know how close stoops and brantley sr were, and i know how far removed jr was from any of that. stoops had sr's ear as a courtesy, but ou was never a major threat for jr's signature.
nichols' commitment was a white flag. stoops knew he had to look, so he did what he always does, carpet bombed offers to every rivals rated qb until someone wrote him back.
he has a perilously low success rate with those guys, btw. enjoy!

Yeah, perilously low. Just one Heisman Trophy winner (White), a Heisman runner up (Heupel), and a Rose Bowl MVP (Hybl).

i wonder why you thought i meant qb's. i meant the 'please come here highly rated anybody!' recruit.
but even if we switch to qbs, the fact that you had to trot out jason white and nate hybl is hilarious to me.
recruiting snobbery, always an entertaining element of college sports. particularly when coming from a program like texas.

i like that disagreeing with my rivals ridiculous take is always interpreted as me being irrational.
if anyone on this forum, other than huckleberry, knew a single thing about football other than what you think you know because of FOF, i wouldn't have to be so condescending.
jason white and nate hybl as successes! i mean come on!

Yep. To not call White a success is really being silly.

It's entirely possible that this is the STUPIDEST post ever made on this board, and that includes all of jbmagic's gambling tips.

Jason White had a hell of a college career.
And as much as IMTG loves to bash Nate Hybl, in his senior season he had a 24/8 TD to INT ratio, lead OU to a conference championship, a Rose Bowl win (where Hybl was named MVP), and he made an NFL roster for three years. Not too bad for a guy who "sucked" in college. He was also 2-0 as a starter against Texas.

Yep...nobody on the board knows anything about football but you...
Its not a you problem, it is an us problem. Congratulations you figured it out, you win the cookie....
I was going to post a counter point about the difference between a good college career vs. a good pro career, you know something to inspire an intellectual debate, but I see you are ill equiped to participate.
Ron (4 years spent assistant coaching in D1 and 1 in the NFL yet knows less about football than you:rolleyes: )
